It is the stories of missing or murdered children that are the absolute worst. Where have you gone in life that you have entered the gutterhole to the point of killing a Child??😢 Rest In Peace little 🐎 lover 🧸Leigh.🌹😔🌹 🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🕊️
Because mom had just learned that a storm, which she thought was passing them by, was in fact going to hit the neighborhood after all? I was what was once called a "latchkey" kid, and my mom 100% would have called me in that situation.
Such a tragic case. I'm just lost on what could be her mother's motive, if she is truly responsible. Yes, Vicky failed polygraph tests, but those are notoriously unreliable. As for why she returned home so quickly, a mother's intuition is a very real phenomenon that unfortunately just can't hold up in court. Given that it was Lee's first time staying by herself and there being a severe weather alert, I can't find it surprising or suspicious that a mother would want to return home to see if her child is ok, especially after Lee didn't pick up the phone. If Vicky was in a former relationship with an alleged abuser and ok with seeing that abuse being carried out on her daughter, I doubt she would have left that relationship in the first place. To me, it sounds like Oscar Kearns is more likely. He was a convicted violent predator, was familiar with and had targeted Lee in the past, and would have been someone who she probably trusted enough to open the door for. If Vicky is innocent, and imo I think she is, I cannot imagine the trauma of losing your daughter in such a unmistakably violent way on the first time you leave her alone, and then being accused of being the one responsible.
While it's common to think that there is a very real thing known as a "mother's intuition", it's actually a wives' tale. It's just more common for mothers to worry, but we get it wrong most of the time. There were circumstances surrounding the situation that would have caused more worry - the storm, first time being left home alone, etc. I've heard much more information on other channels. I don't remember the details, but believe it had something to do with the timing of the phone calls, the age of the blood, her clothing, and some suspicious behavior by the mother. It's possible that her ex boyfriend killed Leigh and then called her at work. She might have decided to leave immediately and then cover for him. Also, all of that could have happened the night before and there was a scheme concocted where she would show up at work for a few minutes and then use her daughter as an excuse to leave a few minutes afterward. I think the info I heard on other channels gave a hint as to a motive the mother might have had. It's also very odd that she did not tell the father that the house was a blood bath. Leigh was the apple of his father's eye. I could be wrong, but I want to say that he would not have agreed to let her stay home alone and said he would have taken time off work if he had known. Don't quote me on that though because it's been a long time since I saw the other videos. Whatever the case, there is a young girl who was robbed of her future. 💔
Seriously, get out of here with that mothers intuition garbage. If it was her father, everyone in the comments would be accusing him of being guilty. But because Vickie is a middle class white woman, magically everything suspicious she did is written off by some of you. It’s insane.
Typically with mothers having motives to getting rid of their kids is mainly they don’t want them anymore. They don’t want the responsibility and want freedom. Other motives include life insurance which doesn’t seem to be motive at all in this case. Sometime it’s revenge against the father of the child. Sometimes the mother hates, resents and hates the child. There were cases were a crazy religious mother and her partner killed her two children so she could be free from them and be in the cult. Which was crazy because she could of given them up to the dad. Another one was a mother who was last scene with her young son and she claimed she gave him away. He was never found and assumed dead because she didn’t want the father to have custody so she killed him. Hid the body and later took her own life The issue is there is little evidence, no body. No known motive, and the mother give give a good lead of some other known guy in their area could of been the killer.
The inventor spent years trying to discredit his machine because he knew it was unreliable because all it would take is blood pressure problems, heart problems, or breathing problems to get a false positive or negative
Horrifying! I've never heard of that happening before. Mistakenly assuming? I can imagine that, but misidentifying the skull AFTER they've compared the dental records? ?? Ghastly...
We know from many cases that an hour is more than enough time to commit a crime like this, I'm also sure that blood from a violent assaut the previous night would not be hard to distinguish from blood that was only an hour old.
Agreed. I think everything is pointing to the mother, but that said, innocent until proven guilty. I’m certainly not going to say SHE DID IT when she could very well just be an innocent mother grieving.
