Clapton - I am a fan of EC and have some of his LP's so getting this box set is a big deal for me, I am not a collector just a guy who loves music but on a tight budget so only buy music I like, whilst I do like Bill Evans and have a few LP's $900 for a box set (which looks fantastic by the way) is someway above my limits. But I do enjoy seeing what music is available and then making a decision on what I can spend my cash on, this is why this channel is so great. Thanks Michael.

Received my Bill Evans box set yesterday and did the unboxing after watching your live stream. My initial examination of each album uncovered an issue with "Explorations", where they sent two LP 2's. I have emailed them requesting a replacement. I do not always examine shipment contents immediately upon arrival, but your unboxing inspired me to do it this time, along with the comments from other viewers who also had issues. Regardless, everything else is in order, looks amazing and I look forward to listening to all of these legendary recordings in the ultimate audiophile format.
It's a real status symbol. Crazy when you stop to think of the real mess the world is in right now, folks struggling to feed their kids and heat their homes or just survive floods fire and of course a war in Europe not too far away. Despite all of this us lucky few continue to spend our money on these luxury products to feed our obsession and hobby. Just nuts! But still we carry on... Bet it sounds spectacular, I love Bill Evans playing.
There are many wars going on. Always are. This one is just of greater significance to certain countries. Poverty too - rampant globally. Nothing has changed except the media spotlight.

I got the box because I love Bill Evans and I had not bought any of the OJC’s yet. And it’s music that my wife also loves so light as well have good copy’s of all of this classic music! Like you said it’s meant to listen to.
Hopefully Analogue Productions will re-release these records singly. It's been too long since a good new pressing of "Waltz For Debbie" and "Sunday At The Village Vanguard" have be released, and it's long overdue.
I have my AP Bill Evans boxset from 2010 and have been enjoying it since. I'm glad that it has been made available again to those who missed out on earlier pressings. Unfortunately, the price has nearly doubled since then.
I have been awaiting the occasion to unwrap. Like listening to Dark Side of the Moon, I think this requires some planning. Thanks for the heads up that this was coming back!
Last year I kept delaying ordering it when it was $600. Then it went to $900. I was angry with myself for procrastinating but I ordered it for $900. I received it on September 21st. I’ve opened it and cleaned each one with my Okki Nokki machine. I haven’t listened to them yet. I’ll hopefully be able to listen to some of it this weekend.
To those asking: I've had mine for two days. Played all of them on two systems (some upstairs, some downstairs). Let's just say both systems are strong, balanced, synergistic, carts mounted by Mike Trei, etc etc. And, these sound FANTASTIC. It depends on the specific album with such things, but I have yet to find one of these that my Rossini Apex can beat. Maybe Moonbeams is a close call (which, for reasons I don't get, sounds more amazing than usual on Qobuz). The HDTT download of the Cannonball album is also strong on digital, but I give this LP the edge (the toe-tapping swing and pace of this album is noticeable, and more so on vinyl). The rest? Not even close.
I’m very fortunate that I managed to get this boxset as a gift for significant birthday. I had to contribute given the prize, but it didn’t feel such a sting. It’s really difficult to define ‘value’ with something like this. What I can say is that the package is very well done and the quality is evident. The records themselves sound amazing: vibrant, but very realistic and natural. My set had a few issues: an audible scratch on Everyone Digs, a couple of scuffs on Portrait, and a bad warp on Shelly’s. Acoustic Sounds have agreed to switch them out, no questions asked. But the cost of postage sits with me which, as a UK customer as the pound tanks, is not insignificant. Oh well.
I can totally agreee. I paid a lot for the box-set with shipping costs, fees and taxes (€ 1.300) here in Austria. 5 of 11 double albums have issues. One side of Waltz has deep scratches, for other LPs are warped and nearly unplayable, its an up and down for the needle. That is not a quality pressing in my opinion. Sure, I will get replacements. But the procedure seems ridicolous to me. I have to destroy my copies in advance. In case of the Miles Davis UHQR 33 1/3 the replacement was worser than my destroyed first copy. And naturally I have to pay for shipping costs again. Conclusion: I think I will never buy such an expansive box-set from acousticsounds. In case of replacements the customer service from VMP is much better. PS: I ordered the box set last year for a lower price but the charged me with increased one.
Their boxes a terrific. When I’m traveling, I’ll take my hardshell case and an acoustic sounds box with me. I’ll use the box when I’m shopping and then use my case as a carry on.
Great video, nice boxset! Question for the vinyl community: received the last Eagles one step “One of these nights”. Second LP has two scratches on it. The last three weeks I sent three emails to customer service, googled a phone number that took me to Music direct. They took my information and send it to Mofi. No response! Has anyone else had this problem? How did you get hold of them? When I do I will cancel my pre-orders. With all their problems, now they have poor customer service!

