I tried my hands at this about a year ago. I have a self made anamorphic lens. Well... let's say it works sometimes. The squeeze is strong with this one. Anyway... I put it in front of the Polaroid now. I got some clear shots, but I gave up since there were too many fails. Nice to see a better version! Also, I used the anamorphic lens on a Panasonic M5 VHS Camcorder and that looked amazeballs! You should try it too, with your Retro obsession. Also, the lens blur cleans up a lot with higher Aperture, so maybe you should try more light?
Oh damn that sounds awesome! And yeah it definitely seems like vignette at the very least benefits from narrower f-stops. I found in flash situations it really shows severely. More experimenting to come!
That is a really cool technique! As for the digital side, most polaroid images are shared digitally at this point. Great content as usual- thank you for my fix!

Reminds me of a DIY I came across years ago to get macro photos, except it was for the cameras on phones, well before companies even thought to make anything for phone photography; pop the lens from a disposable camera out and fashion it in some way of your choice to place over the phone's lens.
It was amazing to see how close you could get, but just like you experienced, it was trail and error with distance, but once dialed in the center was nice and sharp with dream-like focus around the edges.

This is awesome! To your point about anamorphic on stills, used the "relatively" cheap Surui anamorphics to do a digital Xpan thing with my X-T30. Lens is still pretty chonky but the workflow isn't bad.
Siriu was nearly a sponsor for an anamorphic video but they folded when I wanted to feature their lenses more than their lights - maybe some day soon!
I seem to have contracted Polomorphia from watching this video. I am actually enjoying my wider view of the world❤.

Have you tried those battery-powered Spectra adapters for square film? They seem pretty streamlined function-wise and copies seem more available than before. I know that's reviving the Spectra *camera* more than Spectra *film*, but yeah, seems neat.
I have toyed with one but unfortunately haven’t run film through it properly, they’re very difficult to assemble but an interesting concept at the very least!

nothing beats the colors in spectra film though for me. theres some packs sitting in my fridge now that probably aren't even good anymore that i just can't bring myself to shoot 🥲