@@smvfc Absolutely. There's quite enough people getting their lives ruined from mere accusations as it is. In fact I think I could do with a lot less of it.
I think the father is spot on. The mother knows more than she is telling. I think it is likely that either by accident or on purpose, the mother killed her daughter the night before and spent that night covering her tracks. Then she got lucky that a storm washed away the scent for the dogs to track and that a local man committed a S.A crime against a girl the dame age.
This mother is more than suspicious!! Why on EARTH wouldn't she mention anything about the blood smeared all over the house when she spoke to Leigh's father?!? That woman is pure evil.
I can understand the shoes and glasses being noticeably gone and even the set of clothes...but a sleeping bag? I wonder where it was originally stored that Vicki noticed that it was even gone. If my husband were to suddenly go missing and I'm asked if anything is missing besides him, I'm not so sure that I would notice his 'dove bucket' missing from the corner of the spare bedroom closet....you know? I'm guessing Leigh was removed from the house inside that sleeping bag! Find the sleeping bag and you would have/will have found her body. Why was her gown in the dirty clothes basket? Sorry, that seems like somewhere a woman would put it...versus a man. I'm confused by the narrator's wording at 2:25....she says 'Vicki made the call to go into work that day'. What does that mean? Did Vicki make the decision to actually work that day...or...did Vicki get called into work when she wasn't expecting to work that day? In either case, I don't think Vicki intended for Leigh to be left alone. If that was truly the first time she'd been left alone at home, that must mean that she usually accompanied her Mama to work, had someone stay with her at the house or was dropped off with another adult, right? I think Leigh didn't want to get up and go with her that morning, especially if her Grandparents were going to take her somewhere later. I think they argued and Vicki became physical with her. Might have hit her and bloodied her nose, causing the blood on her gown. Made her change clothes and then...it escalated into something worse. I honestly think Vicki killed her that morning and used work as her alibi and had to call home to set the 'she's missing and something bad happened' in motion.
Yup totally agree! something inside her just snapped…seen a lot on this case & instinct is just telling me ex-military mom/family dispute/ definitely a control freak with her only daughter. Leigh might’ve been an argumentative kid but Vicki was a calculative, self-entitled individual.
It is someone that family knows. Someone close enough to know that Leigh was going to be alone for the first time that day. Seems like Leigh must have let them inside, not suspecting a thing. I shudder to think about what that innocent little girl endured. Hope to god they find this monster and throw the -book- *entire library* at them.
Why WOULDN'T they feel compelled to pick her up/come stay with her so that she wouldn't be alone in a big storm? My grandpa would have been 💠compelled💠 to do that, knowing I was home alone❣
We don't know that. She had very odd behavior following her daughter's disappearance. For starters, why not tell the father that the house was a blood bath?? There were other details left out of this video, but I don't remember what they were.
I remember when Cayleigh Elise covered this case. I don't recall if she focused on the mom's boyfriend as much, but it seems clear that he's an extremely likely suspect. Though I have my suspicions about the mother's involvement, too. I once lost my toddler for a few seconds, and it did not take me most of an hour to search the house for her. When your kid is missing, you can get that done in under a minute. Now, I don't know how long the trip from work back to the house was, but we know it's got to be somewhere in the neighborhood of fifteen minutes to half an hour in those weather conditions because that's roughly how long it had been since she last saw Leigh before calling. So, you're telling me this woman called home, got no answer, let's be generous and say that it took half an hour to get home, and she then spent the rest of the half-hour searching that very ordinary-sized house for her kid before calling the cops? Nope, something fishy happened.
The mother claims it was her first time leaving Leigh alone, yet the neighbors say otherwise, and the fact she had a special way of calling Leigh when home alone. While everyone was looking for Leigh, her mother told the father that nothing was wrong, just that Leigh might have run off, plus the people in town saying her mother was seen at a car wash the night before.
@@crochetingcanuck She got to work, immediately called Leigh because she felt something was wrong, no answer, then left work a little later because the storm had come and she couldn't remember if she left the door open.
