Not a Mennonite, but a southern Baptist here! I had a Bachelorette party. It was just me and my bridesmaids, and we got together and ate food and just hung out. It was so special! I so agree with you all. You do not need alcohol to have fun!
Southern Baptist here, too! ❤
Non denominational 🙋🏼♀️ but agreed I got married at 18…all my bridesmaids were 20
And younger so we wouldn’t have even been able to drink anyways 🤣 got nails done, Red Robin and then that was pretty much it I was so stressed thinking of everything I had to do though!
My husband and I shared our testimonies during our ceremony. Such a good way to share the gospel to a crowd of friends and family who weren’t all believers. So many friends have copied us!
Great idea!
My daughter had an outdoor wedding. She realized with less than 5 minutes before the ceremony started she had forgotten her bouquet. While all the guests were seated outside waiting for the ceremony to start I was running around the barn snatching flowers from the table centerpieces and made her a new one.
I'm not Mennonite but I love to hear about all of your traditions and "rules". I feel like by honoring the traditions, you're honoring God and family. I would love to be a member of such a close knit community. I can tell that you support each other and truly care about the well-being and happiness of each other. Thanks for this video. Loved it!
I'm a Canadian Mennonite and I wore black to my wedding. Very strong rule! I think my history comes from Russia... don't know much and no one's talks about it. So many different types of Mennonites. Love listening to both of your stories. Can't wait for the next episode💕
Yes! I’m Canadian mennonite too and the black dresses did originate from Russia! The meaning behind it is actually super interesting, mennonites weren’t allowed to gather together while in Russia without being threatened with persecution, howeverrr they found a loophole, they were allowed to have funerals together and so the bride would dress in black and they’d make it seem like they were having a funeral while they secretly wed each other 😊
Very interesting. Also a Canadian Mennonite. But my dads grandpa came from Russia. So it does make sense 🤔
I also had a black wedding Dress but later changed into a white one.
@Tina Penner I have been researching the theory of the black wedding dress and found nothing, wondering if I could get your info on it? I'm looking for more information on it.
@@AW-vo5lj I’d love to help but that’s abt all I know abt it like u said it’s pretty hard to get some research on it, if i find out anything else I’ll let you know though :)
I’m Roman Catholic and while my religion does not prevent me from consuming alcohol, I don’t like it. My bachelorette party was afternoon tea with my bridesmaids and my mom! It was perfect for me!
I remember being so excited to get married and celebrate with our families. I woke up super early and was ready long before I needed to be. It was pretty much the best day of my life! That was back in September 2009 😊
I totally love Jayna! She just seems so practical and I love when you bring her on with you! One thing that I'll always remember about our wedding day is the pure joy and delight I felt in my heart that day! It really was one of the best days of my life! I'd honestly love to relive it if I could!
I got married in October and I felt like a princess the whole day 😄 such a beautiful time with family and friends
Yes for the proposal stories!!
Great as always! Thanks for a little fun break during my day watching and listening to y’all chat. Brought back memories of my own wedding.
It would be fun to see wedding pictures, dresses, etc on here too. There are a lot of people that don't have Instagram. Loved this content! ❤️
Happy memories! I’ve been married 42 years, and the only bad thing was our photographer disappeared two days before our wedding! We just have random photos from friends, but still remember the day with gladness and joy!
My wedding is in 10 weeks!! It feels like it won't ever get here!!! This weekend is my bachelorette trip and I'm so excited!!
I just got married in November and it truly was what everyone says it is - the most incredible day and I hope the memories never fade. After our wedding on our way to our hotel, I wrote a little note in my phone to reflect on the day and how I felt and I'm so glad I did that. It will be so fun to read it in a few years from now.
It was so fun to listen you your wedding day stories! Love these Honey I'm Homemaker stories.
I loved this!!!! And definitely appreciate the minimal mindset of Mennonite weddings, I wish I had been raised in that culture.
I so enjoyed your video! So fun hearing all the details and the differences💞
Love how natural Jayna is. Xx
So interesting learning about different traditions of people!!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
"Love is strong, Love is fluffy" So funny!!!😁
We've been engaged for 5 years and are in no rush. It's good though because I've been learning new things and new ideas for our wedding, and I appreciate this episode so much for sharing your knowledge. Thank you both!
Thanks both of you. That was super interesting to hear about how Mennonites go about weddings etc.🙂
My husband and I kept it small and modest. I even did my own makeup and nails and borrowed the gown. We splurged on the photos and video (outdoor wedding) and haven't looked at them in years apart from the photo on the mantle. It's been 35 years now and I'm so glad we placed the emphasis on the marriage instead of the wedding.
