      Good engineer perhaps but a poor public servant…
      The problem in Nigeria is that way too many people (both in government and among the governed) appear to have no clue about governance. That’s why this same dude was being lauded as a ‘good’ governor when he was governing one of the poorest states in the country and the only one in the SE (possibly in the entire Southern Nigeria) classified as “educationally disadvantaged” and opted to build a vanity so-called “international” airport (that’s presently virtually non-functional) when there was a perfectly good international airport less than an hour’s drive away in Enugu. Not to mention building several flyovers for a population that mostly relied on bicycles, motorcycles and tricycles.
      DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE ABOUT PEOPLE, not things! Destroying the businesses and livelihoods of possibly tens of thousands of citizens (your employers) when there is a perfectly reasonable solution is shockingly poor governance. There’s a reason in advanced democracies one can hardly rename a street or school without an open hearing and vote.

    For the first time since the assumption of President Tinubu to power, I can say without equivocation that the president has a knack for selecting competent hands to serve in his administration. I’m so impressed with Honorable Minister Dave Umahi for his knowledge in Engineering. He’s a competent man who knows what he’s talking about and what he’s doing. Nigerians know brilliant minds when we see them. Kudos to you Mr. Umahi. May the good Lord grant you the ability to dispense your responsibilities to the gratitude of all Nigerians irrespective of party affiliation. Also worthy of commendation is the Honorable Minister of Aviation Mr. Festus Keyamu who is equally pulling his weight in the Aviation Sector. Kudos to the President for appointing these two as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We need more competent hands to lead us out of the present economic, social insecurity quagmire presently bedeviling the country.

The coasts of many countries worldwide is highly reserved for recreational activities linked to tourism which is a source of revenue. Rather than even building this road, we need improvements on existing road infrastructure. We lack maintenance and improvement culture. 8 years can be used to do greater this to improve the quality of lives. That should be the priority.

      Firstly, Landmark's real reason for their media blitz is cos they want to keep access to the beach which they never owned in the first place as by law, it always belonged to the Federal Government
      Secondly, relocating the Coastal road to pass through Water Corporation road means there would be even more demolitions as that area is heavily built up. Do those other property owners not matter too?

    Good talk. My concern is beyond Landmark and broader. A different perspective, actually!. How about starting with just the "RAIL"? An option is to concede it to an investor via a transparent bid like the GSM licenses(MTN, Glo, etc) model. That way, the government rakes in about 500m to 1b dollars as concession fees, concedes to 30 years, and will only be saddled with project management and a defined percentage of revenue to reduce the investor's risk. The Fed won't need to commit or pledge our resources which are already stretched. Existing resources can be channeled towards existing roads that are all dilapidated all over the country. Also to maximize the impact on GDP, it would be nice for the project to commence simultaneously from both ends of the country. That will reduce pressure on Lagos. We must take advantage of a huge country size to spur growth rather than create a city-country model like Singapore and delay widespread growth stimulation.

      In Nigeria, things are done with impunity which fits very well with the way tinubu operates. In saner climes, there would have been a year long open consultation, the budget would be fixed and known, there would have been open public tenders and the contractors would be known. If you have to use eminent domain, all those affected would have been properly consulted and compensated. This was not even the original plan for this road, it is based on Tinubu's whims of having a coastal road in Lagos that he has now extended to Calabar and just like in Lagos, he doesn't care who is in his way, he'll just remove them and move on. What is that you say? Those affected can go to court? Sure, Tinubu is already waiting for you there.

      In reference to the land contract between Landmark and the government, it's important to note that the shoreline was not included as part of the agreement. Therefore, the government is not obligated to compensate Landmark for the recovery of their property, which rightfully belongs to them.

    I love how Umah i has been working but very disappointed to hear him on this. First, no one is arguing Fed govt's ultimate ownership, national interest or right of way, but common sense. There was an old map, and a prominent tourist attraction was built using that. If you now move the map, it makes sense to accomodate the existing business if at all possible. Secondly, that you start behind the business and go back to the coastline for the rest of the highway does not make it not to be a coastline. That's absurd. Finally, the beach is the draw that makes people patronise businesses. Of course if you remove that, you have limited/no patrons to support businesses and they will fold up. This is beyond stupid, and it's sad that a smart man is coming out to say these ridiculous things.

Why didn't they go through the water front of the Eko Atlantic investment of the Chagouri group?
    What about the eleko to lekki-Port section of the road which is an average of 500m inland? But the Minister insist that he must pass the road through the beach front @ Landmark otherwise it will no longer be a coastal road, thereby taking the heart of the landmark business investment which is the beach front.
    This Minister does not even consider that the person at stake is his brother & to plead on his behalf to Mr Presiden;

He mentions that his office will release or run figures in the future , but so far, he has not provided any meaningful information regarding the cost.(We eagerly await that)
    Given that he asserts his expertise, it is now incumbent upon him, as the minister, to address the significant issue of the lack of verifiable data on federally or state-owned demarcated rights of way and properties.
    The federal government should maintain a publicly accessible and annually updated compendium of all rights of way and other properties, complete with gazetted longitude and latitude locations. This would assist investors planning to purchase land from local and state governments, providing guidance similar to this would have benefited an investor like Landmark.

    All the efforts made by the Honorable Minister especially in relating to businesses and communities impacted by this project is highly commendable. You have proved sir, that you are a leader that listen and proffer solutions. Please extend this to all other communities affected by the deviation from the existing ROW gazetted for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road in the Lekki region.
