ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT:
The beer opening at the end was for the camera with a nice backdrop. Stu didn’t get his beer until he got home. 😁
#DrinkResponsibly
Thank you for the clarification, Officer Wilson. 😉🍻

“ I’m sure he didn’t drink any beer until he got home “ 🤪😜😜😜. I love it when 👮♀️ are okaying driving whilst drinking a few beverages lmao
The synchronization of the shearers probably wasn’t planned but very cool.
Another good bit of entertainment. And useful too. Seems I bought a farm in black bear country. One has set up home behind the pasture. Makes the ewes a bit nervous. So I’ve been sitting guard duty and watching Scottish sheep videos. Something about the accent scares the bears away for a couple of days. Keep up the good work.
My friend has llamas with the sheep- they are very defensive against predators
Try playing some music by the band Nickelback - I'm Canadian and that stuff is sure to scare away and predator, enough to make your ears bleed.
Really enjoy these slower paced shearing videos as you're able to watch the shearing technique & how you're constantly adjusting your stance to make it easier to shear the sheep's body. Good video Cammy & Team. 👍🐑
I think this is my favorite video to watch for sheering. That synchronization was mesmerizing. Channel for Mairead! Yes!
Thanks, was lucky to catch the in sync shearing 👍
What a cast of characters on this post. Life is like this, full of good people just doing what they do, true reality tv.
Keeping you and Lizzy in my prayers as your delivery date approaches.
On a boat, heading to an island, I thought it couldn't get better! Then watching you and the team working with the lovely sheep,in that gorgeous setting! Thanks so much. It's always good for my spirit to watch your Vlogs.😊😊
You do a great job with the drone! Great that you took us along, thank you for sharing your day.
Lucky you go there and back with the state oh the ferries and amount of break downs
Loving the synchronicity in the sheering.
I saw that and thought, that's so amazing!
I love the level test you did at the end there...very effective 👍🏾😉🤣
I miss Scotland so much. Way up on top of the places to visit once the pandemic calmes down.
Nice one Cammy , loving Mia,s party trick !
VERY unique way to uncapped a couple of beers! Loved this vlog!
Nice bit of synchronised shearing in the middle there🤣🤣
Beautiful countryside, love how you are showing us the incredible art of shearing. 👏👏💕
Thanks Kathleen, glad you are enjoying the content.
Always love that landscape. The song was beautiful and very symbolic at this time. And oh my gosh that bottle opening was amazing. Good for her!
Thanks Dana, glad you enjoyed the vlog.
Beautiful countryside and wonderful music.
Love your videos Cammy. The countryside is just lovely.
hope all the family is doing great Lizzy, baby and you
We're all good thanks, Lizzy still cooking the baby!
Watching you get there was amazing, your country is so beautiful!
I think often watching you that it must be such back breaking work, regardless, you always have a smile. You guys are great!
It is, many an old shearer picked up in Australia who had busted backs, knees, shoulders and hands on top of whatever the reason for the call out. Most didn't regret the work though and many were well off financially.
@@classicambo9781 that's wonderful! It's always nice to see someone enjoying their work 🥰
Aye good to see you on a right Island! And at the right end for the most part!
Got your crop on top back in this show. For me it is more shining than shearing that I need.
I love Arran…Scotland in miniature!
Thanks for your videos. They always cheer me up and I really needed it tonight. I loved the bit when the two of you were shearing in sync. The scenery is wonderful also.
Aww glad you were cheered up by a vlog, lucky to catch the in sync shearing, wouldn't happen very often.
You going to start a new challenge with the beer opening.
Love your videos Cammy.
Well done! Looks like you were having a riot! Beautiful country. My goal is to make it to the UK one day. Scotland is at the top of my list.
It's cool. There were a few times you looked like synchronized. 👍 😁😀
Grate vid cammy lovely looking blackies looking forward to a vlog from a certain other island!
Whoa, love that trick, 😎
Awesome video. The scenery is amazing. I would like to visit & see it in person.
Love your videos Cammy. Makes me want to move. 💕
Great video really enjoyed it, music brilliant, Arran is a beautiful island been over a couple of times hope to go again one day. You are correct in saying that the blackies are by far the best hill sheep especially for Scotland. How is Lizzie, you will need to get hearer home that wee baby will be arriving very soon.
