CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The cruise liner scrapes the side of the oil tanker, narrowly avoiding an explosive collision.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Indications were that this action sequel was in trouble before production began, when the male lead from the first film, Keanu Reeves, declined a role in the follow-up. Sandra Bullock returns as Annie Porter, an accident-prone ditz who is thrilled when her boyfriend Alex (Jason Patric) presents her with two tickets for a cruise ship vacation to the Bahamas. The trip is a peace offering presented because Annie has just learned that Alex is a police officer who's been lying to her about his choice of profession. Little does the happy couple know that the disgruntled John Geiger (Willem Dafoe), designer of the ship's computer system, has plotted a violent takeover of the vessel and a diamond hijacking that puts everyone on board in mortal danger. Being the dashing police officer he is, Alex leaps into action and tries to stop Geiger, but not before the ship crashes at top velocity into a Caribbean port town. Sandra Bullock agreed to star in this flop of a sequel in order to get financial backing for a pet project, Hope Floats (1998), a low-budget drama that turned a healthy profit.

I have to agree with the fact that this movie COULD have and SHOULD have been better. This scene is incredibly well done. The anticipation of the liner getting closer to the oil tanker is incredibly nerve racking, and the actual collision scene is intense. I love the different angles we are shown to see the scale of the collision. Yes, the movie is a mess but this scene alone is very entertaining to watch.
It had so much potential. The premise is cool, there’s a couple of top notch actors, but they flubbed it.

The port propeller wasn't working. That's why they had to turn the starboard wheel because the propeller on that side was still spinning.

Love the music, and the build up. This movie could have actually been great if Keanu came back (no offense to Jason P) and if the studio let the film be rated R rather than tone it down to PG-13 because the budget was so high. This film needed the brutality of the first film to make you take it seriously, it's hard when it's so family friendly. This sequence is the best part of the film.

Wouldn't the boat keep turning since they didn't turn the wheel back to its original position?
They didn't turn the wheel, they turned it by manually using the bow thrusters (the two guys who are taking turns and turning that small wheel).
The point being, they didn't turn the thruster back, so why didn't the ship keep turning?
JöMinör hahaha bow thrusters have no effect above 6 knots. They wouldn’t really turn if it was real life.

I never will understand why so many people disliked this movie. Even without Keanu Reeves, it boosts a fair amount of tension and suspense. Like, can they stop the ship before it crashes into an oil tanker or anything else? I just hope time has been kind to it over the years.
Probably the unrealism or lack of entertainment because they just hit a literal oil tanker. (and no I have never seen the movie)

For anyone who has seen 2 large ships make contact this clip is just to dump, just a small bump between 2 ships that are this heavy will do damage, let alone 2 ships ramming at this speed.

The Director truly rushed this film and since it’s the same guy who did Speed and Twister, sheesh no wonder and directly after Twister too a year later. Plus they should’ve added more plots, deleted scenes and bad guys in this film instead of only Dafoe being the main villain but I guess they didn’t want to copy Under Siege (1992) at all lol. Steven Seagal would’ve been pissed especially to see that in this film.

I actually used to love this film when I was younger, but to be honest it's actually pretty crap. It's worth bearing In mind it's only about action, because in reality it's full of inaccuracies about how ships really work. This particular scene highlights two such inaccuracies, one being that bow thrusters are driven by either an engine or electric/hydraulic motors, not a hand-cranked wheel. The other being that bow thrusters usually have little or no effect if the ship is moving, particularly at more than around 2-3 knots.
Tbf, I still find this movie enjoyable. And I say this despite being a ship enthusiast.
On the other hand, the first Speed was also 100% action, but it was really good!

"Speed" in a large crusie ship; a submarine would have done more justice, 'least there's bubbles for relativity.
Least the crash was legit; burned up a quarter of the $110 mil budget.

Hollywood made 4 big budget ship/boat themed disaster movies in 90s. Three movies didn't do well, while last one was all time blockbuster.
The three movies that didn't do well at box office are Waterworld (Yet I Loved Movie), Speed 2(Not entirely bad movie), Cutthroat Island (bigger flop than Waterworld, considering that Universal recovered Waterworld investment through its theme park, which was huge success).
The All time Blockbuster was Titanic

They should have had 2 or 3 different chases in this sequel going on at the same time, another on the highway, one on a ship, and another chasing the villain. It could've worked instead of this.

I don’t get all the negative reviews on this movie by people. Every one always wants that same spark of magic that brings the original movie of any franchise to life. It has been my observation that very seldom does a sequel, or a remake come close to the original. Sometimes that is the case. Lethal weapon, die hard, rococop, terminator, and oh yes John wick!!!!! But for cryin out loud people give it a rest. Turn off your brain, your mouth, and just enjoy it for what it is. A couple of hours of fun at the movies. So what if it’s a bad plot. And as far a terrible cast let me just add that Jason Patrick is the grandson of the late great always hilarious Jackie Gleason!!!!! And Sandra Bullock must have seen something in it because she reprised her role from the original speed. Nuff said.!!!
I find it funny that the only place you could find decent clips was in the last fifteen minute section of the movie. Yeah, this movie really is a turd.
