We were thrilled to present the 85th edition of Samvad Session, featuring Amit Gupta, an accomplished Gecuite from the 2004 Electrical Engineering Batch, who has traversed the seas of innovation and engineering excellence. Amit's journey took him from Siemens in Germany to Kongsberg Maritime in Norway, where he currently serves as a Lead Engineer.
Amit Gupta's Academic and Professional Journey: Amit completed his Engineering degree from GECU in 2004 and pursued a Master's degree in Power Electronics from SGSTIS Indore. His thirst for knowledge led him to a Ph.D. program at GECU, focusing on Marine environments. With nearly 17 years of experience in Marine engineering, testing, and commissioning, Amit has proven his expertise in the field.
His Pioneering Roles: Amit's career began at Siemens in 2008, where he contributed significantly to projects such as India's first transformer less hybrid propulsion vessel, commissioned at L&T Chennai. In 2015, he expanded his horizons by moving to Siemens headquarters in Germany. During his decade-long tenure with Siemens' marine division, he held various positions, amassing valuable global exposure.
A Leader in Maritime Innovation: Transitioning to Kongsberg Maritime in Norway, Amit assumed the role of Lead Engineer. He oversees the design, development, engineering, and commissioning of various electrical, hybrid, and battery-powered vessels. His accomplishments include leading the engineering and commissioning of the groundbreaking Yara Birkeland, the world's first fully electric, automated, and unmanned vessel commissioned in 2021. He also played a pivotal role in the development of the Hyseas III, the world's first passenger ferry powered by hydrogen cells.
A Multifaceted Achiever: Amit's excellence extends beyond technical prowess. He finds inspiration in Hindi poetry and actively engages in various social activities. His contributions encompass assisting Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, supporting schoolchildren through NEEV, aiding those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and participating in the student rescue mission during the Ukraine crisis.
Recognitions and Achievements: Amit's achievements have earned him numerous awards for technical papers and projects. Most recently, he had the honor of being a keynote speaker and panelist at the World Marine Expo in Amsterdam in June 2023.