I wonder if Paul Motian likes Lemmy. I did get this box finally as well. My cover sticker was crooked, sadly. They will send a replacement box soon I hope. I have a most of the older AP versions of these individual titles. Which all have matte finish and thinner jackets. Not as sturdy or glossy as these new ones. Much better now. It’s an amazing icon as you said. A true gem and grail in any collection. Thanks for sharing this with us.

King sized. Here in U.K. box sets rarely arrive undamaged. Just arrived is box set from my old neighbour the late great Joe strummer Mescalero yrs Damaged of course But imo a truly wonderful set of the 3 albums and 4 of unreleased. It’s a gem. Check it out. 👍
Well, not a big fan of jazz per se (but slowly getting there), In my experience, I always thought jazz is live music to be experienced live. I have seen a few small jazz sets in bars or lounges and it was pretty enjoyable but on record (whatever the media), it never had the same impact. But again, with age, I guess it helps a little, I'm dipping my toes a little more. I could never afford such box set but I'm glad it exists for the fans. I literally first heard the name Bill Evans when you started talking about the boxset some time ago. I guess I'll put him in my discovery list. Now, Motorhead, on the other hand that's a different story.. not a big big fan but I always appreciated it. Quick question Michael regarding Acoustics Sounds, how is the shipping to Europe? On a different forum, someone in Europe was looking for purchasing the SACD version of 2018 Mix of Animals and it's an Acoustics Sounds exclusive, I told him they should ship worldwide but no idea how expensive it is (plus you probably have to add the EU VAT on top of it). Danke.
I'm only halfway through my box set, but thus far three out of six played albums have had pressing defects, ranging from non-fill to 1 cm long scratches. For the money they charge, I would really expect a higher degree of QC. I will go through the remaining five today, but I really dread having to ask for replacements for what might end up being 5-6 LPs...
Counterpoint: Don't look at it as 22 records. Look at it as 11 2x45rpm records, because that's what it is. $900 for the set comes to $82 per 2x45rpm record. A normal price for a 2x45rpm title on Analogue Productions/QRP is about $60. If the 11 records in the set were priced at $60/each, that would be $660. Because it's $900 instead of $660, you're essentially spending $240 for the book and packaging. I'm willing to spend $60 for a 2x45rpm of a recording I really love. And I do really love some of the 11 records in the box. But I'm not willing to spend $82 per record on all 11 of the records in the box, and I'm not willing to spend $240 on the packaging. I could spend my $900 on something else that would give me more happiness per dollar spent. But I truly happy for the folks who really, really want this box. I occasionally splurge on things that many people would think I'm crazy. If this box is your splurge, I hope you get all the enjoyment in the world from it!
Hello Michael , nice box set .thanks for showing it. The Dinero can be a bit much for a lot of people . I have the Bill Evens Complete Village Vanguard Recordings ,1961 CD box set mastered in analog utilizing 20-bit K2 Super Coding System 2006 . The sound & Packaging are Great ! Love the Songs !
I have that CD set too, it’s great! I also passed on the box set because of the price. I’m sure the box set is absolutely wonderful, but the lower cost options sound pretty awesome too.
Just got mine this weekend, have heard the 1st 2 LPs…I have had the Riverside CD box since it came out in ‘87 & am disappointed that with the LP box they left out Orrin Keepnews extensive session notes..

