My husband shared this video with me sometime in 2019 and I fell in love with it. He has since passed away and this video appeared on my feed today. He’s talking to me. 💕
Okay I'm glad you said that I know you stated this a while ago but I just ran into this version of this song by Quincy Jones and you're right I did shed a tear LOL it's so beautiful especially if you know the song these performers are beyond good I grew up in a jazz family so this song was introduced to me by my dad years ago he was a saxophonist and flute player great song great performance the whole band is beautiful 🙏👍💪😁🎼🇺🇲
there is no finer musical harmony or rhythm ever put together that would surpass these ladies all others are good but this group would have to be at the top, their presents are untouchable.
I have been a musician for most of my life. I have always marveled at how Asians musician's technique were spot on. I had to compete against them a lot for gigs and one then you could count on was that they were not going to mess up. This is a great performance. I have always loved this song.
Jon, Their time is stiff and they didn't phrase the grace to quarter notes in bar 5 of the last A section. They should be separated (Damper) but they're played legato here. The original is my reference. The original what, 7-8 piece arrangements were an ingenious extension of the writing on Speak Like a Child. I saw that band live before mwandishi. Q ruined the tempo. Everyone should learn the Harry Lookofsky Violin Solo but playing someone else's solo note for note can be done with AI at this point. Would that impresses you? It's not classical or jazz, more like a very good junior high school concert. The lingo was "Music and shit" in 69 (there was no PC).
I put together a personal playlist of this tune, and after listening and saving about 20, I think this one was worth waiting for. A great performance, the passion and power of youth.
Has anyone heard EWF's Philip Bailey's Version? His vocals (the only one's I've heard) are laid back, mellow and pure jazz vocals... I think it's another compliment to Herbie Hancock's timeless Masterpiece!
LOVE THIS...LOVE THIS .....MS. LADY on the Bass marimba, playing that Harry Lookovsky solo.....note-for--note! She did not miss a beat! All of them....great musicianship.
Fun fact: That Harry Lookofsky solo from the Quincy Jones album is actually a Herbie Hancock solo, painstakingly transcribed then played and overdubbed by Harry several times to sound like a violin section. A genius concept beautifully executed by a master jazz violinist. In my opinion, the highpoint of Quincy's 1978 album "Sounds and Stuff Like That".
Awesome! The young Japanese ladies are a real delight to watch. They are so focused and talented. Wonderful rendition of Herbie Hancock's original. Bravo!
They did a great job covering the Herbie classic, but nothing comes close to Q's version. The orchestration and arrangement alone takes to another musical galaxy.
@@ivanking569 This is Q's arrangement which stays in 4/4 time. Herbie's original has a short section that switches from 4/4 to 5/4 for 4 bars and then back to 4/4. Also, Herbie's version is played at a faster tempo. ua-cam.com/video/tGxgeuJoCxY/v-deo.html
What a wonderful rendition to the classic by mr Hancock and mr q jones 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 even more to the amazing violinist harry loukosky who’d did this majestic recording one violin sounded like a complete orchestra so well done to this amazing group y’all did it proper and in order 👍🏽🎵🎶🎵🔥🥂🔥🎵🍾🎶🎵
I have had this song in my heart for many a year!! Never have I experienced this song more!!! thank you for coming together to share such wonderful and uplifting content!!! MichaelAngelo
This was a recommendation from UA-cam and I gotta tell you I was absolutely blown away when I played this track. Funcussion is incredible. Bedtime story is one of my favorite compositions and Funcussion burned it up.
No words, but BEAUTIFUL. MUCH RESPECT TO YOU. This is my FAVORITE SONG BY QUINCY JONES. I was 16 years old when this song dropped. OMG. thank you for playing this.
Love Quincy but let us be clear - this is a HERBIE HANCOCK composition!!! And his version in spite of all other really good ones I have heard, is still the one to listen to first.
Simply outstanding even down to the tempo ❤just simply breath taking……I would love to see this ensemble in person please tell me that this group has a fan base would love to hear more of there music….. so relaxing and enjoyable it takes one mind away and yet folds you into the music once again outstanding
An amaaaaazinnnng performance by one of my favs. It was a soul stirring performance that had me in awe throughout the song. It was a carbon copy of a classic hit that makes you evoke good feelings. Sayonnara 😊
This is brilliant. I love the Quincy Jones version written by Herbie Hancock, but this one is really really nice. Wow. Why am I just now seeing this? Smh
OUTSTANDING!!!! I heard Quincy Jones' arrangement(which is what this band played) before Herbie's original version. What's cool about Herbie's original version is there is a short section where the time signature switches from 4/4 to 5/4 for 4 bars and then back to 4/4. Quincy's version stays in 4/4. I prefer the newer version.
There is no fine of musical harmony or rhythm every put together that would surpass these ladies , all other are good but this group would have to be at the top. Their present is untouchable .

Unbelievable!! Herbie must be happy & proud of what they’ve done to his masterpiece
Tell me a bedtime story is music that can’t be done wrong. I love every version I hear. I never tire of hearing it.

Intensity plus grace equals passion. Im stunned. A very complex song to play let alone master. They friggin nailed it!

Those ladies on percussion are amazing beyond what words can describe.
I've loved this song since Herbie Hancock first released it 40+ years ago. I'm sure he is proud of this version. ❤️ those vibes.

Yes pretty impressive!

this is the Quincy Jones "version" the original is done by Herbie Hancock
Awesome! The young Japanese ladies are a real delight to watch. They are so focused and talented. Wonderful rendition of Herbie Hancock's original. Bravo!
As ronrico629 referred to- this was Quincy Jones arrangement....
She didn’t miss a note! Ode to Quincy Herbie and Harry Lookofsky’s brilliant solo
This is just as beautiful as the Quincy Jones version.
Of the several covers I've heard of this Herbie Hancock original, this is by far the best... right up there at the top with Quincy Jones' rendition.
And, being able to see them play only adds flavor to the flavor!
This is awesome. I love the Quincy Jones version but I’m falling in love with this version!!

+Michael Wilson This is a Herbie Hancock tune that Quincy covered.
Originally written by Herbie Hancock in 1969
I'm a fan of the song and now a fan of these ladies!! Wow!!
Nailed it!....EXCELLENT!!!!!
Awesome! Most people don't realize that the violin in Quincy's arrangement was transcribed from a Herbie solo, and perfectly duplicated here.
Terrific - thank you !