I have seen a few Mennonite weddings on UA-cam. The music is absolutely beautiful.
I remember an overwhelming sense of peace on my wedding day. I had been so stressed and tryingbto plan a wedding while in medical school but on that day, i had peace. It was Gods gift to me on that day.
Loved this video! Thank you
In the series" Frontier House" I LOVED the wedding. Guest brought food, some dishes had a lovely linen to cover, or a dish for the newlyweds to keep..... What a great way to all enjoy a wedding. The MARRIAGE was celebrated, not the "event".
This was one of your best episodes so far...you ladies are so special! It's so wonderful to listen to the different ways of celebrating, and the traditions. Your dresses? You both looked absolutely stunning, both on your wedding days AND in this video! Thank you so much for sharing, once again, for us all ♥♥♥
I love honey I’m a homemaker 👍🏻🤩 Thanks for sharing your stories an view of life.
This was super fun to listen to!!!
Great job girls! I enjoy your honey I'm homemaker videos🙂
Thanks! You all are our ride or dies!!
So fun. My wedding was sweet and cheap. Everyone help and I pray for every detail including my second hand wedding dress and God answer :). So glad your wedding are simple, the money spend on honeymoon or setting up the house is very fun :)
Great podcast as always.
I think people can be prideful about their wedding regardless of the budget.
We want to hear details about everything! We love hearing you. That’s why we are here! Lol
I can’t wait to watch while my toddler naps-you girls just made my day! Thank you! The dresses are beautiful 💖🙏💖🙏
Can't wait to hang out together!
I’m currently planning my wedding - this video came with such good timing! I’m doing a modern “mini-mony” with only immediate family members followed by a reception in Sea Island, GA!
Yes on engagement stories!
I'm very grateful for all our friends who helped us. Many of them used their talents and gifted us things for our wedding..like our cake! A gorgeous 4 tier wedding cake all the tiers different flavors and mini cupcakes for the kids. Completely free! It was her gift to me! I also knew the caterer who charged me way less than he should have, borrowed Christmas lights and blue mason jars from everyone..it was such a blessing
Oh, my goodness! I need to hear more about shaking the naughties out of the bride and throwing the groom over the fence! Those are both things I’ve never heard of! I’m glad you both had beautiful weddings and did keep the emphasis on what was important, the marriage itself. Bloopers…I’m trying to think. My husband did come in and go to the wrong spot by the altar, which had be discombobulated and anxious, but the preacher helped make it right and if you hadn’t been at the rehearsal, you would not have known the difference. My husband also stepped on my train on the way to the hotel room, but what did that matter at that point?! It was all great. Such memories! ❤ Off to see your pictures on IG!
3 weeks before our wedding there was a fire in our ancient church's sanctuary. This church had been attended by many generations of my family going back to 1752 when the church was organized and all those generations had been married in that church, so it was very important to me.There was a sunday school chapel that was not affected by the fire so I decided to have the wedding there. However, we had invited 125 people to the wedding and the little chapel only held 50 at best. So we had to call up 75 people and explain why we had to uninvite them to the wedding ceremony and only have them at the reception. Most were very understanding - the church fire had been all over the news and newspapers, so many were waiting to hear from us about what we were going to do. When we walked out of the church after the wedding there was a large group of people who had been uninvited but they were there to wish us well , and throw the rice and follow our car to the reception honking horns etc all the way - as was a big tradition in Pittsburgh back then. My husband's friends had really gone all out decorating the cars with the traditional tin cans and streamers all over our car and streamers on theirs. As we drove the 20 min drive to the reception we picked up some cars along the way, and lots & lots of people honked and waved etc as we passed.
aww so touching
This is a really "AWESOME" video seemed more personal and get to know you both better .I loved it. I hope you do more like this one . We were poor we got married by a justice of the peace my best friend and step mother were witnesses . It much have been ok .We got married very very young and have been married 54 years and we still love each other.. God Bless love from Kansas🥰
This was so enjoyable to listen to and hear about your customs and personal touches to each of your weddings! Weddings are a huge deal where I live and I won’t even say what my parents spent on our wedding 15 years ago. It was beautiful, but at the end of the day, I would have preferred a smaller, less formal wedding!
When i got to the church after getting my hair done, my roommate from college arrived so we were catching up, then it was time to put my dress on and start taking pictures and I forgot to put my makeup on. Didn't realize it till later
My grandmother fell down the stairs unconscious at my wedding reception. My father-in-law was a doctor and tended to her while we waited for the ambulance. Then the music came on and we were sort of lost. In many pictures you can see me and my cousins crying, worried about Grandma. She recovered 100% and she apologized to me for ruining my wedding. I reassured her she did NOT ruin my wedding and I was just thankful she was okay. ❤❤ It was QUITE the evening!