Same! I bought the Bill Evans box set and came for that but having seen the Motörhead box …I instantly am more excited for that! Im glad he’s mixing it up some!
I love Analogue Productions, but they have now gone down the road of price gouging. This is 11 albums that would fall in their $59 line of 45 RPM LPs, and they are charging close to twice that. I get what the secondary market is, but you don't gouge your customers because of what they are selling for on the secondary market. I feel the same about the recent price hike on the UHQRs. I love the mastering of the UHQRs, and the $100 for 33rpm and $125 for 45 rpm was right on market, but now it looks to me like he is capitalizing on issues with the one-steps. For a guy that always says it's about the music, not the money, he seems to be learning further towards the latter. Don't usually rant, but the prices are nuts.
Exactly how I feel about it as well! The Mofi incident was the best thing that could have happend to Chad ! And it’s not getting any better if we all accept the prices and buy the stuff
You'll love the $994 price tag for the new R2R of .... Jazz at the Pawnshop???? That's right ... one flipping album for $1000. At least this one has 11 albums, any one of which is better than Jazz at ..., and was plated 12+ years ago when the tapes were 12+ years fresher.
That’s looks an amazing set indeed. Out of my price range especially as the British pound is so weak against the dollar. Wasn’t the original set in a red box?
I'm 4 albums in (SATVG, WFD, PIJ, Mann-Hole). So far they have all been quiet (definitely more quiet than my KOB UHQRs). They sound really good and very dynamic; the best I have heard these albums sound and a definite step up from my OJC copies. If I had any quibbles on sound quality, it would be that it has the typical Steve Hoffman bass boost to it and it is a bass boost that is very round and not tight. Other than the excessive bass especially on Shelly's Manne-Hole, sound quality is superlative. Alright so for the downsides: For a $900 boxset, the jacket quality is cheap, I would have preferred something along the quality of what Craft did with the Chet Baker reissues. I would have much preferred this in 33rpm. Kevin Gray should have remastered this using his new signal chain. $900 is only worth it if you are a rabid Bill Evans fan; you appreciate boxset will shoot up in price after it's oop; you consider this a heirloom piece; you are okay taking the risk that these might get released AAA as single albums by AP or someone else in the future. At this price point, it might be worthwhile to look for OG copies especially if you don't necessarily need every one of the Riverside Recordings.
Still waiting for mine to arrive. Won't expect too much for RTI because overall QRP has better QC. It's still a bargain for people who couldn't get the audiophile version of Sunday at Vanguard Village etc., .
How do you guys feel about these super high-gloss covers? My preference goes for the matte covers from way back then. The look and feel of paper beats the more plastic feel of high gloss executed nowadays. High end Japanese re-issue (replicas) do it just right.
I actually think it is quite disappointing not to see gate fold (Tonepoet like) at that price. The records are simply shoveled into the thin glossy sleeves. I would not buy it again :(
Bad experience Hi Michael, I don't want to write here about the sound, it is fantastic. I want to write about the pressing quality. First, I ordered the box-set last year at the lower price, AS charged me in this september with the higher one. Okay. My pleasure was great when I finally could hold the box in hands. But what a disappointment! Five LPs were warped or have clicks and pops. At AS they told me, I had to distroy my copies first before they can make replacements. After weeks and after I paid once more the shipping costs I got the replacements. But three out of five have again issues. The Sunday-Live has 16 clicks and pops in a row! For me the LPs look like sorted out or returned ones, maybe by U.S. customers. It is really a cheek what they have done.

I don't think they will release these as single productions. How would they price them? Currently AP is selling their single 45x2 albums for $60 with nicer gatefold jackets. In this box they are selling for $82 each when you break down the cost of $900/11. I'd be in for $660! I'm guessing that would cause some sore feelings?

Hey Michael, how is the quality compared to other acoustic sound series releases? Vinyl and jacket wise i mean. Because calculated down you pay as an european customer more or less 100$ per record. And then they arent gatefold or double discs, right? Do you think this is a fair price? As a student with not a lot of money but a big love for hifi records and especially the works of bill evans i am not able to buy such a boxset. Why not leave the original covering wrap on and just cut the end off where the LPs slide in and out. Personally I wouldn't know how to protect a box this large any other way.
A little bit painful to watch this as the price is *way* out of my league. Kind of like watching a new 911 roll past... but in both cases, I'm glad they exist.

