  • In this video I spent a week using my Nikon Z9 and Nikon Z6ii to photograph the birds and forest in a local preserve. I really advocate for visiting local areas to do wildlife and nature photography because you get to become familiar with the habitats and the animal behaviors in these areas allowing you to get some great photos and opportunities. I was able to get some great photos by setting up and sitting along a cold water brook to photograph eastern Phoebes and Veery among other birds. I also used my Nikon Z6ii and FREEWELL ND filters to capture some long exposures of the brooks and the various wildflowers that were blooming at the time. I also share some of my photography tips on how I got the shots in this video.

Todd, I enjoyed your video very much, especially the Louisiana water thrush. I've only seen a few of them bathing in a small spring fed pool one time. I didn't have a camera with me that day and they never came back. But, I did get a decent picture of a Northern water thrush at Cross Creeks NWR. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and hope your audience continues to grow. Your quality is excellent. BTW, what is your frame rate in your slo mo BIF shots in this video? BTW, don't publicize the name of the area you photographed today. I used to have a place like that. Then it got turned into a park and loved to death.

That sounds like a great experience! We only get the northern waterthrushes passing through on migration here but they are great to see as well! For the slo mo I use 120 frames per second and the. Slow it down to 25% usually when editing to get the slo motion look.
Yes I totally understand that. People don’t have much respect for preserves these days and I try to keep the places I go to hidden which is unfortunate but necessary for the wildlife. Thanks for watching!
