    Leah, are you really talking and stitching in the ditch at the same time?? Man, you're good!! I have all kinds of contortions going on when I do it. TV off, music off, tongue hanging out the side of my mouth, elbows up. It's a real performance, I tell ya!! Quite funny when I think about it. Thanks so much and Keep up the good work. We are all benefiting from your knowledge! Your videos are always very good!

    Leah Day, you are such a good teacher. Thank you. I've been learning the art of quilting now for about a year. You are one of my favorite you tube, web site person to go to.

    Mastering this technique on an actual bulky quilt is a lot harder than on a single block. That's my main issue.... managing the bulk of the quilt as I go

      That's very true! I have another quilt along for the Rainbow Log Cabin that covers a lot more tips on dealing with the bulk and size of the quilt. You can find it here: leahday.com/blogs/machinequilting/rainbow-log-cabin

    I love your videos! My only note is please please please move the location of your captioning. It often blocks the view of what you're trying to show us. 😊

      That's automatic and placed by UA-cam. I have no control over it.

    You might have covered this and I apologize if I missed it but my question is when you stitch in the ditch do you stitch on the side or in the seam?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  7 років тому

      I stitch right in the ditch. Yes, I also press my seams open. :-) I piece with a very short stitch length of 1.5 mm and this allows me to press seams open and stitch right in the ditch without a problem.

    Hi Leah thanks for your explanation, so clear! I'm working on my first table top
    So, do you stabilize the borders before you quilt inside the block or you start from the centre?
    I am afraid to make a mess😬

      My best advice is to take a class that explains this on a bigger quilt, not a block like this video. Here is a class on walking foot quilting that will cover everything you need to know - leahday.com/products/mega-star-walking-foot-workshop

    I am learning SO much since I joined this block party. Which sole plate are you using for stitch in the ditch-#50 but without the ditch guide?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  7 років тому

      This is the normal zigzag sole plate on the Bernina 1230. I often move needle positions so I rarely use the center needle sole plate.

    can I stitch a quilt with a quilting needle?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  7 років тому

      Sure! Use any needle that works for your machine. If it skips or breaks thread, try a different needle until you find what works great all the time.

    Are your teeth up or down?

      I'm using a walking foot here so I have the feed dogs up and stitch length probably set around 1.5 mm.

      Leah Day the stitch length is on a Bernie what stitch length would you use on a Janome 7700?