Im sure the BE boxset is quite amazing but its mental expensive for this Brit... i could buy all the OJC versions (and i have) which sound plenty good enough and buy a really nice cart or phono stage with the leftovers from this AP box! Records should never retail at these kind of prices but some very well off folks will snap these all up in no time and so the cycle continues
Ich schreibe mal auf Deutsch, damit ich am Ende nicht missverstanden werde und ich will auch gar nicht jammern, nur etwas klarstellen. Ich höre so oft auch von wirklichen oder selbsternannten Audiophilen (nichts gegen sie, irgendwie bin ich ja selbst zumindest hifiverrückt) so etwas wie ja ist schon teuer, aber... . Natürlich ist das ein tolles Boxset, dieses Mal aber ein anderes aber. Viele können sich sowas wirklich nicht leisten, da gibt es kein aber. Wenn ich mir mit meinem derzeitigen Alg II ( und sehr viel mehr hatte ich aus welchen Gründen auch nie) mal ein paar CDs oder LPs kaufe, dann muss ich überlegen ob ich jetzt beim Essen noch mehr spare oder bei anderen wichtigen Dingen. 900 € kommt schon meiner teuersten Urlaubsreisen nahe und die letzte habe ich vor knapp 10 Jahren gemacht. Wie gesagt ich will nicht klagen, aber immer mehr Menschen im wohlhabenden Westen zumindest scheinen den Bezug zur Realität verloren zu haben. Ich gönne jedem die tollste Anlage und die grösste Schallplattensammlung und ich habe für meine Verhältnisse extrem viel dafür ausgegeben, bin übrigens auch schon als Teen mit dem Zug nur wegen Saturn nach Köln gefahren, hatte sogar 160 km zurückzulegen, aber solche Boxsets oder teure UHQR Pressungen sind einfach nicht finanzierbar und es geht ja nicht nur ums Hobby. Immer mehr Menschen sind abgehoben von der Realität, leider auch die meisten Politiker und muten den Bürgern, gerade den armen ( nur Wohlhabende können sich z.B. Solarpanel auf dem eigene Hausdach leisten, wer also arm ist zahlt sogar noch mehr für Strom /Durchlauferhitzer statt zentrales Warmwasser). Und da alles teurer wird sollte vielleicht nicht nur für Klimapolitik Sensibilität geschaffen werden, sondern auch für Armut und die ist in vielen anderen Ländern ja noch viel grösser, zumal wer arm ist kann nicht so bewusst leben, da unfinanzierbar. Die Frage ist also bei vielen nicht, will ich mir das leisten, sondern kann ich es überhaupt. Es mag sein dass es niemand liest und ich gebe zu das ist hier vielleicht nicht der richtige Ort, aber ich musste das jetzt einfach mal loswerden, Danke. Ansonsten toller Kanal toller Michael und tolle Musik, weiter so.
Ich habe es gelesen und finde deinen Kommentar wichtig. Es gibt hier UA-camr, die kaufen teure UHQR's, halten sie nach Monaten im Livechat in die Kamera - und die Platte ist nicht ausgepackt. Es gibt sehr viele "Audiophile", die ihre Platten gar nicht hören, sonder sie als Spekulationsobjekt betrachten. Mit der Musik hat das natürlich nichts zu tun, sondern mit Spekulation. Daher die Preisentwicklung der letzten Jahre.

Just saw this for sale in the UK for £2000 this morning, £3600 at lunchtime, £5000 by teatime - I can’t think what is happening, it’s as though our economy is, somehow, completely broken & out of control, fortunately I’m a banker so will buy it at its peak tonight with my new bonus & tax cut so I can shame my neighbours who don’t even own a TechDAS Air Force One! Losers! So ‘Irony’ aside - it’s all we really have left in the Disunited Kingdom - I’ll console myself with never affording this box set with our broken currency & Brexit, by playing my new Kinks ‘Village Green Preservation Society’ box set (£100)…but I’m not sure we can afford a village green any longer…
mine is great but I do not think they are Stouten jackets, they are the flimsy ones. I thought Chad said he didn't use the Stouten Jackets gatefold because they wouldn't fit in the box ( but the picture quality is great). I think the box was worth it- sounds great. I never have to buy these again. Mike, I would love to hear your opinions on how it compares to your other copies. For 12 records it's 80 bucks each - not too much when you consider that. And, I agree with you about the Dynamics groove, i love finding old records in clean condition with the Dynagroove - sleek. I would have preferred the box in 33 instead. Most of the AP that's avail in both 33 and 45 I buy both. I do the same with Mono and Stereo. Although, I only got the Kind of Blue in 33 UHQR
Thank you for saying this about the jackets. I was ready to buy this box because Michael said they were Stoughton jackets. I would expect nothing less at this inflated price. But when I read your comment and a few others saying they are the old flimsy high gloss covers that was enough for me to say no. I am also not a fan of the super high gloss. It seems a bit tacky. I'd rather have thicker card stock and a matte finish. I think ORG does this on their 45rpms. I love what Chad and Analogue Productions does for the most part, but this box should not have been inflated from $600 to $900 in a few years. That's just wrong and I'm voting with my pocket book. A couple of years ago I bought the Impulse 45rpm subscription. That was worth the $1200 for 25 double 45rpm albums. The covers were gatefold and well made. Maybe not Stoughton but nice. I just think the bubble is going to burst on these uber expensive reissues and many people's record collection values will be in the red.

