    the african drumming, he talks about the relation between heart beats and music and relates it to sadness and happiness. This is MILFORD who speaks about all these things.

    Doug Harris is the cinematographer, director, and narrator of this film and owns the copywrite. Why is he not mentiioned?

    @freeavantgardevideos Ayler is presented as a main force, as Coltrane and yes it is a hommage to Ayler and there is a strong spiritual aspect, lots of times they talk about spirituality. But the main musician who appears 90 % of the time ( if not more ) is Milford, showned practicing some phrases in a forest, playing a long and strong duet with David Murray, showing his abilities on an african martial art, acupunture, talking about music improvisation and the importance of

    @wadedriver Oh yes this IS a documentary about Milford Graves. I have the entire version and watched it many times. Albert Ayler is focused in the beginning and in some other parts but the main focus IS Milford Graves. Don´t talk about something you don´t know and didn´t watch.

    @wadedriver I understand. Well, on UA-cam I think that something around one third was splited in 3 or 4 small clips ( the first time I uploaded it was around 2005 but that profile was removed because of these ' rights over image ' problems ... and at that time the limit for each video clip was 10 mins. I respect that you felt frustrated but I consider this a great film, Murray and Graves duet is killer, unfortunatelly the process of making a clip reduced the audio quality and ...

    i usually love the videos you post and i appreciate that you do it. don't be hurt or angry, i just don't get this one. and by the way, i've been playing free jazz for 25 years so don't tell me i know nothing about it

    i partially apologize FINALLY in pt. 3 there are clips of MILFORD playing but i maintain that the majority of the first 2 parts of the film is DAVID MURRAY talking.

    ... what is worse, a problem of syncronicity between image and sound appeared ( in my version audio and image are perfect ). I do not know why it happens but sometimes after a video is uploaded it presents this sync problems, few times it happens. Thx.

    This is an excerpt from the German channel ZDF's broadcast of Speaking in Tongues, a dcoumentary by film maker Doug Harris and should be labeled appropriately out of respect to the director who made this possible.

      The watermark does say ARTE, which is the joint cultural channel of German and French state television. Glad that this film got the exposure.

    @wadedriver I never said that you know nothing about free jazz or about anything related to music. How could I say that if I don´t even know you ? I can make coments only about what you said, so I said you can´t make an statement about a video that you didn´t watch in its entire version. And this has nothing to do about if I can or can´t handle criticism. Ok, I got tired of arguing on Internet. This Milford Graves film is around 1 hr and 40 mins long. Don´t judge the film by the excerpts here.

    well, MILFORD GRAVES is one of my favorite drummers so, of course, i will try to watch the film in it's entirety. as far as my annoyance with the "spiritual" aspects of AYLER & COLTRANE, i think i was just in a weird state of mind after having a long, drawn out, theological debate with one of my pals...i just wasn't in the mood for it and i let it get in the way of my enjoyment of the film. plus, i'm a very secular individual. i meant no harm, i just get carried away.

  • @wadedriver
    @wadedriver 12 років тому

    well, i watched part's one through 3 and MILFORD is shown playing fairly inaudiblly one or 2 times in the background...first of all, don't ask for comments if you can't handle criticism. if there is more, i will watch it but all the AYLER/ COLTRANE worship is boring. i'm sorry if you don't like what i have to say but don't be an argumentative baby about it.