I'm guessing that the Mother was jealous of her daughter. The Mother had separated from husband number 2 and he was apparently sexually assaulting the daughter...she most likely blamed her daughter for being young and pretty and seducing him. Stupid woman putting her daughter's nightie in the laundry basket with blood splattered on it...the girl wouldn't have done that while she was attacked and bleeding, and very very very few men would think about stacking laundry neatly before driving off with a corpse! They rarely think about picking up their own dirty clothes or wet towels off the floor on a normal day, let alone when in a hurry in a crime scene!
Watching Monday, 2/27, at 5.30PM (central time), and no audio with this video. :/ Never experienced this before on this channel. I'll try to watch again tomorrow and hopefully there'll be sound. Thanks.
Poor girl. Rest in peace. Quite a few clues are given in this case. First the hurricane. Would a stranger bother attacking in such weather conditions? How could the perpetrator possibly have known that there was a little girl left without childcare? People usually look after themselves in such circumstances, worry about others and stay together. I find it very unlikely for any stranger to strike on that day. Well, never say never. Secondly, why the heck someone would have sent the binoculars to the stepfather? What's behind it? Why not send them to the mother or biological father? There's something behind it. I don't like to point fingers at anyone but from the very beginning, it looked obvious to me that it was someone from the circle of the girl's relatives. I would say the mother and if the mother didn't send those glasses then I would check if the stepfather had no enemies. I find it strange that one sent them to the stepfather instead of someone else. Doesn't make any sense. You only do it if you want to point to someone, turn attention or show that everything happened because of them. I just hope that this case will be finally solved. Regards
The mother. Seems like she is one of the large group of women that envy/hate their own daughter. Why they do I don't exactly know but my best guess is that when their daughter is young and growing into a young woman they hate it because they feel old and don't get attention like they used to. I believe there are many unsolved murders out there that could be solved if they simply would look at the women that were involved with the victim more closely.
@@bkitteh6295 yup. I've known guys whose dad's forced then to play hockey to live vicariously through them. Maybe it's the male version of what op is saying?
That long? She was a 13 year old girl who was going to be home alone for an hour. At that age girls in the 90’s we were babysitting 3 and 4 kids, well past dark while the parents went out to dinner and a movie. At Leigh’s age, 13 is plenty old enough to be home alone for a few hours.
@@01SaltyWitch right? This comment comes from a pretty sheltered mind. Also, kinda victim blame-y. People shouldn’t murder kids. Whether they’re sleeping in the room next to their parents (happens) or whether they are home alone for a few hours, or whether they are playing in some playground somewhere. My son is 12, he hangs out at home by himself regularly, because he would prefer that, than to follow me around the shops, or come walk the dog with me. I myself am a few years younger than Leigh, but grew up in the 90’s and was home by myself a heck tonne, from about 7yrs old.
Showing up to school covered in bruises, unhappy at home, theb theres the lie of Vicki saying that Morning was her FIRST time ever being home alone when it wasnt. The grandparents lived down the road and saw her enter the home alone after school while her mother was at work. The Mother sent the glasses to act as a red herring detterent from her. A stranger would not be so careful when sending glasses. Why would they care? Especially back then? Also the culprit/s seemed to know the home and they knew Leigh was home alone that Morning. Why couldn't Vicki answer the questions by law enforcement properly and fail three lie detector tests. The Father Donald even suspects his ex wife. Donald's right, there wouldn't have been enough time to hurt and abduct a child in an hour and still have time to clean up before the Mother came home. Mike Oscar is disgusting I agree, but it appears he didnt murder, he wds a sexual pervert but not a killer. He deserves prison for life. He refused to speak about Leigh because he knew Vicki was involved.
It seems very sus is b looking at the mother 6minutes is not long for some stranger to take her, so either mother knows more or someone that new the family very well
Kidnappers should be in prison for life with no parole until they die and they can’t do it again. This guy was let out and he did it again. Who knows if he committed other crimes
Her Dad believing she was killed the nught before is wrong or the blood wouldn't have been wet which would've been very suspicious! Plus any innocent person can fail a lie detector test which is why they're not admissable in court. Not defending that Vicki is innocent but just stating facts. She also wasn't reported to have any wounds on her either which their most likely would've been. Ppl can be killed or taken from their homes in under 5min but my question is who all knew Leigh was going to be home alone that morning? That's where I would start looking!