This was so interesting. Thank you so much for sharing. Your weddings sound beautiful. Your white dresses are gorgeous (love the socks Megan).
How interesting! Jayna,I love how your wedding was, the focus was more to keep the people happy and on Jesus...how nice, and you are beautiful! Joanna
Good job love this video I was married forty years and then my husband passed away I miss him very much he's been gone going on 5 years so enjoy every every minute every day of your life have a blessed Monday night ❤️
So sorry for your loss ❤️
My brother in law took our wedding photos, and that was their wedding gift to us which we appreciated! We were also very poor!😅 my mom made our lavish wedding cake with a fountain, steps, and 6 cakes around the main tiered cake! It was raining all morning, but as soon as we were under the arch holding hands and listening to a song just for us, the sun shone down on us through the skylight.😁 we’ve been married for 30 years.
In 1977 we had gift receivers who opened our gifts for us. Then everyone, after the reception, would go around and look at our gifts. I walked down the aisle myself to singing. We had no dancing, thank goodness. The groom would give a short speech thanking everyone for coming and say where we were going on a honeymoon. Both our mothers made dresses out of the same fabric. Ahh - such a simple and precious day to remember.
I think some conservative groups still have the gift receivers open the gifts. I could be wrong tho
I would love to see and hear about more details about your wedding and your reception.
I would love to hear proposal stories 🥰
Thank you, that was so interesting! 😊
I agree with you, Megan, about planning for a marriage vs planning for the Wedding Day. I think a lot of people get caught up with the stress, expense, and expectations of perfection for their big day. Sure, a Bride and Groom want a beautiful start to their lives together, but the focus can extend far beyond the one day.
Thank you for sharing all your wedding memories ,so special ,thankfully God designed a ceremony for us to be joined together,Teresa in Mn Blessings to you both,
2:11
Yeah!!! You went to my country “Jamaica”🥰
Now I know why I’m drawn to your channel 🤣
My wedding was almost 29 years ago, but as an Apostolic the way we did our wedding was surprisingly similar. My Church didn't believe in going too far out for a wedding because those funds were better spent on the things that were necessary for life after the wedding. We did kiss and feed each other cake and such. But very modest.I also fixed half the wedding party's hair
Yes do proposal stories!
Our wedding was very similar to yours-we didn’t have any rules, but the outcome was pretty much the same. Our blooper was my then fiancé was hiring a waistcoat and a bright pink bow tie for the wedding-the tie made his outfit-he assumed I picked it up and I assumed he did, until late the night before we realised neither of us picked it up-our wedding was at 11 the next morning and the shop didn’t open until 10!! Phewie, it was close, but we made it in time.
I wore lacy, flat tennis shoes on my wedding. I was not about to wear uncomfortable shoes. I am so glad that I made that decision!
I got married at EAA in Oshkosh, WI (an airplane museum) in September of 2021,and they had a little chapel that was so quaint and beautiful. My grandma had passed away the summer before so I wore some of her jewelry and had a picture of her tied around my flowers. My dad wore goofy socks like he is known for and I got to dance with my grandpa (my last living grandparent). I look back and thank God for that day because it was all of my favorite people in one room celebrating the love my husband and I have for each other.
The most memorable thing about my wedding:
September 29, 2018 in the PNW we had an outdoor ceremony and covered reception; it was rainy and gloomy most of the day, 15 minutes before I was to walk down the aisle my wedding coordinator asked if I wanted to move all the chairs under the covered reception area due to the rain and I said, “No, because if we do it’s going to stop raining right as I’m walking down.” Sure enough it stopped raining, got sunny as we said our vows and prayed together, poured the sand, etc., then walked back up the aisle and people had to pull their umbrellas out again! ❤
My husband and I shocked everyone by eloping to Vegas. Lol. I bought a dress on sale for $500 and our wedding cost $500. With flights and everything, we came in under $2K. A limo picked us up and dropped us off and we went to dinner. It was perfect!
First ,Love the content 🥰Prayers for you and your family
Thanks so much for being here!
Your dresses are beautiful!
The morning of our wedding my Dad was super sick and never made it to our wedding! I know there are worse things but it broke my heart not only for myself not having my Dad there to walk me down the isle(I was also his youngest + last daughter to get married) but also the fact that he lay at home sick and wishing badly to be there!😭Our wedding day will forever be a bitter sweet memory🥺❤️
I hope there was a video or photos. Dang. He needs hugs.
