i recommend “before the coffee gets cold” by toshikazu kawaguchi!! i haven’t heard that many people talk about this book but it’s really good! it has such a cozy vibe. it’s about this café in tokyo where customers can travel back in time. in the book you follow four visitors who want to travel back in time to confront the lover who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has begun to fade, see their sister on last time and meet the daughter they never got to know. i really love how the further into the book you get, the more you see the characters relationship with one another. i loved the ending (i cried but it was a good ending). i’d loooove to be able to read this for the first time again

The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a great book to get people out of a reading slump! It's one I think you'll really enjoy Nayna!😊 Character driven, a mystery, queer romances, and historical fiction! Btw I also loved the British humour in 'This is going to hurt'!! Great vid!!

Norwiegan Wood - reminiscent of student life & set in Tokyo (suicide trigger warning)
Normal people - relatable relationships (BBC tv series available)
Conversation with Friends - relatable relationships
Never let me go - dystopian
    Flat share - lighthearted
Ghosts - adult life & comparing progress
    (Everything I know about love)
The midnight Library - non-classic love story (suicide trigger warning but generally an uplifting book)
This is going to hurt - diary of a student doctor & funny
A thousand Splendid Suns - heartbreaking but so emotionally investing (writer of the Kite Runner)
Such a fun age - life in your 20s & themes of racism & pricellage

This comes at a perfect time because my only resolution for this year is to start reading again and not stop. Architecture school and its residual exhaustion I felt during the holidays really took me out of reading and I hate that. I literally have a picture of me reading at the corner of a class in my high school, I was that big of a reader. I had my head inside a book always, shutting myself out from anything happening around me, and I loved that feeling, how all the noise around me would slowly disappear as I got sucked deeper and deeper into the book I was reading, how it felt like the world revolved around that book, the characters and their story only. I want to feel like that again. So thank you so much for motivating me throughout last year for me to make this a resolution this year since I know I will have the time soon enough to be able to do this. Love youu bye

Yay! Two of my favorite 2021 books made it to your list! (Norwegian Wood and Never Let Me Go!) Here are some of my recommendations:
“The Count of Monte Cristo” it’s long but omg my favorite book ever.
“Howl’s moving castle” it’s the book that the ghibli movie was inspired by and it is just so funny and heartwarming
“Anne of Green Gables” just so so cute and lighthearted, also a lot of cottage core vibes
“The ocean at the end of the lane” it’s more of a fairytale-like book with a bit of magic but not full-on fantasy
“A little princess” I haven’t read it yet, but I plan to soon. I’ve read the first few pages and really loved it

I also strongly recommend "In the sea there are crocodiles" by Fabio Geda. It's about a young afghan refugee and it is a true story as well. It was so beautifully written and heart-wrenching as well!

I read Such a Fun Age after you posted about it, it was such a realistic book that I felt frustrated at the end. Thousand Splendid Suns is probably my favorite book of all time.

I just finished Exciting Times by Naorise Dolan and really enjoyed, similar-ish to Sally Rooneys writing style and also one of those books which don’t have a super intense plot but still enjoyable to read!

Same with the comments, for someone getting into the groove of reading, 7 husbands of evelyn hugo is definitely where to start. Reading it feels like an actual autobiography and you have to keep reminding yourself it isnt.
Also! I highly HIGHLY rec picture of dorian gray and shadow of the wind. Both very rich language and gripping plots

I think as well, reading is a skill. The more you read the easier it is to read. I find that when I've not read for a little bit it is harder to get into the swing of it.
