Say what you want, even after 15 years, 2 lakh kms this thing would work like a clock and wont cost a bomb in maintenance, just wait and see how these small capacity turbo petrol engines(Hyundai, Kia, Reno, VW, Skoda, Tata, Mahindra) keep up with age. If you plan to keep your car for 10+ years this should be your pick.
@Anonymous Para Brahma they do from day 1. They give you performance but also needs care every time you use the car. Unlike air aspirated engines, you can't drive turbos for very long in high environmental temperatures. After 2 to 3 hrs of driving you have give engine rest for 30minutes.
I am a proud owner of scross petrol automatic alpha model. All those who are thinking of this car don't get influenced by the negative comments. Go for it if you want happiness, comfort, space, excellent ride comfort. Regarding mileage iam getting 14.9 in city driving. Iam so happy
Guys I have bought zeta model of this beauty and genuinely I dont feel anything missing. Only major issue was the missing rear ac vents but I genuinely feel that their work is efficiently done by the front ac vents. Further ncap rates this car at 5 stars. And this petrol engine is a supremely refined engine one will love to drive. I suggest everyone to have a look at this car in this price segment.
Most ppl who commented below dont really know about cars. S cross is the stealthiest and one of the best built Indian cars. Rated 5 star in safety and priced very well for manual variants. Zeta manual at 9.99 lakhs is the best buy.

S cross is a wonderful car , it doesn't need to be feature rich like the Korean companies nor does it need to resemble a sports car , what matters is the price and what you get in it , the stability , the adequate power , the zippy feeling , the comfort , on Indian roads that are improving as time passes by it rides just like any other car which is 2-3 lakhs more expensive , hell the resale of this car is just as amazing as an Innova. All in all under rated and with a NCAP rating of 5 for adults its just the perfect car for an Indian middle class family.
The fuel efficiency of 18.5 kmpl is excellent for a vehicle of this size offering so much space. It is a true Value for money crossover and it's 180 mm ground clearance is same as XUV300 and only 10 mm less than Creta and Seltos means it can go on all roads wherever these vehicles can. The feature loaded Zeta variant @ 9.95 lakhs ex-showroom is about two lakhs cheaper on the road than comparable petrol variant of Seltos (HTK Plus) offering all these features and Creta (S model) offering only some of these features. Reclining rear seat available in S-Cross Zeta is provided only in higher Creta and Seltos variants costing 15 lakhs. But S-Cross is missing the option of a Rear AC vent. More than diesel engine, S-Cross is missing the option of a Sunroof which is provided in higher variants of Creta and Seltos costing over 15 lakhs on road.
My dad owns 1.3 diesel since 2016. According to it's one of the best purchase he made. Even though it's not feature rich but more practical car in the segment.

Safest amongst the Maruti Suzuki cars in India (I guess they had 5 star NCAP Euro rating), being less capable than most large cross overs and not having a real SUV/MPV stance went against this quite capable car..

That's the USP of Maruti Suzuki in India. They will obviously give more priority to Mileage. With unemployment, salary cuts , rise in fuel prices. People would definitely buy cars with high mileage irrespective of build quality
Maruthi you need to know it's 2020 and Indian people have 4G at their fingertips. Old school engine box and rebadging will not help you keep the 52 percentage market share. Please act immediately. Remember Nokia, Yahoo...please don't add your name to the list.

They are not competing with Creta and seltos. This is a crossover not a compact SUV. And Maruti has a good target market in the country irrespective of what they release in the market they somehow get 2000 sales per month and that's the lowest for them , but for some companies that figure is like their ultimate goal. So I still think this is a win win situation for MS