Hope Lizzy is doing well.
Aye, baby still cooking and Lizzy is happy to be feeling well and working.
Great video cammy keep up the hard work and can't wait for the next one
Beautiful landscape!
There was a time there when you both looked like you were doing Synchronized Shearing! LOL
I recently started watching sandi Brock and fell in love with sheep. So I looked for more like type videos and found your channel. It is so beautiful to watch. Those lambs are so sweet. It would be hard for me not to have a favorite or two. Thank you for sharing all these experiences. ❤️❤️
Sandi has a great channel and I find it very interesting to see the different styles of farming around the world. Glad you enjoy the channel.
@@TheSheepGame yes very interesting. And there are so many types of sheep. I love animals and watching these videos brings joy to my daily life. ❤️❤️
@@TheSheepGame I went the other way, from here over to Sandi's. It's great to see the different ways used around the world. And you get to see wee lambs everywhere. 🐑🐑🐏🐏
Grapes rolling down the trailer….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lovely video Cammy, my 2 fav accents in the world Scotish n Kiwi. Looking forward to moving to NZ once its save to do so. Have a small flock of Black faced Suffolks in the care of my kiwi fiancee
Love your channel, old sheep farmer here from the wet West Coast of the USA. Grew fat lambs for the meat market and wool back in the 1950s and 60s when wool was still worth something. Had Chevoits, Black Face Suffocks our best meat sheep, Merinos, Columbias, Corredails, Romneys. We did lots of crossbreeding for vigor and good traits.
Still love my wool clothing in the winter time, warm even when wet.
Old Swedish Viking also, we probably share some genes way back when we invaded and hauled off your best wenches, mead and your best silver.
How did you Scots get into the United Kingdom without learning to speak the Queen's Proper English?
Nice drone footage! Beautiful countryside! Do you usually have a big tarp under the trailer? Sure makes cleanup easier!
Thanks Tam. That’s up to the farmer really. We don’t provide one 👍
I knew a Cameron MacMaster years ago but in Canada, but he was from a little island tho. Big guy with big dark curly hair. He was as crazy as a bag of hammers.
Thanks for another awesome video,no kick down on the door and a out of level trailer would have made me a little grumpy till the check and the beer showed up.good u keep a smile on 🍻
Haha, don't mind putting up with those little things occasionally, especially if it's not too many sheep.
Loved your video as always! My back hurts watching you bent over the whole time!
😁 it’s funny i only really get a sore back on sticky / slow shearing sheep. These are a breeze 😁
Another great video Cammy the craic is always good on your team keep them coming 👍
Thanks Gary, work with great people over the summer and plenty of banter to be had, next minute we're at the end of the summer!
Enjoyed
Very enjoyable video. Some drone footage would have been cool.
Keep up the good work!
Incredible beer opening technique!
She nailed it first time for This Farming Life. I can see it making the intro each week 😁
I like your hair. Cammy you would fit in with my family. We just get a big tooth comb and some pink oil moisturizing lotion. Comb your hair down to the roots and boom you got moist popping curls.
Aww. I like your hair! It suits your sheep lifestyle
It does blend in quite well with some of the sheep! 😂
excellent video Cammy👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Keith
Cool trick with the bottle tops
Aye she's a talented lass, can turn her hand to anything👌
She’s a bloody Waimo!!!! Don’t drink the water😂😆😆
I couldnt help but listen to the words of the song you chose. It seems maybe you are a bit homesick? Maybe?
😁 i thought it fitted well with me going to Arran having not been for a while 😁
Hi cammie could you talk abit about ryelands pros and cons please
A lass from Waimate! I spent a good few years in the Hakataramea Valley, and Dunedin. There's a reason the Scottish settled in that part of New Zealand, its very similar to Scotland
Yeah I hear Dunedin is like little Edinburgh!
Good seeing u Cam thanks for sharing enjoy watching . Has baby arrived yet ? Best to Lizzy. i
Not yet Tanya. Any day now 😁. Lizzy is still working with me every day😅
He must have the deepest voice I've ever heard 😂
Another great video. Love the shearing and the touring. Your music is much better than The Hoof GP in my opinion. Your cadence is still slow in parts but improved over the last video. Are your nephews off a sister or a brother?
