PLEASE - by all means! There are more wonders for you to discover. Shostakovich inspired me too. You won't always find great composers, but you might become one yourself.
I have loved the music by Shostakovich since I was 11 years old and first picked up an instrument to play. This is my favorite of all I ever learned since. Now, I'm over 60. I can still remembe rhow it felt to play his compositions, with the rest of the team. Balanced, enlightening and almost magical.

We played it in 8th grade for competition. Sadly, our fantastic band director failed to take into account the plebian, uninspired judges, who had no tolerance for high school/college level music from us blue-collar plebes. We got a SECOND in state. Most of us were crushed. I had never heard us play so well as that day. I have good hearing, stellar pitch (it's genetic, I swear on my life) and I sat surrounded by my peers who played their hearts out. Of course I did too, but they were SO inspired. The judges sucked. We didn't.
We had a pretty good High School symphonic band. Neither of us baritones (euphoniums) could really play some of those fast lines; we had to fake it. These guys have 4 euphonists who looked and sounded like they could all play it. I guess maybe I shoulda practiced a lot more. I’m so ashamed.
I just watch the fingering and know that part when I see it. (played it MANY times in concert plus rehearsal! It says 4th, but it should the "If you wanna have some fun" part!@@nosnojrcj
We played a marching arrangement of this in college during the 80's when corpse style was all the rage and the trumpets carried the melody as a result. It was a very brass heavy style.

Jeez your middle school must have been one of the best in state. The thought of a middle school band playing this piece at all, let alone well is astonishing
This feels a lot slower and with less "pomp" than when I performed it in high school. Not sure which interpretation is more accurate, but this performance is still good!
Playing this right now, an I am very glad it is in Ab instead of A because that would be so much harder. Of course I am used to concert band keys and not the keys orchestras usually play in.
Ok question how do you think being able to play good is bad ? Also no because it depends on how much you practice and I've have seen alot of people that are much younger and and can probably beat me in music but the short answer is no and is it just you playing the piece or whole band? Also I'm in 8th
I’m in 8th grade and I’m amazed, this is what makes me wanna keep playing trumpet
Same but I play the Tenor Sax 🎷

That is *the most incredible* intonation and control I have *ever* heard on a piccolo. My jaw is wide open, wow!

The woodwind parts to this are a beast
The BEAST? LOL NO! Shostakovich was nothing if not balanced.

It’s amazing at how fast they can play.
Grand in sound. Rich in talent. Incredible in precision. Simply beautiful.
An absolutely terrific performance. Extraordinarily clean.
Great job. Lead clarinet was awesome and winds right on point

This is my favorite piece for band - and it has my privilege to have played it in high school honor band - 2nd chair Tuba.

Great piece! Great performance. Bravo!
This arrangement stays very true to the original orchestral score.
Except for the key.
What arrangement is this?

Felt pretty right to me except for the weird accelerando towards the end.