At the highest and most premium variants. Creta, Kia have many variants but they keep the best features, a a premium, in the highest variants. Sonet is sub-4 metre car. Mahindra after sales service and general reliability still does not match up.
1) a very very small section of the public uses their car over ten years. These are not the 1990s. 2) Yes turbos need slightly more looking after- like the need to give them a small rest after few hours. But the pluses in terms of performance and smoothness make up for any such clauses. The fact of the matter is, this car needs a physical and Powertrain upgrade. May not necessarily mean giving it a turbo, but this ageing engine and gearbox, lack of a good automatic, poor security (only 2 airbags!?), low boot space, absence of features ( rear AC vents and power sockets are now considered hygiene) and a lacklustre looking cabin (why plonk the wagon R touch screen on this expensive car??) continue to hurt S cross sales. This, my friend, looks like a car from the past.
i don't see the value this car is offering. People who are shopping for a car in this price range are aspirational. The front looks good but Maruti needed to add more features instead of cutting corners. People in this segment are looking for quality, not trying to save a few bucks. Maruti needs to come out its shell & try putting out a product they should be proud of. Practicality can't be an excuse in higher segments.
Nice review but I still request Autocar team to give a strong feedback to Maruti so as Maruti should be compelled to bring better automatic transmission for their cars... Maruti is just portraying itself as a company run by budhha (old tired) company. They can easily bring better and latest products..they are market leaders but offering boring products..same engine and transmission in many cars .. they will lose their leading position in some years
I had sold my scross 1.3 diesel after using it for less than an year. Severely underpowered!! You will get bored in time when there is no punch when you step on the accelerator unless you keep shifting down the gears.
I have driven the new 2021 S-cross for several months now. It's a perfect car for city use, even better than Brezza due to its ride comfort and interior quality. But if you're looking to take it on highways then DON'T buy this. The engine starts revving at over 2500 rpm/5th gear at 90 kmph steering feedback is not very confidence inspiring. Feels like it needs a 6th gear beyond that
Desperately needs a small turbo to help not only efficiency but performance. You really gotta de-tune a 1.5L DOHC 16v engine to only produce 105bhp and 138nm
Maruti considers Scross a premium offering but lacks premium features like a Sunroof, Wireless charging, it misses out even rear ac vents even small hactback gets now, 6 Airbags, Connected car tech, bigger infotaintment system. Maruti wakeup you're losing your customers
In this price range, Ertiga and Venue rules the Indian Car market.. Venue sales will go down drastically once Sonet is Launched. Kia is doing the same What Hyundai did with Creta to Seltos.
Great review as usual, but I don't think this car deserves the time and attention from an esteemed and refined review channel like Autocar. This car is DOA for sure !! Case in point , this car has the same features as the Maruti Ritz I used to own back in 2014 !! Come on Maruti we are almost in 2021....
Even though it's a bland car, it is quite good. And it definitely has more features than the Ritz Starting with the 5 star NCAP crash test and a lot more equipment like smartphone mirroring. It's a very good car for that money. It's just that they are a little late to the party. And again it's a little bland!!!
I am planning to buy s cross petrol hybrid engine car in nov 2020. Slight apprehensive about some issues 1) is this car compatible with external cng kit 2) how s cross is compared with hyundai verna.
I really miss the times when maruti used to make 1.6 petrol engines and driver focused cars like baleno (sedan) .... sad that they are providing such engine options now....
Maruti Suzuki It's time to upgrade now as compre to other rivels like hyundai, honda.they give more features like sunroof, ventilaed seats, poweful engineering and so on ...
Those who r talking about 5 star rating for scross forgot that 5 star was for Europe spec s-cross with curtain airbags and other top notch safety features. For india spac s-cross can not get more than 3 stars in any way...
I feel like only tech reviewer highlight the sunroof option as a downside 😅 in actual sell also you will notice there are very few people prefer sunroof model maybe 1 of 100 or 1000. So I don't think it's mandatory. Personally I think it is useless in India.
People want it as a status symbol and fad. Most buyers have no option but to keep it shut given the climate and pollution prevailing in most of India. And when the leakages, beading problems, motor jamming starts as the vehicle ages, it becomes a needless maintenance headache. Besides sun roofs are considered a safety hazard in roll-over situations. Given that sun-roofs are mostly being offered in SUVS/CSUVs which are more prone to roll-over due to their higher ground clearance, it is a concern. Why would I pay a good premium for a stylized hole in the roof of my vehicle !!!
if i am buying a an automatic will that be wrong decision when compared to manual in terms of power? What about the fuel efficiecny of automatic? Is that overdrive feature adequate to coverup that lag in sudden overtaking
Indian gov needs to wake up and stop putting 45% tax on car and 60% tax on petrol...then people can take care of their safety instead of milage and base price....
Do not need many gimmicky features that are not really needed or become niggles later on. Sun roof,-meh.....In the dusty, polluted, humid climes of most of India, will be kept shut mostly. And the scope for leakages, bead loosening, , jamming as the vehicle gets old. Sun roofs are very dangerous in roll over situations. Naturally aspirated petrol engine...okkkk .....it has linerar power delivery , better suited for city driving and lesser complexity for maintenance issues later. BS6 diesel engine emission control system can be a maintenance pain. Scross has the basics well sorted It has decent built and body shell standards. BUT it needs a better auto transmission , updated instrument cluster, more air-bags and ESP. that would make it much more alluring to many buyers wanting the comfort of a cross-over rather than a CSUV.
ciaz, scross, eartiga, xl6, brezza...they all have identical engine with same tuning. It seems that they are ignoring the fact that if you can't provide diff engine for diff segments of cars you should at least provide diff tuning for them. fooling people.
dead on arrival; good review trying to highlight with what this car has compare to what it doesn't. when a customer is going to pay a big 14-15 for an autobox, they will not even look at an geriatric box

