At the FMEA Annual Conference in Tampa, FL, and attended a clinic today by THIS band and its conductor, Rhett Cox. Their clinic was about this very performance, where this was their 2nd of 3 pieces at their District Band "festival" (MPA-Music Performance Assessment, in Florida)--without a conductor, and from memory. A very moving clinic this afternoon, where they played another, shorter piece...without a conductor, and from memory. What a fine ensemble. BTW, at the very beginning of this clip, that's Mr. Cox walking away from the podium to the left, where he took a seat in a chair in the back of the band, so he could be "with them" on stage. There's a bigger story to how and why they did this, but you'll have to find that out elsewhere. Just enjoy this performance...which evidently got a rousing standing ovation. And THEN, they had to play their 3rd piece, Armenian Dances (which can also be found on UA-cam.)
This takes me back@ had the chance to play this song as apart of the 2008 4A TX STATE HONOR BAND Poteet Highschool. was blessed to be conducted by a childhood family friend
Orlando Vasquez they're all directing each other. That's the whole point the director is in the ensemble and together the ensemble is watching each other and feeling the music. It's wonderful!
Rhett is a former classmate of mine at Western Illinois University. What an amazing performance. Congratulations.
Beautiful! Love watching the musicians playing with the physical emotion of the piece, rather than sitting like statues! Great job!
On my lunch break and I'm in tears. Got to pull it together to walk back in the office. This is spellbindingly beautiful.

Hands down the best clinic at FMEA this year. So beautiful and moving. I loved it
I'm not crying! You're crying! (sniff) Just stunningly beautiful. I've never heard this for orchestra before, just the choral version. Amazing.

Hi Reddit!
Jesus.
Where's the conductor? The English Horn guy seems to be directing them.

That's an oboist.
Very nice. I wish Choirs could sing this without music or a director...Oh wait, they do it all the time. 😎
weird flex but ok
lol band is completely different. especially in this piece you need to see the director. lol don’t you see how big that band is
I thought the oboe player was going to pull muscle… way too much motion.