@@kguy2know Ya, I finally picked the set up because Michael did confirm with Chad they are Stoughton, but after receiving it I still don't believe they are. The cardboard is too thin. Maybe a bit better than their other double 45 jackets. Sounds great, but I have three records so far that need replacement due to warps and pressing defect. And I still have four records to review. Quality control is not great, however I understand this a massive undertaking for a 22 record box set. I'm a little disappointed.
I think Bill knew his career would have a very long afterlife. Happy to hear people are enjoying the healing powers of his music.

Last year I kept delaying ordering it when it was $600. Then it went to $900. I was angry with myself for procrastinating but I ordered it for $900. I received it on September 21st. I’ve opened it and cleaned each one with my Okki Nokki machine. I haven’t listened to them yet. I’ll hopefully be able to listen to some of it this weekend.
To those asking: I've had mine for two days. Played all of them on two systems (some upstairs, some downstairs). Let's just say both systems are strong, balanced, synergistic, carts mounted by Mike Trei, etc etc. And, these sound FANTASTIC. It depends on the specific album with such things, but I have yet to find one of these that my Rossini Apex can beat. Maybe Moonbeams is a close call (which, for reasons I don't get, sounds more amazing than usual on Qobuz). The HDTT download of the Cannonball album is also strong on digital, but I give this LP the edge (the toe-tapping swing and pace of this album is noticeable, and more so on vinyl). The rest? Not even close.

I’m very fortunate that I managed to get this boxset as a gift for significant birthday. I had to contribute given the prize, but it didn’t feel such a sting.
It’s really difficult to define ‘value’ with something like this. What I can say is that the package is very well done and the quality is evident. The records themselves sound amazing: vibrant, but very realistic and natural. My set had a few issues: an audible scratch on Everyone Digs, a couple of scuffs on Portrait, and a bad warp on Shelly’s. Acoustic Sounds have agreed to switch them out, no questions asked. But the cost of postage sits with me which, as a UK customer as the pound tanks, is not insignificant. Oh well.
I can totally agreee. I paid a lot for the box-set with shipping costs,
fees and taxes (€ 1.300) here in Austria.
5 of 11 double albums have issues. One side of Waltz has deep scratches, for other LPs are warped and nearly unplayable, its an up and down for the needle. That is not a quality pressing in my opinion.
Sure, I will get replacements. But the procedure seems ridicolous to me. I have to destroy my copies in advance. In case of the Miles Davis UHQR 33 1/3 the replacement was worser than my destroyed first copy. And naturally I have to pay for shipping costs again.
Conclusion: I think I will never buy such an expansive box-set from acousticsounds.
In case of replacements the customer service from VMP is much better.
PS: I ordered the box set last year for a lower price but the charged me with increased one.
I may not be a big enough Bill Evans fan to get this. I would fall asleep and leave the records spinning in the runout all night I think.
Get the box set and an auto/semi-auto turntable! 😀 You'll get great music and the best sleep of your life!
Their boxes a terrific. When I’m traveling, I’ll take my hardshell case and an acoustic sounds box with me. I’ll use the box when I’m shopping and then use my case as a carry on.

Question for the vinyl community: received the last Eagles one step “One of these nights”. Second LP has two scratches on it. The last three weeks I sent three emails to customer service, googled a phone number that took me to Music direct. They took my information and send it to Mofi. No response! Has anyone else had this problem? How did you get hold of them? When I do I will cancel my pre-orders.
With all their problems, now they have poor customer service!

