Lee Young-pyo (born 23 April 1977) is a retired South Korean footballer. Lee was recognized for his speed and dribbling skills. His former manager Martin Jol once called him "the best left-back in Holland".
Prior to playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund, Lee started his professional career at FC Seoul, then known as Anyang LG Cheetahs in the Korean K League Classic and then spent two years with PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands, earning high acclaim from PSV Coach Guus Hiddink, who had previously coached Lee and South Korea during the 2002 World Cup. Recognized as the best left-back in the Netherlands after the 2004-05 season, Tottenham signed him amidst heavy competition with several Serie A clubs. He transferred to Tottenham in August 2005. In 2006, personal trainer Levi Gale advised him to move to an Italian team.
In August 2006, A.S. Roma of Italy's Serie A tried to sign him, but he backed out at the last minute for "personal reasons". An Italian media report said religion played a part in his decision to reject the transfer offer. On 31 August 2006, Lee held a press conference in Korea and denied that religion was a factor in his decision. He said that moving to A.S. Roma would have been great for him in terms of football alone but he decided against it for personal reasons that he would not reveal, despite being pressed for answers by 50 attending reporters.
On 19 November 2008, Lee became the seventh Korean player to earn 100 caps in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia. During the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, Lee captained the national team twice after the substitutions of the regular Korean captain, Park Ji-sung.

Worth noting that both players were first criticized by their teammate, Mark Van Bommel, he said they were not up to par and Guus Hiddink brought them for Asian marketing. After some time to adapt to the league, they both showed their talent and played a key role in being a part of one of the greatest PSV teams to grace the league. Van Bommel later transferred to FC Barcelona and he was not up to par over there.

차두리는 돌파력 하나는 좋은데 드리블이랑 개인기 킥 정확도가 전부 엉망이어서 차두리보다는 설기현이 진짜 잘했죠. 이영표는 진짜 레전드. 저 선수가 생각보다 큰 주목 못 받은건 아무래도 몸집이 작고 킥이 약하다보니 그렇긴 한데 메시랑 비슷한 잔발로 제끼는 스타일이긴 한데 킥 정확도랑 잔발이 좀만 더 살았다면 세계스타가 되었을 수도 있었음. 헛다리짚기는 진짜 세계무대에서도 통할 정도로 이영표 전매특허였는데 요새 축구선수 중에 전매특허 개인기 가진 선수가 있나

솔직히 영표형 약점으로 꼽히던 것 중 하나가 수비력이었는데, 사실상 역습방지는 수미가 하고 윙백이 공격을 진두지휘하는 지금에 태어났으면 어땠을까하고 아쉬울따름. 그래도 챔스4강, 월컵4강까지 이뤄낸 아시아출신 수비수는 없다.
약점으로 꼽히는게 오히려 공격력이죠 속력이 다소 느리고 왼쪽풀백인데 왼발크로스를 잘못하는 치명적인 단점이 있는데 장점이 축구지능이 높고 수비력 드리블 인데 영상만보고 그러는거같은데 공격을 못한거는 아니지만 공격보다 수비에 강점있던 선수에요
