the fal'cie at the top of taejin's tower (Dahaka) was not minding its own business, it's the same fal'cie that attacked your airship at the start of the chapter and grounded you in vallis media
As goofy and over the top as a lot of FF13's story was, I really liked the gradual reveal that civilization on Pulse was dead. The growing sense of something wrong as the party proceeded through areas reclaimed by nature, into places that seemed like they should've had people in them, and finally to Oerba and proof that there was no one left. Very good mood-setting.
Something that I think you may have missed, Mike. Barty literally says that, 'I am Fal'Cie.' So, Fal'Cie can speak. So what is the point of a focus being a 'Hazy Glimpse?' This was the point where the whole plot of the game imploded for me.
The biggest problem in the plot is as a l'cie the best option is to either kys or do nothing, but you cant have your ff party do nothing. So shit just falls apart. 😅
A lot of Mike's confusion about the changes in style between games comes from him not really understanding the structure at Square and the different teams that work on FF ganes. There is essentially no continuity between the developers on 12 and 13. But you can see the extreme sinilarities between 10, 13, and 7R which were all developed by the same key people.
It would be a little strange to find credit cards for the floating item generating kiosks while exploring an untamed wilderness full of giant animals lol. Gil farming is just selling items obtained from repeating C'ieth stone quests. Interestingly a pretty common way is selling gold nuggets, kind of like real life. Just that instead of drilling into the planet and mining for ore, we mine giant stompy dinosaurs...?
He found out you can sell credit chips and gold dust for gil, but he didn't realize you can sell perfume for gil. A lot of the rewards at this point are perfumes (which sell for 12.5K each). There's been about 150K+ worth of gil items consumed for weapon upgrades rather than being sold to the shop. :(
Idk this story is complicated enough where every episode of this I’ve had to rewind at least once because I stopped paying attention for two seconds and was like what?
I don't think you can call that tower a dungeon lmao The story is yeah not that complicated but for me, it was pretty hidden. I didn't read the data log the first time around so half the things are just not clear to me (my bad). But I love it nonetheless. As for the gil problem... There are certain points in the game where you encounter humanoid enemies that you can fight, zone out, and zone back in to respawn them. Also in Pulse, you can farm certain cieth stone quests for repeatable rewards. This is great until you get to the famous Eden tortoise grind. I'd say grind, but its more of "endless cycle of suffering" lol
The weirdest thing of all time was when they released the promotional video for 13-2 that explained the gods of 13. That's where the 13 trilogy actually gets weird, confusing, and overly complex because it's never touched upon within the game itself (I never finished Lightning Returns) yet it matters through all of 13-2 and Lightning Returns and KIND OF in 13-1... And that promotional video is WEIRDLY long to explain some abstract lore...
They made it to establish the shared lore that the other XIII games (Versus and Agito) was suppose to interpret. However, they pivoted and repurposed those games and so the XIII trilogy itself incorporated most of it.
@@magnainsomnia It was all so ambitious. I was always sad they didn't go forward with Versus XIII. 15 changed a lot, but Stella had a cool design. While appreciate the story we got with 15 I always wanted to see what was planned. But Type-0 I think still does have its 13 ties but they're still practically in their own sub dimension where the scientist lady they all loved (who was also a Fal'cie) ran an experiment over 10 million years where she kept rebooting the timeline every time Class 0 died.
A lot of stuff is only explained in ff13-2 fragments lore, in a dark souls lore pieces text dump style, but is still not done very well. It's like they had this grand cosmology but were afraid to talk about it in game, for some reason.
By trying to be realistic with the drops they backloaded the amount of money and materials grinding you have to do during post game by a lot. The sound effect of the Death Spell being repeatedly cast by Vanille when farming turtles will forever be engrained in my mind 🥲 They definitely shot themselves in the foot with the strictly no money from monsters thing. Going from 5K to 500k may seem a lot until you realize how expensive endgame upgrades can be. Getting Tier 3 Weapons for each character may take some time.
When they went to Pulse, then didn't explicitly conclude anything after the long journey, then return to Cocoon chasing Bart though they have no plan what they are going to do to stop the fal cie, but also save Cocoon the player is lacking the foresight we assume the characters have. This is a reoccurring problem throughout the game partially because they are so awful at world building. No way the 12 year old me on release would ever have the patience to follow this story. Seeing how it played out, when I play the game no way I'll stop to appreciate anything besides the combat.