I have a most of the older AP versions of these individual titles. Which all have matte finish and thinner jackets. Not as sturdy or glossy as these new ones. Much better now. It’s an amazing icon as you said. A true gem and grail in any collection. Thanks for sharing this with us.

King sized. Here in U.K. box sets rarely arrive undamaged. Just arrived is box set from my old neighbour the late great Joe strummer Mescalero yrs Damaged of course But imo a truly wonderful set of the 3 albums and 4 of unreleased. It’s a gem. Check it out. 👍

Well, not a big fan of jazz per se (but slowly getting there), In my experience, I always thought jazz is live music to be experienced live. I have seen a few small jazz sets in bars or lounges and it was pretty enjoyable but on record (whatever the media), it never had the same impact. But again, with age, I guess it helps a little, I'm dipping my toes a little more.
I could never afford such box set but I'm glad it exists for the fans. I literally first heard the name Bill Evans when you started talking about the boxset some time ago. I guess I'll put him in my discovery list. Now, Motorhead, on the other hand that's a different story.. not a big big fan but I always appreciated it.
Quick question Michael regarding Acoustics Sounds, how is the shipping to Europe?
On a different forum, someone in Europe was looking for purchasing the SACD version of 2018 Mix of Animals and it's an Acoustics Sounds exclusive, I told him they should ship worldwide but no idea how expensive it is (plus you probably have to add the EU VAT on top of it). Danke.
I'm only halfway through my box set, but thus far three out of six played albums have had pressing defects, ranging from non-fill to 1 cm long scratches. For the money they charge, I would really expect a higher degree of QC. I will go through the remaining five today, but I really dread having to ask for replacements for what might end up being 5-6 LPs...
Counterpoint:
Don't look at it as 22 records. Look at it as 11 2x45rpm records, because that's what it is.
$900 for the set comes to $82 per 2x45rpm record.
A normal price for a 2x45rpm title on Analogue Productions/QRP is about $60. If the 11 records in the set were priced at $60/each, that would be $660.
Because it's $900 instead of $660, you're essentially spending $240 for the book and packaging.
I'm willing to spend $60 for a 2x45rpm of a recording I really love. And I do really love some of the 11 records in the box.
But I'm not willing to spend $82 per record on all 11 of the records in the box, and I'm not willing to spend $240 on the packaging.
I could spend my $900 on something else that would give me more happiness per dollar spent.
But I truly happy for the folks who really, really want this box. I occasionally splurge on things that many people would think I'm crazy. If this box is your splurge, I hope you get all the enjoyment in the world from it!

Hello Michael , nice box set .thanks for showing it. The Dinero can be a bit much for a lot of people . I have the Bill Evens Complete Village Vanguard Recordings ,1961 CD box set mastered in analog utilizing 20-bit K2 Super Coding System 2006 . The sound & Packaging are Great ! Love the Songs !
I have that CD set too, it’s great! I also passed on the box set because of the price. I’m sure the box set is absolutely wonderful, but the lower cost options sound pretty awesome too.

I wish his music excited me more. I love so many jazz greats but feel very little when I hear him play.
I love Analogue Productions, but they have now gone down the road of price gouging. This is 11 albums that would fall in their $59 line of 45 RPM LPs, and they are charging close to twice that. I get what the secondary market is, but you don't gouge your customers because of what they are selling for on the secondary market. I feel the same about the recent price hike on the UHQRs. I love the mastering of the UHQRs, and the $100 for 33rpm and $125 for 45 rpm was right on market, but now it looks to me like he is capitalizing on issues with the one-steps. For a guy that always says it's about the music, not the money, he seems to be learning further towards the latter. Don't usually rant, but the prices are nuts.

I'm 4 albums in (SATVG, WFD, PIJ, Mann-Hole). So far they have all been quiet (definitely more quiet than my KOB UHQRs). They sound really good and very dynamic; the best I have heard these albums sound and a definite step up from my OJC copies. If I had any quibbles on sound quality, it would be that it has the typical Steve Hoffman bass boost to it and it is a bass boost that is very round and not tight. Other than the excessive bass especially on Shelly's Manne-Hole, sound quality is superlative.
Alright so for the downsides: For a $900 boxset, the jacket quality is cheap, I would have preferred something along the quality of what Craft did with the Chet Baker reissues. I would have much preferred this in 33rpm. Kevin Gray should have remastered this using his new signal chain.
$900 is only worth it if you are a rabid Bill Evans fan; you appreciate boxset will shoot up in price after it's oop; you consider this a heirloom piece; you are okay taking the risk that these might get released AAA as single albums by AP or someone else in the future. At this price point, it might be worthwhile to look for OG copies especially if you don't necessarily need every one of the Riverside Recordings.
Still waiting for mine to arrive. Won't expect too much for RTI because overall QRP has better QC. It's still a bargain for people who couldn't get the audiophile version of Sunday at Vanguard Village etc., .

