The point is, Nigeria is far behind in road infrastructure. Condemning new road is not going to solve those problems quickly. We need as much modern road as we can afford to boost the economy and standard of living. There is no merit of the project far outweigh the demerits. We can not continue to be shortsighted. Nigeria need massive infrastructure and that is what the federal government is doing right now.

So Pres.Tinubu should listen to these Self-Centered Politicians/People from certain parts of the Country who are asking for a delay of a South-South major Road Poject that has been in the Waiting for more than 40 years. Do they want us to Wait another Decade for it to Start?. Kudos to Pres. Tinubu and South-South people (Ben Bruce etc) who are coming out to Defend the Road Project.

Most of the dilapidated road you are talking about fall withing the ambit of the state government. Let the federal government do their job and hold the state the state government accountable to do their job in road infrastructure as well. And then we can go down to the local government responsibilities which also include local road project. It's that simple.

@@nedgrg6800Get your facts right. Their is nothing wrong with the federal government taking on major project for the entire country. When completed, the coastal road will ease a lot of pressure on commuting through the west to the east. What is more important in that in economical sense?
My own is, as the federal is doing their own, let the state and local government also do their own.

Can the PDP point to any project of benefit to Nigeria after 16yrs in office? isn't it because the projects they initiate are designed never to be finished. Atiku right now wonders why the bid was not thrown open so that he will introduce his shell companies with criminally minded foreign contractors to bid and continue with the never to be finished projects that characterized the PDP.

It is funny how some people see this project as anti-Ibo project when the Minister of works who is spearheading the project is an Ibo man. And the project will is to link the West to the East and by extension Igbo land. I can't understand the argument. But hey, it is Nigeria. We somehow always turn everything to tribal issue. Where I live here in Northern Virginia United States, a whole Marriott hotel was demolished because the state want to expand an existing road. Here we are arguing whether landmark should be affected or not when the business was not demolished but we be impacted by the construction. So what about all other property owners across the state whose houses have been affected for decades because of one road construction or the other?

Massive projects like coastal highway are done in countries with healthy economy.
This is not a priority in Nigeria at this time.
Nigeria is in coma and needs life support. Dilapidated infrastructures across the country. Poor health care. Poor educational facilities. No electricity. No jobs. No pipe borne water. Unimaginable insecurity across the country. Jail breaks everywhere. Ethnic and religious crisis. Herders/farmers clashes. Regional and community disputes . Political parties and contestants in courts across the country.
Military and paramilitary institutions in conflicts.
    Judiciary inefficiency and corruption.
    Criminal politicians and dealers.
    Executive branch embezzlers .
Aid and abating agencies and gangsters everywhere.
    Contracts awarded to invisible contractors.
    Excessive theft from government coffers.
    Zero accountability and transparency.
    Zero liability and punishment.
The audacity of the elite class to steal with impunity. The list is unlimited. So let's beware for Nigeria is bleeding profusely.
