  • Join us in this Adventures in the Dye Garden where we introduce you to one of the workhorse plants of the dye garden: Weld. We take you through the process from planting seeds to dyeing yarn.
Weld (Reseda luteola): Also known as dyer’s rocket or dyer’s weed, this biennial native of Europe and Western Asia has been used since at least 1,000 BC to color textiles a clear, bright, sunshiney yellow. We use this dye material all the time, to make not only yellows, but a variety of greens as well.
Growing weld is easy (perhaps too easy as it is considered an invasive plant!), but takes a while to mature for its full dye potential. In this video, we take you through an 18-month process in 12 minutes.
As always, we love to hear from you! What questions do you have about natural dyeing or working with naturally dyed fibers? Comment below with questions and suggestions!