How do you guys feel about these super high-gloss covers? My preference goes for the matte covers from way back then. The look and feel of paper beats the more plastic feel of high gloss executed nowadays. High end Japanese re-issue (replicas) do it just right.
I think they did the gloss as a way of giving perceived quality, without upgrading the actual jackets to better tip on gatefolds
Agreed. The gloss seems overdone. There are some wonderful matte finishes that really help accentuate the photo and print but you almost never see it.
I greatly prefer matte covers. The gloss just looks cheap in comparison. I would prefer even the Tone Poets to dial down the gloss a bit.
Agree! To me Matte is more subtle and says higher quality. But opinions vary!
I actually think it is quite disappointing not to see gate fold (Tonepoet like) at that price. The records are simply shoveled into the thin glossy sleeves. I would not buy it again :(

Hi Michael, I don't want to write here about the sound, it is fantastic. I want to write about the pressing quality. First, I ordered the box-set last year at the lower price, AS charged me in this september with the higher one. Okay. My pleasure was great when I finally could hold the box in hands. But what a disappointment! Five LPs were warped or have clicks and pops. At AS they told me, I had to distroy my copies first before they can make replacements. After weeks and after I paid once more the shipping costs I got the replacements. But three out of five have again issues. The Sunday-Live has 16 clicks and pops in a row! For me the LPs look like sorted out or returned ones, maybe by U.S. customers. It is really a cheek what they have done.

I don't think they will release these as single productions. How would they price them? Currently AP is selling their single 45x2 albums for $60 with nicer gatefold jackets. In this box they are selling for $82 each when you break down the cost of $900/11. I'd be in for $660! I'm guessing that would cause some sore feelings?
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds is back in stock but now $75. I think that's the direction they're going with the 2x45, unfortunately.

Hey Michael, how is the quality compared to other acoustic sound series releases? Vinyl and jacket wise i mean. Because calculated down you pay as an european customer more or less 100$ per record. And then they arent gatefold or double discs, right? Do you think this is a fair price? As a student with not a lot of money but a big love for hifi records and especially the works of bill evans i am not able to buy such a boxset. Why not leave the original covering wrap on and just cut the end off where the LPs slide in and out. Personally I wouldn't know how to protect a box this large any other way.

Im sure the BE boxset is quite amazing but its mental expensive for this Brit... i could buy all the OJC versions (and i have) which sound plenty good enough and buy a really nice cart or phono stage with the leftovers from this AP box! Records should never retail at these kind of prices but some very well off folks will snap these all up in no time and so the cycle continues