So they never did find her body? How horrible. I hope they did a thorough search through Mike’s house including hidden rooms and doors and walls and basements etc.
Basing my opinion after watching this video I’d put Oscar Kearns as the number 1 suspect, especially with his history of violence against females and the fact that Leigh and Vicky knew him. My number 2 suspect would be the mother Vicky. With that said, another innocent child lost to senseless violence. 😔🙏

It’s still the mom’s fault because she left her daughter alone at home and because she let her daughter spend time with a man alone on more than one occasion, I dont care if its horse related, the man was not castrated so he was a fully functional male so anything can happen and that is the mentality moms have to have in this day and age or dont have kids.
Her mother should be ashamed of herself. Above all, protect your child. Her mother should have questioned the bruises and anything and everything. Leaving a young girl home alone is STUPID!
I for one, do not believe it was Mom. That monster from the church is MUCH more likely and thanks to our ever bumbling justice system, he was given opportunity. Disgusting. That poor girl. It is the stories of missing or murdered children that are the absolute worst.
Where have you gone in life that you have entered the gutterhole to the point of killing a Child??😢

I wonder what the odds are that the The first time you leave your child at home something ends up happening to them that just sounds suspicious to me
This is so strange... No answers... I feel for the family 😥
I find the mother calling home soon after leaving suspicious like trying to create an alibi
Because mom had just learned that a storm, which she thought was passing them by, was in fact going to hit the neighborhood after all? I was what was once called a "latchkey" kid, and my mom 100% would have called me in that situation.
Polygraphs aren't reliable though
Hid the body and later took her own life
The issue is there is little evidence, no body. No known motive, and the mother give give a good lead of some other known guy in their area could of been the killer.
Well said. The crime is almost beyond belief.
The inventor spent years trying to discredit his machine because he knew it was unreliable because all it would take is blood pressure problems, heart problems, or breathing problems to get a false positive or negative
To identify that skull as hers to only later retract that is awful…
Horrifying! I've never heard of that happening before. Mistakenly assuming? I can imagine that, but misidentifying the skull AFTER they've compared the dental records? ?? Ghastly...
Occhi is the Italian word for eyes - how interesting in a case where no one has set eyes on this young lady for 30 years!
What's even more interesting is how do you get an Italian who's a Lutheran?
🙄
We know from many cases that an hour is more than enough time to commit a crime like this, I'm also sure that blood from a violent assaut the previous night would not be hard to distinguish from blood that was only an hour old.
It really does point to the mother a lot I think, but I don't have all the facts. Seems like whoever did this will go unpunished.
This is an excellent channel, so well documented and narrated
Such a beautiful girl a tragedy all round
This is such a sad case.
So tragic Vicky got away with murdering her daughter. I hope some form of justice comes to her.
Almost as concerning as whoever named a street "Honey Locust"
This mother is more than suspicious!! Why on EARTH wouldn't she mention anything about the blood smeared all over the house when she spoke to Leigh's father?!? That woman is pure evil.
Such a tragic story. Thank you for sharing 🧡
Where was the letter postmarked from?
Vicki is my main poi
It is someone that family knows. Someone close enough to know that Leigh was going to be alone for the first time that day. Seems like Leigh must have let them inside, not suspecting a thing. I shudder to think about what that innocent little girl endured. Hope to god they find this monster and throw the -book- *entire library* at them.
That guy Mike sounds very suspicious.
Why would the grandparents be travelling to pick up their granddaughter Leigh in a bad storm?🤔
Why WOULDN'T they feel compelled to pick her up/come stay with her so that she wouldn't be alone in a big storm? My grandpa would have been 💠compelled💠 to do that, knowing I was home alone❣
I think the mother did it because she blamed her daughter for the breakup in her relationship with the guy who was abusing her daughter.
