Check and see if there is a freebie alert app in your area, I saw an add for some free fabric samples not far from me and I ended up receiving 4 large bags of similar kinds of samples. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to make with them but Christine, as always, has given me some great ideas.
I really enjoy your tutorials. You are so good at explaining how to make the items. And I love that you recycle every little scrap, even the cuff of a sleeve. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Christine, . . He. your tutorials. Have just retired and I am intrigued by bag making. I would like to know what stock of interfacing I need to buy what thread to use? I received a small quantity of fabric off cuts from interior decorate and have made a few tote bags. Need plenty of help please. Love from sunny South Africa Lorraine
Hi Lorraine, I don't really favour any particular interfacing or brand. I tend to use whatever I have on hand at the time. With furnishing fabric, I rarely use any interfacing unless I think it needs more support, but then some people like floppy bags. I like working with upholstery fabric for that reason. When it comes to thread, I prefer to use Gutermann thread, and sometimes Rasant. I stay away from the really cheap quality thread as my machines don't like them, and the quality isn't very good at all. 😀
God bless ..i have watched this video serveral times and I have never done a vinyl bag..but I got me some vinyl and im going for it lolo these instructions are clear and as always christine you make it easy to follow instructions...thankyou be blessed
It was great to watch your video on how to get free fabrics and then watch this one and see the vinyl come to life as these lovely bags. Those metal labels were a worthy investment.
Beautiful! My grand daughter is heading back to college this week- I think I need to make one or 2. I'm going to add a strap on one side in case she needs to hang it - sometimes space is tight in the dorms. Thank You
Thank you, Christine! I was given fabric samples and I wanted to learn how to cut them to make two-toned pouches. Thank you for teaching me through this video! You are awesome!
Another great one, Christine. I get old slightly damaged vinyl purses in with the recycle stuff and I have only taken the hardware off and reused it but as usual you have inspired me to cut up the vinyl too. I have done the clear vinyl tote bags and they are great but I will add these as well. Thanks again.😀
Thanks Judy, I'm guilty of the same. I remove the hardware, and forget that I can reuse the fabric. Or do I just have too much fabric? Said no girl ever!! 😄
Thanks lori. I marked both sides so that I could match up the straight lines when sewing up as I wanted the contrast colours to line up underneath. I hope they sell well too, I've just finished 16 of them 🤪
They are really lovely. You instructions are really good. I need to find fabric and will try and make one lined with waterproof canvas. Thanks again and thank you for the lovely videos
Christine I love all the bags & the colors! I've never seen a 2 tone or 2 colors used to made a bag before. As always live your videos & you make it easy to follow along with. Thank you for making these videos ❤️🪡🧵
Love these Christine and wanted to say you E taught me well as when you clipped the lining and vinyl I literally said I think the zip is meant to be open then 30 seconds later you reminded us and yourself lol :-) they do look lovely in the two tone and with your fancy metal label
Hi I have made garments but never used a continuous zips before until now I will buy them this way from now on I have never made bags but I am now thank you for all your videos. I am going to make poo pouches there is lots of dog owners where I live. I am doing a craft fair in November.
THANK YOU! These bags are beautiful. I will be hunting for vinyl remnants at my stores. If you make any with straps/handles, please post a video of how to attach them. Again, thank you.
These are great. Another UA-camr and seller Jess from OklaRoots makes a similar bag, as do many folks. She calls it the snack bag. I mention it because she used PUL fabric for the lining which is food safe. Expensive fabric compared to cotton, but should be able to get more money for that. I think she gets $24 US but I think they are smaller. I love all these 2 tone bags because they are more interesting
Thanks Betty. I have another idea coming soon for food bags. I hadn't thought of PUL, but then my mission with this one was to use recycled/rescued fabric 😄
Hi Christine, I love your tutorials, they’re so clear and concise and best of all, make me want to sew! I love your new “Christine made it” metal labels. Could you tell where you got them please? I’m in the U.K. so no competition😎 Many thanks xx PS I also save fabric from land fill but your fabrics are much nicer!
I love these! And SO easy zipper tabs! I wish I had known how to do thhose when I first tried to do zippers (I have an irrational #fearofzippers - and this tutorial is part of the cure I think!) I'm off to find similar metal labels too - love them!

Is a teflon foot the same as an industrial walking foot? My husband did upholstery, after being a trucker for 23 years. His machine was a Tac Sew model with a walking foot all the time. He and his dad, and Mom were quite good at upholstery.
I'm not sure Patricia. I know I needed a teflon foot on both my domestic and industrial machines, but I believe the walking foot machines have something else😀
I love those bag ,they look expensive with that vinyl and name tag, they are awesome.I have never sewn vinyl do you need a special needle? Thank you for another easy to follow video
Thanks Eve. I just use a universal needle, usually 90/14 or 100/16. When sewing vinyl, you do need a teflon foot though. I've tried without, but it stretches the vinyl. A walking foot can sometimes work too if you reduce some of the foot pressure 😀
What size needle works best for these bags and do you use cotton or polyester thread? I have two bags of these strips and can’t wait to get started making these bags. Thank you.
Irene, I usually use 90/14 or 110/16 universal needles. Pretty much whatever is in the machine at the time. I use Gutermann polyester thread for most of my products 😄
Hi Karina, welcome! I just use regular Guterman polyester thread for most of my sewing. In this project, it's important to use a teflon foot, or a walking foot so the vinyl doesn't stick whilst sewing. 😀
I'm a little late to the party, but I ❤ your tutorials. I have one question on this one though. I've made a few of these, but can't seem to get the ends of my zippers to come to a nice angle. They more poke in at the sides of the bag, if that makes sense. Do you have a trick for this?
Tracey, try making the zipper tape a fraction shorter, and also when top stitching, only stitch from tab to tab. It might help when sewing the side seams. Hope this make sense😀
In the video directly before this one, I tell you how to go about sourcing free fabric which shows these swatches. Here's the link 😄 ua-cam.com/video/U0ZnIgDm00c/v-deo.html
I will have to hunt down some of those display swatches to make these. It's a great way to stop them from becoming waste at the dump.
It certainly is Dee. They're great to sew up as well 😀
