I feel similarly about the Disney Parks that some folks feel about their loved ones dying. I don’t want my last memories with them to be when they’re at their worst. I want to keep remembering them at their best.
Part of what makes the mid-century modern aesthetic work (and look good) is the craftsmanship and quality of materials used, none of which I see in this refurb….
I completely agree with the theming at the resorts - that was the appeal of staying at All-Star Movies vs All-Stars Music or Sports - the rooms were specific as to the interiors. And now with the prices even for the value resorts I’d want to get that extra Disney touch.
I agree about the pop century resort, that whole food area looks too sterile and to modern looking, it doesn’t look or feel Disney I mean yeah they painted a silhouette of Mickey, but the rest of it is just again very sterile very non-Disney
The fact that the All Stars have chairs with tennis balls, film reels and records in them is the laziest form of hotel theming I’ve ever seen. Imagine someone’s first trip to Disney World and them not knowing two other resort’s exist (because you wouldn’t have to know about the other two to stay at one). It has to make no sense to them. Pop could be better and it should be better given now it’s one of the most popular hotels for its skyliner access. Disney World hasn’t had really impressive new hotel theming since Art of Animation.
If I didn't see Mickey, I would have thought the new Everything Pop dining area was actually Cabana Bay's food court designs. (Universal Orlando) Does Disney not know how to do any original things anymore?
Disney's stock is tanking. Of course they're offering discounts. Mis-spending has run them into debt, and you can only raise rates ( and lower CM treatment ) so much before that bubble pops. The one thing they don't do? Learn from the mistakes and stop. Nope. Offer short-term discounts to boost Q3 if possible.
I saw the Angel/Devil Kronk while I was there and nearly bought it!! Love that they're leaning into ENG a bit more. With this, the Yzma shirt, and the krispy treat.
Not surprised by offers. I have a trip booked over Christmas and there is plenty of availability. I just switched resorts and most had various room types still available.
This is the same typical offer they used to give people regularly back when the parks weren’t slammed with guests. You’ll know they’re desperate if they start lowering ticket prices. Remember, there was once a time when they let you enter free on your birth day.
I just got a quote on a regular room at the poly in April. 685 a night plus tax doesn't sound like a deal at all. I was able to book a room at Grand Californian for just over 500 a night for a stay two weeks ago. I know the seasons are different but personally i put GC in a higher level than the poly. I know it's been a while but in September of 18 , I stayed in regular room at the poly for a little over 300 a night with tax. It's sad how much wdw is screwing guests over.
I think we need to wait and see what the rest of the food court looks like before writing it off as only being 60s themed. Besides the one mural, it doesn't read only 60s to me
I like the brighter, bolder colors for Everything Pop in concept, but the execution is poor. It still manages to hang on to a little more personality than some other recent remodels, but it just looks so cheap now. I almost always stay at Pop Century, so I can't say I'm thrilled about this remodel.
It's incredibly lame that all of the value resorts, or nearly all, have identical rooms. I guess the Disney difference isn't worth trying for at the entry level anymore lol.
I'm more bummed about the lack of Fun/details in the rooms themselves than in the food court. It's disappointing that these remodels have been going on for this long, with all the negative feedback.
Shoulder plushes reminds me of the failed “Tagalongs.” They weren’t Girl Scout cookies. Instead, they were pvc figurines that attached to your shoulder the exact same way, only they used hard plastic discs for magnets. I got a Devil and Angel Donald Duck pair from the local outlet less than a decade ago.
It's weird how Disney latches onto certain "themes" and copy/pastes them nowadays. They think they figured out how to do mid-century modern with incredicoaster lol, so now they're throwing it around Downtown Disney, the Disneyland Hotel, the Contempo, and Pop Century lol. Same with art nouveau style they used on their cruise ships, then Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, then Fantasy Springs Hotel. I don't think it's the same as in the past where they'd re-do a theme like "Victorian", because that was much more distinctive and indicative of the brand, whereas now the motive seems to be "ease." Mid-century modern will never feel "Disney" to me...
That is a little bitty cupcake for $6.29 - their cupcakes used to be big. I miss the old Disney - I really miss Fountain View and the Writer's Shop - they had the best blueberry muffins and they were huge!!
@@Louismoxley Oh YES! That was my go to after the other two closed - I am so glad I went during the "good" years - when resorts were themed and they had fabulous blueberry muffins! I really miss the Swell Coffee!
@@jimbo0715 Me too! Miss the resort theming too still look at old French Quarter pics of food court before they made it sterile..Boardwalk Carousel coffee..wow..they could have put so much into that..a carousel for one! We have a carousel cafe in my town that has a carousel and is way more themed than Disneys gray box coffee shop!!! Just so cheap, lazy and sad!All the old stuff has so much detail you can tell they went all out back then!
I don’t know how many people have seen it, but there was a hidden Mickey on the floor of the serving area. I wish I’d thought to take a picture of it on my last visit.
The alien cup doesn’t include a drink. They add that on to the cost. It’s $13.69 for the sipper and an additional charge for the drink ($4.99 for a soft drink or $3.75 for a water). Still, cheaper than Disneylands tho
I agree with you. Loved the old Pop Century theming. Seeing what they have now is not appropriate. I am a baby boomer. Theming is whatkept me coming back. Disney, do better!
Pick and choose your battles. A new streamlined floor that can be replaced in ten years with something more creative? Who cares. Ripping out Rivers of America? Sacrilege!
@@WDWNT "Giant mass of land?" Oh, you mean the masterpiece landscape that took decades to mature and lends atmosphere to not one but three lands AND helps to cool the park? That mass of land? Tom, this is a "Horizons v 2.0" in the making but ten times as bad. Disney should work with what they have, but once again they are taking the easy way out. “Now we’re just ordering chairs out of a catalog, which I hate.” ….literally followed by an ad for Ashley’s Furniture! Not lying!