They can easily bring better and latest products..they are market leaders but offering boring products..same engine and transmission in many cars .. they will lose their leading position in some years
Venue and Nexon at Same price is way better.
Only good looking car in Maruti's lineup after a very long time.
4 speed slushbox? what are we in the 1980s?
Who cares 4 or 7. End of the day they are giving better mielage with the electrical motor working in parallel.
Even with hybrid system it is only 18 point something?
Thanks for this review.
I had sold my scross 1.3 diesel after using it for less than an year. Severely underpowered!! You will get bored in time when there is no punch when you step on the accelerator unless you keep shifting down the gears.
Tin tin tin tinnnn - Britannia
Maruthi Suzuki - Sounds really good.
Is s-cross and brezza good car
True
In this price range, Ertiga and Venue rules the Indian Car market..
Venue sales will go down drastically once Sonet is Launched.
Kia is doing the same What Hyundai did with Creta to Seltos.
How is it compare to the old diesel??
My favourite car
Great review as usual, but I don't think this car deserves the time and attention from an esteemed and refined review channel like Autocar. This car is DOA for sure !! Case in point , this car has the same features as the Maruti Ritz I used to own back in 2014 !! Come on Maruti we are almost in 2021....
Even though it's a bland car, it is quite good. And it definitely has more features than the Ritz
Starting with the 5 star NCAP crash test and a lot more equipment like smartphone mirroring.
When they did nobody brought them!! Low sales were the reasons for their discontinuance.
What about price ?? A 10 minute video and nothing about price ? Strange !!
Have booked this Car but confused with the colour to chose. Please suggest from White, Nexa Blue or Granite Grey
Very good review.. really delighted
When will the SX4 SCross come to India?
Please give test drive of venue imt version
Better go for the automatic venue.. Many jerks while shifting gears.. Just an opinion
When is Kia Sonet first drive coming?
Mid September
Maruti Suzuki It's time to upgrade now as compre to other rivels like hyundai, honda.they give more features like sunroof, ventilaed seats, poweful engineering and so on ...
Bhai log fir bhi maruti he lenge
How is the engine, tyre and other noises while cruising at all speeds.
any idea about safety rating of Indian version?
I really wonder why Autocar haven't test driven Venue IMT.
Our review goes live on Aug 30! Stay tuned
@@autocarindia1 Thanks for the update.👍
Is it worthy to buy Scross ZETA AT? On Road is 13.5L... please suggest
It will be good to wait for Hyundai new i20
Those who r talking about 5 star rating for scross forgot that 5 star was for Europe spec s-cross with curtain airbags and other top notch safety features. For india spac s-cross can not get more than 3 stars in any way...
No idea what Maruti is thinking. Waiting for more Kias, Tatas, Fords and Jeep in under 10L segment.
Best car of suzuki in terms of vfm
Would had bought this if there was rear ac vents. For a car of this size, it's a must to have.
if i am buying a an automatic will that be wrong decision when compared to manual in terms of power? What about the fuel efficiecny of automatic?
Is that overdrive feature adequate to coverup that lag in sudden overtaking
Fuel efficiency comes at the price of safety and features...Indian customer needs to wake up and stop craving for fuel efficiency
I would go for the Tata Nexon over this..
I would with sonet over nexon
Ok
So switching from diesel to petrol. Does that mean price is also reduced? Sadly no.
The feel is just like CIAZ. Only the segments vary that's it.
ciaz, scross, eartiga, xl6, brezza...they all have identical engine with same tuning.
It seems that they are ignoring the fact that if you can't provide diff engine for diff segments of cars you should at least provide diff tuning for them.
fooling people.
It’s better build than tin can Ciaz
S cross 2020 vs Wrv 2020, which is better?
Do you think Maruti Scross will take a facelift in 2021?
dead on arrival; good review trying to highlight with what this car has compare to what it doesn't. when a customer is going to pay a big 14-15 for an autobox, they will not even look at an geriatric box
Maruti suzuki is still living in 2000. 20 years behind all other car manufacturers. Who is heading it ? My grandpa is more tech savvy than Maruti designers and engineers. Some lazy suckers waiting just for pensions.