I'm looking forward to Preach playing FFXIII-2. The gameplay is so much vastly superior to FFXIII. The story is actually fairly comprehensible too until the very very end (and until you delve into Lightning Returns).
I'm glad Preach seems to be reaching the same conclusion I had about the game - the cutscenes are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, the combat's surprisingly really good, but everything else...?
The presentation of the story in 13 is baffling to me because once you find out what the story is for the trilogy, it's extremely straight forward and simple but they make it a convoluted mess. And I'll never understand, FFX was one of the most popular, it's much more complicated and exposition heavy but everyone loved it, meanwhile FFX-2 was polarizing and dragged by most for this cheesy, idol anime girl thing and the tone being childish but it's like they decided no one likes the style that worked in X and every game should make weird choices in the vain of X-2(I use this example because of Vanille, Serah and even the weird return of Sailor Moon mechanics in Lightning Returns). It should not have been hard to make this story work but honestly, Vanille's characterization alone says everything that needs to be said about the mindset behind this game.
The reason why X is like despite being more complex of a story is it tells it MUCH better and X-2 is hated because i kneecaps the very theme of the first game and makes the entire ending pointless
@@skylarsimes8 This, FFX they actually explained the terms and rules of the world so it never felt like you didn't know what was happening. And FFX-2 felt like fan service, but in trying to do that, they undermined the story of FFX turned Yuna into a cheesy idol and regressed her character(similarly to the weird characterization of Vanille), like it tried to have style at the expense of substance which is what FF13 feels like to me, they wanted style and flair so the sacrificed proper storytelling.
Dehaka was just an aggressive asshole, it was deserved. BTW Preach: dont be afraid to sell shit lol As for Preach considering what ripple effects killing Fal'cie has: (potential spoilers below) on pulse none. According to the datalogs (not sure if 13 or 13-2) there are two gods with the goal of finding the maker and they go for two different methods. The god of Pulse searches the world and created pulse Fal'cie to search in their own way. The god that would found Cocoon decided to search the afterlife and decided it would get in there with a rapid mass extinction event to open the gate to the afterlife wide enough for them to get in. It created Fal'cie to maintain the pasture and Pulse Fal'cie contribute by throwing Pulse L'cie at Cocoon to pull the trigger for them.
A lot of important background lore, especially about gods in this world (mentioned off-hand in the games) is stuffed into companion novels to the game. Great storytelling, eh? It doesn't get as bad as in FFXV where side content sometimes contains important character stuff but if for whatever reason one gets into the lore of this trilogy, the novels and guidebooks are actually crucial to fully understanding it. What an awful awful idea.
1:35 basically what I dislike the most. The story telling is so bad. The cutscenes are so blockbuster like, while all important stuff is in the data log. So instead of showing you have to read through the story - in a video game. I rather watch 5-10 minute cutscenes that give you story bits than this.

It's been years since I played FF13 these videos have been so funny reminiscing about my own memories of the game.
He is actually going to finish the game. What a champion.
It's never explicitly stated, but a theory is everyone from Pulse became l'cie to fight in the war and therefore turned into cie'th.
Isn't it because the final plan was to destroy cocoon and everyone in it and the humans of pulse were just useless for the fal'cies?
Are we the baddies? I figure Preach asks himself that far too often. 😆
Ive played through 13 twice when i was like 13-14 years old, somehow that whole Tower is completely gone from my memory
FF12 was made by the Ivalice team, not team 1 that currently makes ff7 remakes and made ff13. thats why the dungeons have no puzzles in 13.
Isn't 7 remake made by the kingdom hearts 1 and 2 team
@@guardiansparksno it's not. Different teans
Funny thing about the Fal'cie boss battles, if you drag on way to long, he'll cast doom on you and shit will hit the fan quickly.

Can't wait to see the finale of XIII 😂
They're VODs on Twitch. I just got done watching it.
We'll just say the world and story and reaction is right in line with the rest of the game

@Dras7 like how super heroes hate using super hero names in movies. So afraid it will make the whole thing look silly and unbelievable.