I like the tables - and NOTHING MATCHES THEM.
It is so sterile.... But contemporary new rooms still win the max sterilization prize. What is going on in resorts right now :(
gotta agree, I liked when the areas were different. and the refillable mugs were resort specific and merch was. at least some is coming back at WL
I completely agree with the theming at the resorts - that was the appeal of staying at All-Star Movies vs All-Stars Music or Sports - the rooms were specific as to the interiors. And now with the prices even for the value resorts I’d want to get that extra Disney touch.
I'm not a fan of how these value hotels don't have 2 queen beds and instead have one that pulls down from the table.
RIP Ken Page (a.k.a the Oogie Boogie Man) may your voice and legacy carry on for generations to come
At least we will get to hear him one more time in the upcoming DLC for Disney Speedstorm

The Polynesian DVC was nice, as was the original GF addition and cabins at Wilderness Lodge

you are rolling the dice with Chipotle
Ironic you brought up cabana bay, because I was literally thinking, This looks like cabana bay off brand 😂😂😂
How do you "date" Pop Century - it is literally about different decades!! looks like a quick trip now.
I don't understand Disney's thinking of, "I know! Let's take out ALL THE COLOR!!"

I love Pop’s renovation. 😂
We will never get quality work again..tiles, detail etc..they won’t spend the money
Epcot might be the worst park at WDW right now. Future world was a complete DISASTER when I went in august.

If the simple shaped tile allows it to stay more clean, then I’m here for it! Cause the black dirty grout between the old tile was 🤢

I can’t get the shop page to load for Carousel of Products
Go to WDWNT.Shop
Maybe Disney is starting to understand supply versus demand? 🤔🤔
I heard Tom will have his head odd you don’t get you stuffed dinosaur by xmas
My comment got a shoutout let’s go 😂
Everything Pop looks so lame now. What a sad downgrade.
You could just buy the shoulder plushes if you want them. You don't have to wear them
Seems like a waste of money lol

Clean and nice is fine but I can get that anywhere.. I pay more for Disney style...they have to stop with this generic look in all the hotels

Beach Club and Boardwalk have become Marriott-ized and sooooo bland & boring too.