Ich schreibe mal auf Deutsch, damit ich am Ende nicht missverstanden werde und ich will auch gar nicht jammern, nur etwas klarstellen. Ich höre so oft auch von wirklichen oder selbsternannten Audiophilen (nichts gegen sie, irgendwie bin ich ja selbst zumindest hifiverrückt) so etwas wie ja ist schon teuer, aber... . Natürlich ist das ein tolles Boxset, dieses Mal aber ein anderes aber. Viele können sich sowas wirklich nicht leisten, da gibt es kein aber. Wenn ich mir mit meinem derzeitigen Alg II ( und sehr viel mehr hatte ich aus welchen Gründen auch nie) mal ein paar CDs oder LPs kaufe, dann muss ich überlegen ob ich jetzt beim Essen noch mehr spare oder bei anderen wichtigen Dingen. 900 € kommt schon meiner teuersten Urlaubsreisen nahe und die letzte habe ich vor knapp 10 Jahren gemacht. Wie gesagt ich will nicht klagen, aber immer mehr Menschen im wohlhabenden Westen zumindest scheinen den Bezug zur Realität verloren zu haben. Ich gönne jedem die tollste Anlage und die grösste Schallplattensammlung und ich habe für meine Verhältnisse extrem viel dafür ausgegeben, bin übrigens auch schon als Teen mit dem Zug nur wegen Saturn nach Köln gefahren, hatte sogar 160 km zurückzulegen, aber solche Boxsets oder teure UHQR Pressungen sind einfach nicht finanzierbar und es geht ja nicht nur ums Hobby. Immer mehr Menschen sind abgehoben von der Realität, leider auch die meisten Politiker und muten den Bürgern, gerade den armen ( nur Wohlhabende können sich z.B. Solarpanel auf dem eigene Hausdach leisten, wer also arm ist zahlt sogar noch mehr für Strom /Durchlauferhitzer statt zentrales Warmwasser). Und da alles teurer wird sollte vielleicht nicht nur für Klimapolitik Sensibilität geschaffen werden, sondern auch für Armut und die ist in vielen anderen Ländern ja noch viel grösser, zumal wer arm ist kann nicht so bewusst leben, da unfinanzierbar. Die Frage ist also bei vielen nicht, will ich mir das leisten, sondern kann ich es überhaupt. Es mag sein dass es niemand liest und ich gebe zu das ist hier vielleicht nicht der richtige Ort, aber ich musste das jetzt einfach mal loswerden, Danke. Ansonsten toller Kanal toller Michael und tolle Musik, weiter so.
Ich habe es gelesen und finde deinen Kommentar wichtig. Es gibt hier UA-camr, die kaufen teure UHQR's, halten sie nach Monaten im Livechat in die Kamera - und die Platte ist nicht ausgepackt. Es gibt sehr viele "Audiophile", die ihre Platten gar nicht hören, sonder sie als Spekulationsobjekt betrachten. Mit der Musik hat das natürlich nichts zu tun, sondern mit Spekulation. Daher die Preisentwicklung der letzten Jahre.

Just saw this for sale in the UK for £2000 this morning, £3600 at lunchtime, £5000 by teatime - I can’t think what is happening, it’s as though our economy is, somehow, completely broken & out of control, fortunately I’m a banker so will buy it at its peak tonight with my new bonus & tax cut so I can shame my neighbours who don’t even own a TechDAS Air Force One! Losers! So ‘Irony’ aside - it’s all we really have left in the Disunited Kingdom - I’ll console myself with never affording this box set with our broken currency & Brexit, by playing my new Kinks ‘Village Green Preservation Society’ box set (£100)…but I’m not sure we can afford a village green any longer…

mine is great but I do not think they are Stouten jackets, they are the flimsy ones. I thought Chad said he didn't use the Stouten Jackets gatefold because they wouldn't fit in the box ( but the picture quality is great). I think the box was worth it- sounds great. I never have to buy these again. Mike, I would love to hear your opinions on how it compares to your other copies. For 12 records it's 80 bucks each - not too much when you consider that. And, I agree with you about the Dynamics groove, i love finding old records in clean condition with the Dynagroove - sleek. I would have preferred the box in 33 instead. Most of the AP that's avail in both 33 and 45 I buy both. I do the same with Mono and Stereo. Although, I only got the Kind of Blue in 33 UHQR
Thank you for saying this about the jackets. I was ready to buy this box because Michael said they were Stoughton jackets. I would expect nothing less at this inflated price. But when I read your comment and a few others saying they are the old flimsy high gloss covers that was enough for me to say no. I am also not a fan of the super high gloss. It seems a bit tacky. I'd rather have thicker card stock and a matte finish. I think ORG does this on their 45rpms. I love what Chad and Analogue Productions does for the most part, but this box should not have been inflated from $600 to $900 in a few years. That's just wrong and I'm voting with my pocket book. A couple of years ago I bought the Impulse 45rpm subscription. That was worth the $1200 for 25 double 45rpm albums. The covers were gatefold and well made. Maybe not Stoughton but nice. I just think the bubble is going to burst on these uber expensive reissues and many people's record collection values will be in the red.

@@kguy2know Ya, I finally picked the set up because Michael did confirm with Chad they are Stoughton, but after receiving it I still don't believe they are. The cardboard is too thin. Maybe a bit better than their other double 45 jackets. Sounds great, but I have three records so far that need replacement due to warps and pressing defect. And I still have four records to review. Quality control is not great, however I understand this a massive undertaking for a 22 record box set. I'm a little disappointed.