Loved this episode! We were married many years ago (Catholic church wedding, then dinner-dance reception) the Saturday after Thanksgiving in NYS. We had a 5-day honeymoon in St. Maarten, and then flew to Fairbanks, Alaska, where my husband was stationed as an Army officer at Fort Wainwright. My parents paid for everything. My wedding gown was a sample gown from Lord & Taylor in NYC.
We've got the Super Bowl here in Arizona so I imagine the travel and hotels would be pretty $$$ right now.
LOVE these
My maid of honor and myself made all of our dresses with a bit of coaching from my grandma. We got married in mid August, hotter than blazes, and thankful we had chosen cotton gowns... (3 of us had allergy issues with other fabrics.) All of our fabric was less than $100 (40 years ago) while my friends were paying over $500-600 for just their weddiing dress.
This was such a neat episode! We got married almost four years ago and the whole thing (dress, food, flowers, venue, photos etc) was around 5500.
The only thing that went wrong on our wedding day was the florist accidentally sent our flowers to the farmers market to sell😂 Thankfully they caught it before any had sold (I had already paid for them and we were supposed to pick them up the morning of the wedding).
There's really nothing I would have changed about our wedding except maybe shrink the guest list - invited 150 and 123 showed. Oh and I would have done my own floral bouquet as well as my 2 bridesmaids.
I'm only two minutes into the video, and I have to pause to tell you how excited I am for this one! I am the wedding planner in my family, and I love to hear about other Christian wedding traditions/styles.
I SO understand the feeling of "wow...these people are here for me (us)." And we only had 30 people! (Kept it super small intentionally. But even still, my husband and I never make a show about things, and it felt so weird to be celebrated for the day in such a fashion.
I can only imagine howuch greater that feeling is when there is 250 people! 😆
Another lovely video. What strikes me watching your videos is how similar your lifes are to ours. We're not Mennonite or even American but your outlook seems very similar.
The morning of my wedding the septic system broke, I never knew and it was fixed before the wedding but due to the inconvenience they fully refunded us! While it could’ve been a big issue, having such a supportive bridal party and coordinator, it didn’t make a difference and we got a free venue!
I loved hearing about this! I also love how you were mindful of the money spent! I would love to hear about how you were proposed to if you do feel comfortable sharing!!!! I have a question though and forgive me if it's been asked. Why are some not allowed to wear white wedding dresses?
Awe... Megan, you're wearing my wedding dress❤
We had a really nice wedding and it was way cheaper than you guys! Lol I was expecting you to say you had a whole wedding for like $900 or something. I was shocked at what you spent on flowers! I think that is more than my whole wedding. I even had roses. We also rented greenery from our local greenhouse so it was much cheaper than overdoing it on flowers.
I ❤ Janna. Hope I spelled it correctly. Anyway I love your take and see how much more comfortable you are on camera🌈🌈🌈🎉
We got married in an old church (they're security/lock system on the door was a stick from a tree stuck through an eye bolt 😂) in West Virginia. I didn't know the area AT ALL, but it was my in-laws' old church. Anyway, nobody stayed behind at my hotel to show us the way when it came time to leave, so we got SUPER lost, had to stop and ask for directions, and I ended up being 45 minutes late to my OWN wedding. No reception to call anyone and communicate or anything
Oh no!!
Ah! Jamaica. Now that brings back memories! I lived there as an MK (missionary kid) for 3 1/2 years.
You Ladies look like a lot of fun ❤ new subscriber from Australia xo
We had very little money. Our wedding was less than $500. We will be celebrating 22 years in March.
I absolutely loved how much time I had to stand in my wedding dress and worship the lord while all my bridesmaids/moms got ready!
I just remember that The Lords presence was there that day!
A funny/snafu that happened was my now husband forgot his vows in the grooms room so his best man took off running and it helped everyone laugh and broke the ice! I love weddings and I especially loved my own wedding ❤
One of my bridesmaids bowed out the morning of my wedding! So my mom altered her dress for my sister, and we didn't have much time for photos, consequently! It didn't affect me too much, but I felt badly for my sister, since the dress didn't look that amazing(understandably). In hindsight, I wish we would have just nixed the groomsman she was with, since he was mostly just convenient and I don't think he would have minded.
Church, priest, 3 choir members, photographer and his wife, bride and groom. It was so peaceful and we could fully concentrate on services and prayer. ❤ Orthodox Church ceremony is about 1,5 hrs long.