Excellent coverage of this sad case. Leigh's parents must continually grieve. Surely her mother didn't kill her.
She did.
Ok I'm confused. I thought she was at work for an hour before deciding to go home, and only spent a few minutes looking before calling police.
@@crochetingcanuck She got to work, immediately called Leigh because she felt something was wrong, no answer, then left work a little later because the storm had come and she couldn't remember if she left the door open.
Another fantastic video thank you
No-one else's DNA was found in the house? Seems rather odd.
So sad. RIP.
All these locals waited until her disappearance too come forward with child abuse allegations against her. How did that help her?
Watching Monday, 2/27, at 5.30PM (central time), and no audio with this video. :/ Never experienced this before on this channel. I'll try to watch again tomorrow and hopefully there'll be sound. Thanks.
;) Re-visited this video at 5.50PM, on 2/27, and there's now audio. :) Love your channel.
It's a very sad case. Poor Leigh. Tragic end to a young life.
Agreed.
Same thing that came across my mind. This could have been staged
That's what my old boss was like. She liked her own kids to be miserable so she could swoop in and feel important.
@Brian Allison What a truly bizarre idea. Is this something that men routinely think of doing to their sons??
@@bkitteh6295 yup. I've known guys whose dad's forced then to play hockey to live vicariously through them. Maybe it's the male version of what op is saying?
not saying it was vicky, but if it was her, it would make sense for her to send an enigmatic clue to get the investigators off her neck
This is heart breaking!
RIP little Leigh
But the kidnapper never killed anyone as far as we know. It's like the mom just conveniently found someone to blame.
Amazing with the amounts of blood found... They weren't able to find anyone else's
Such a sad lesson to never turn your back let alone leave for that long.
I just can't imagine going through this. Your daughter, your miracle little girl! Gone. And injured. I'd be literally sick with worry. Terrifying.
This is certainly one of the craziest stories ever!
A very sad and heartbreaking tale.
You can't even mention a polygraph in a US courtroom. The mere mention may even be grounds for a mistrial.
Very interesting story. Thanks for sharing.
So sad.
Sad, sad story. I feel so bad about children getting kidnapped and murdered.
I was quick!
Family and Friends and Victims Love 💘 ❤ 💙 💔 💕 💗
Normally I wouldn't complain, but you used German WWII soldiers when talking about American Army soldiers.
Basing my opinion after watching this video I’d put Oscar Kearns as the number 1 suspect, especially with his history of violence against females and the fact that Leigh and Vicky knew him. My number 2 suspect would be the mother Vicky. With that said, another innocent child lost to senseless violence. 😔🙏
Getting slapped on the wrist both times he was caught! He definitely has more victims. Raping a woman in front of her spouse. Evil cuss.
If Donald knows who is responsible why doesn't he say who it is
Bcoz he has no proofs, what he knows means nothing, and we all know who did this anyway

I keep saying these judges keep letting these animal's out so what we have more killings over n over again.
Poor sweet angel!
Could the stepdad not have sent himself the glasses to make it not look like he was guilty?
She was a lovely girl; may she RIP
I am sorry, but this innocent's girl died that night. Parents clean up . I have seen it as a pattern. unknown killers don't clean up your house.
Her mom seems a bit suspicious in my opinion
Her mother should be ashamed of herself. Above all, protect your child. Her mother should have questioned the bruises and anything and everything. Leaving a young girl home alone is STUPID!
Not so much in 1993.
Can anyone tell me the name of the plant with beautiful white flowers just after the glasses were received please?
is it just me or did you guys tweak your intro music??
I for one, do not believe it was Mom. That monster from the church is MUCH more likely and thanks to our ever bumbling justice system, he was given opportunity. Disgusting. That poor girl. May God be with her wherever she is, and taking "care" of her abductor as well. I'm sure he is reaping what he sowed in some fashion by now...thanks DC🙏💔🦌
I wonder why an outsider would have the trouble to clean the blood. Doesnt make any sense.
Evidence points at the Mother but it seems everyone wants to blame someone else.
