    I love that you’re ready to put that vulnerability out there! Like… yes to all of it! I hate to tell ppl my “maybe plans” because I don’t need to be shut down or given advice about something I’m just just trying to get off my chest and into the universe at that point in time. Love your plans videos!

    I LOVED today’s video! You can do anything you decide - you are that kind of girl. I’m 74 and know a thing or two about women (I have raised 3) and worked in HR in the corporate world for years. You are the woman that always works out any direction you decide to go. Just begin! I enjoy your channel so much.

    Everything you said was right on. I recently went to a goodwill that sells stuff by the pound. I bought a lot of denim jeans and fabrics. I brought the stuff home, sorted it and washed it all. I cut up the jeans as swatches as best I could, and the plan is to turn it into a giant sheet of patchwork fabric. I have no idea what to make, but I feel it will be fabulous. A sewer and her fabric have a very special bond. 😉

    I used to be much harder on myself for not doing all of the many projects that I planned, but I, too, enjoy all of the steps involved in researching and planning. It really is a useful exercise, in itself. It grows and feeds my creativity, and I bet it does so for you, too. It’s all part of the creative process, and I really enjoy following along in your process.

    Love your plans, here for them! While Australia is going into Autumn and Winter, I live in the Northern regions which is near the equator line, close to Asia. It barely gets below 30 degrees Celsius here in winter. So I long for the northern hemisphere going into spring and summer every year because that’s where I get the greatest inspiration year round - yes to all the feminine and floaty dresses and tops. Funnily, not that there’s remotely any comparison to your architectural history, but I was studying a bachelor of architectural design back in my thirties, while working in the field for a decade. But I fell pregnant with my second child in my third year. Then I had my third son while trying for a girl😂. I never went back to architecture. But I see it in the analytical way I tackle the design and construction of a garment - the testing, the fitting, the moulding, the building. And now I completely understand why I love your videos, because you are an architect, and you bring that expertise into your garment projects and how you “show” the construction of your projects to your viewers. Thank you for showing that to us😊.

    Thank you for showing us ALL your plans🥰 Creative agility! That must be a thing. It’s the story of my life. A few of the creative things I’ve tried, I’ve become really good at, and my family is really glad I took the chance. And so am I! I feel like designing a house to build is very low risk and practically free, and also very rewarding emotionally, so that sounds like a win. And doing some designing for your current place, though a little more costly in time and money, can also have a really big payoff. Take the risk and invest yourself in things for your home no matter how temporary. That’s my unasked-for advice😬

    Casey, I love your attitude toward the creative process. There is so much emphasis in our society on product over process. It’s the process that brings forth a beautiful product…even if it’s weeks (years) down the road. I dislike the term “sewing fails” for the same reason. When things don’t work out as we intended or imagined, we should learn, make modifications, and give it another go. We might even learn that the style of pattern we chose doesn’t suit us. The fail is when we fail to learn. I love listening to your creative plans and hearing your thought process as you work through your ideas. 💕

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому +1

      That is so so true! Honestly, I think being off of social media has helped me enjoy the process so much more, instead of just producing more to share for likes. Many moons ago this happened. Two years after my husband and I married (I was 21, he was 23), we designed and built our first house. We knew nothing but we learned. We moved into part of the house about a week before our first child was born. 12 years later, we designed another house with the idea to live there for awhile, finish it, then sell. Then came another one. After that because we are kind of crazy, designed and built two more as a business on spec. After a bit of a break, maybe 10 years, we designed and built again. I'm tired just thinking about it 🙈. We both worked full time all the while. My husband is ready to retire and wants to build again. I said nope, I'd rather sew. 😀 All this to say we knew absolutely nothing, hadn't even built a bird house but we did it (mostly him, but it really took us both). Big trick is finding the right property at the right price, finding good trades people and sheer determination. I'm sure you'll be successful in whatever you decide to do. I really enjoy all your videos and look forward to seeing some house projects. I need to do some also.

    • @leannsews
      @leannsews Рік тому

      @@PatternScout Let me say if you do this it's not easy. There are roadblocks along the way, some big, some small and you have to roll with the punches. I was the one who dealt with contractors when things were going sideways, so I'll tell you someone has to be the heavy so be prepared for that. The utilities, water, sewage are sometimes a battle depending upon if the land is rural or urban and towns, building regulations or banks can throw you a curve ball. It's hard work and we did lots of physical labour but in the end it's very satisfying and you will be proud. The only advice I would give, and I had to constantly reign in my husband, is be realistic. He wanted to build 'gone with the wind castles' with two staircases. You know, one for going up and one for coming down. Every curve, every circle, every vault etc adds up, but being an architect, you already know this. Good luck and YES it definitely is doable. I'll be interested in your journey.

    'Creative agility'! I love it -- it's a perfect term! I feel so much unnecessary guilt for having way too many creative interests and ideas and not being able to fulfill them all. But you're so right -- there's nothing wrong with just playing with ideas. That's the way the creative brain works, and it's probably really healthy for it. And those ditzy florals are so pretty. I've never ordered from Minerva before, but that might change soon...😉

    If you do end up building that home: put as many electrical outlets as you can (following the circuits’ capacities of course)!
    My bf is an electrician and re-did the whole house - and while he did NOT think about storage (typical!), he did put many electrical outlets, especially in the kitchen! It’s so nice not to have to unplug small appliances after each use!

    • @katherinebrockhoff8476
      @katherinebrockhoff8476 Рік тому

      Good advice! Lots of electrical outlets is really nice to have. We added outlets inside key lower cabinets in kitchen (charger for wine opener, etc ) and bathroom (hairdryer and curling iron).
      Designing a tiny jewel of of a home would be great fun. I’m not an architect, but I have acted as general several times and for us, it was worth the work. I grew up in the Trades and have family & good network of subcontractors, so not recommended for most people. It’s like herding really big cats with a cell phone! Would love to see Casey’s architectural design process in action.

    A heads up on that particular Lutterloh pattern. The black mannequin symbol means it's suitable for plus size which means it has extra ease. Recommendations for non-plus sizes is to go down four 'holes' on your tape when drafting. I made the top from that page and the pattern has a built in FBA which I had to take out (I'm 34 B).

    We are currently prepping our house to sell so we can downsize to a smaller house. Appearantly it's a sellers market right now which is great on one hand, there will likely be a bidding war for our house that will drive up the selling price. On the other hand, we'll have to engage in a bidding war to buy our new house lol. Also, home ownership is a pain. Don't even talk to me about new roofs or windows. Or squirrels moving in and destroying the insulation in the attic. Not to dissuade you, renting is also a pain. Just start a furnace replacement fund now because it will break down in the middle of January, it's inevitable.