Thank you for sharing your stories 🤗
We married in VT on a fall day w leaves falling around us. It was outside. There were only a handful of people there and then we went to eat dinner at a great restaurant.
Our rings were plain gold bands.
Our license cost $16.00 and every year on our anniversary we give each other a card with $8.00 in it. We’ve been married 36 years.
I love hearing about your traditions .
The
My special moment of our wedding was 2 fold. My husband has a son and wanted a special moment with him at the wedding so they had a special song they walked in to and had a special moment at the alter before everyone else walked in. And mine was with my dad. Instead of walking in to the traditional wedding march I surprised him with "our song" butterfly Kisses at the moment on the wedding day after using the traditional march at the rehearsal. My dad was crying by the time we got to the alter. And dad was one of the offientants so it was super sweet.
We saved our cake top. A year later we went to eat it and found out my brother in law ate it!
My wedding was about $1,200. Church wedding, 4 bridesmaids, this was before all the hoopla they do today. Methodist wedding.
Wow! That was interesting and good!!
almost laughing here😆 Jayna think's they are at a 5, I think Megan got that one right, more like an 8. I have been in a 3 church, and a 5, that's were we got married..
and would say I'm at a 7 now.
Thanks so much Megan & Jayna❤️
I stand by my 5 rating. 😆 🤣 especially 10 years ago when we were married. Haha
Fun to hear your stories..we married 1974 Greek Orthodox Church( was so hot the groom & Best man wore no jackets! Priest( in full gold & white Cloaks) asked where were their jackets . My Mum said they left them home! Also we had the 1hr service in bothGreek & English but was a rushed version as Priest had to be in the Hall next door by 7pm as he ran the Friday night Bingo !!! Do our 6pm wedding was over by 6.45 instead of being 90 minutes long
Our wedding only cost us around $3500 and was very minimal and an afternoon tea reception. We wanted minimal as to us it was just a day, and we were focusing on the marriage. My nephew was also putting balloons under the skirt of my dress at the reception, and I had no idea until I moved and a balloon came out from under the skirt
So many things went awry the week of my wedding😆 5 days before my wedding, we had to change venues because of weather (outdoor wedding in FL hurricane season🤣) and the DAY before my wedding, we had to cancel our honeymoon to Key West because of the same aforementioned hurricane. But we still ended up married and the actual wedding day went perfectly. I was married, after all! So all’s well that ends well😅
I was incredibly nervous to have everyone staring at me while I was going down the aisle. However, after walking down, I was no longer nervous. I was comfortable and relaxed for the rest of it.
So fun!
Love your dresses (the ones in the video that is😆)
I would love to see your wedding pictures and dresses.
Mine was a wonderful whirlwind international wedding as I am from the UK and he is from the US. We got engaged in the US and married in the UK 2 months after the proposal! We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this August :). Two bloopers from that day:. On the way to the church, I stopped off to use the restroom (not easy in my dress!). When I looked in the mirror I realized that the hair stylist had put my veil on the wrong way. I tried to fix it, but decided I had to run with it the wrong way round as probably no one except my mom would even notice - and I was right! The other thing is that I was so caught up with the reception afterwards that I omitted to present my mom with her bouquet of flowers that I had spent a lot of money on and didn't even realize until I was on my honeymoon :(
On my wedding day as I was standing at the alter, I sniffed my bouquet of real flowers and something in it activated my allergies and I had a quite and mini allergy attack all through the ceremony. I think I only sneezed once though! 😂
I’m a Mennonite and I actually wore a black dress at my wedding and our weddings are more somber and like a church service. Our reception was in the kitchen at our church and our church encourages very simple weddings I think the fanciest part of our wedding was our cake lol. The dress that most brides at our church is the same dress that we get baptized in so I guess you could say we’re very conservative 😊
There’s so many different kinds of Mennonites I love watching your videos!!
I really enjoy your videos! Always look for to them 😊 God bless ❤
I grew up Old Colony Mennonite in Canada. Our baptism / wedding dress (same dress) was black.
@@lainshka1327 ok so we grew up very similar then I grew up Reinlaender in Texas and my parents have been to the old colony in Canada and they say it’s very similar to the Reinlaender church where we go :)
There's so much I wish could have been a little better or different for our wedding, but for financial or timing reasons just had to be the way they were. Our biggest regret was not paying more for a better photographer and not getting a video of any sort. We were very blessed by how many people helped us out by donating their services as seamstress, florist, singer, church ladies decorating and cooking, sign language interpreter (that was what I was studying in college so even with no Deaf guests I wanted songs interpreted). My husband did most of the planning work because I was still in school and working 2 jobs.
Perfect 💖
