  • At 12:35 watch Jamie get bit by a 16 inch trout! This is part 4 of a 5-Part series on the easiest and fastest way to get down into Linville Gorge. We hiked down the Plunge Basin Trail from the Linville Falls parking lot. In this video we have made it to the falls and Jamie Griffin is showing us how he fishes for trout and bass in the immediate area of the falls. It's about two thirds of the way through the vid before Jamie catches a fish. Beautiful and dramatic surroundings in this cool video. Jamie uses a cool Frabill collapsible fishing net in this video too.
Note: I used one GoPro Hero3+ powered with a Wasabi Extended Battery to shoot nearly 3 hours of 1080p 30 fps video for this series. I also used a Canon HFG10 with a Wasabi Battery for about 90 minutes of video. I used a Zoom H1 for audio.

Tony, I really enjoyed this series being a NC boy myself. I've only seen Linville from the regular tourist lookouts. When Jamie camped, did he just go primitive or are there any designated spots down there? It was also great that you mic'd Jamie so we could hear him very clearly. Any video of you guys enjoying those fish as a meal?

Hey Steve. It's my understanding that it is primitive camping down there in the gorge. I know Jamie fed his kids with those fish - but I didn't get any video of it. He has four kids, and they garden, fish and gather food from lots of sources. He's a hard working guy and one of the best print graphic artists I've ever known. Many thanks for watching the video and commenting. TLG