Brilliant! Do you ever have any issues with the black face’s horns?
😊🐑💙🍑
It looked at one point in the video that he very nearly had an uncomfortable issue with one of their horns. 😂
Not really Tammy we are so used to them although one did jump out and hit me in the head and I needed a few stitches a couple years back . =D
LOVE IT......eh.....d.
Lister make a cut of switch Motor as-well😂 #lister4life
😁 but they still sell ones like these without it 😁😁
Are lister nexus a slower machine that hieniger
@@anthonypaul683 nope just as fast as Heiniger
I ❤️ your crazy, bushy hair.
Crazy it is, but it has grown on me! 😉😂
always surprised how thin the sheep's legs are! 😂
Haha, no muscle in them I guess.
What absolutely beautiful scenery you're working in, just lovely.
Was Stu using a sling to give him back support, or was it a safety measure because of the tilt of the trailer? I've got a bad back, and I think having something like that to give support would help one's back quite a bit, no?
A lot of shearers use them, back support.
@@JudyHart1 Thanks, Judy, I had no idea those were a thing. Hopefully they help! Now, how do I get one to use while cleaning my bathroom? LoL! 😂
at 13:20 I wonder what was going through the ewes mind.......
Have you ever sheared an alpaca? Or even a Llama? And would ever want to shear one of those?
Are those sheep harder to shear? Does these sheeps wool get used? Looks like your having fun its so cool
He said in another video that wool prices are bad and there’s no market for it. They shear the sheep to keep some sort of fly from laying eggs in their wool. The maggots eat the sheep’s flesh. Not your regular house fly whose maggots only eat dead flesh.
@@100nanay Yes, plus the sheep must be sheared regularly (once or twice a year depending on the breed) to prevent so much wool building up that the animal can't function. It gets very very heavy. See videos of sheep that hadn't been sheared in 4-6 years (usually escapees into the hills).
I consider gumboots survival gear.🦌💌❤️🐑👏🙏👍
In Alaska they're called Alaskan Sneakers 😎
Amazing, I imagine there is a massive amount of names for said boots around the world!
I'm surprised now one has put you across the board and trimmed your mop
Sailing the sea to shear sheep.
A great life eh, so many places to shear, amazing that it can take you around the world!
Is scotland your favourite in uk, lol, how would she know she's not seen it all yet.
When a Scotsman asks you where you’re favourite place in the Uk is, there is only one correct answer 😂😂
So I notice most all of them were dirty underneath…are they supposed to be bathed every so often? Is there a specific soap needed to clean them? Do you have a video showing Llama’s being washed?
Is that comment for this video? I have a video bathing Valais Blacknose?
@@TheSheepGame oh … oops I was watching a llama shearing video… I have no clue how my comment ended on here…but I am most definitely interested in watching that as well, so thank you!! I will look for that and I am so sorry I got the videos mixed up! 😬 lol
Question and please don’t laugh. Is the wool itchy as it comes off the sheep? I had a real wool sweater years ago and I had to wear a white button down shirt underneath it because it was so itchy. I googled this and read an article about different types of wool being softer. My sweater must not have been Marino! But if wool is itchy coming right off the sheep, how do you deal with it?
As someone who has processed wool by hand, from shearing to weaving, I can answer confidently - no, the wool does not feel itchy straight off the sheep. Its very greasy though, and depending on the breed some wool will feel coarser than others. Often the wool doesn't feel scratchy till after spinning.
I like YOU.... HA HA!!!!
Did you manage to sneak any blackface ewes back onto the ferry?
We didn’t get a deal done. 😁 they are going to a sale in 2 weeks i’ll try get them then.
In my pipe band, the pipers would joke you could tell the stage was level because the drool came out both sides of the drummers' mouths. 😑
Dude if u get the chance ask her which house she was sorted into
She’s clearly a Slytherin 😁
Too bad he didn't sell you some sheep and save himself the shipping costs and auction fees. Lovely drone footage and music.
I might get them at the mart yet👍
@@TheSheepGame Hope you film your success at the auction.
A welcome distraction from watching Denmark Vs Scotland......,😭😭😭😭
hey! i luv your hair! I just wish I could put my fingers in your wool!🤓😋
