    Contact a structural engineer. That’s what they do, design beams for loads.

    Looks like you made great progress! We did that about 2 years ago, new floors everywhere downstairs, 80% kitchen remodel (kept the cabinet boxes, but new faces, quartz, doors and new drawers everywhere) and new stairs. Well worth the effort and savings doing it myself. When deciding on the cabinets, I would suggest getting drawers in all the lower cabinets that you can. We did that and it makes them much more usable. No crawling back in the cabinet to look for things! I even put a drawer in the bottom of the sink base so you can pull it out and get to the stuff in the back.
    And a big island would be great. Ours is like 48" x 105 and has plenty of space for 4 barstools and lots of prep space. I had 6 extra cabinet doors made and put them on three sides as fixed panels, with drawers and a beverage fridge on the kitchen side. So much you can do in a remodel! Lmk if you want any pics or info.

    I suggest consulting with a structural engineer. If you remove the load bearing wall, you run the risk of the roof collapsing, creating more problems. Plus you have the issue of the sink and it's plumbing.

    I say go with the collumns in front of the kitchen, horizontal beam would be nice, but that’s going to be pricey and the cash could go else where to a master bedroom or to trick out the garage 😅

    I had to rip out a tiled floor once, using only a hammer/chisel and a crowbar. Took a lot longer but we were too cheap to buy the power tools.
    Looking good so far and the front really opens it up and makes the house look more modern.

    Incorporate the kitchen island unit with the load wall bearing .

    Take the beam from the outside wall to the office wall from up in the Raptors

    leave the supports there and just build some floating open shelves above the island that span between the supports.

    I'm not going to lie,I love that arch,sadly it's placement is in a terrible spot and makes it look closed in,had it been placed between two large rooms it would have been a great center piece and focal point coming into the house.
    It does look much better without it though, opened the room up immensely.
    Keep in mind,when working with load bearing walls/supports you need to check with local building regulations, many if not all require a report from a structural engineer before they allow you make any changes.

      @@RebuilderGuy Lucky you, code enforcement and building regs are getting out of hand,I planned on building a 12'x16' barn shed, it was a kit,everything was pre-cut,I was told for it's size I didn't need a permit, when I went to pick it up I was told someone had ordered the same shed with a 4 foot extension but decided against the extension due to space issues, anyway, I was offered the 4 foot extension for next to nothing and jumped on it, a few months after I built it code enforcement gave me a fine because anything over 16 foot in length needed a permit, cost me around $350 which was a lot of money back then.

    How do you like your EcoDiesel? I bought my new in 2017 and have 75,000 km (46,600 miles) on it and the engine just blew with a bottom and catastrophic failure. Make sure you change the oil often. If you're going to check the forums there are a lot of guys with blown EcoDiesel engines. According to the manufacturer the oil change supposed to be done every 10,000 miles. I talked to a diesel mechanic he suggested to change it every 6,000 miles. Use the shell rotella t6 5w 40 oil.

    • @RebuilderGuy

    • @gerhardpet1
      @gerhardpet1 4 роки тому

      You should use 5w 40 for diesel engines. These trucks had a recall early on and from on in they changed the oil requirements to 5w 40. 15w the viscosity is too high when the engine is hot. The reason is that many engines were failing. Mine is a perfect example even when using the correct oil
