The tune is a piece Sharon Thormahlen wrote called The Confluence and it is in the music book called Gossamer Gate which you can access at our website music page. I made a harp that sounds like an orchestra harp but it is a Robinsons Irish harp which is not featured anymore.... anyway it has matured very well. I made the neck and pedestal from two oak 3/4th thick laminated together...the sides are of yellow poplar and the soundboard is 5 ply laminated aircraft birch 1/8th thick. It is 3 years old and as beautiful sounding as can be and its as strong as the time 3 yrs ago when it was made.
The song at the beginning of the video is called Confluence and is in the book Gossamer Gate which you can find on this webpage: www.thorharp.com/pages/GossamerGate.htm This tune is on our new CD Live From the Harp Shop: www.thorharp.com/pages/LiveFromtheHarpShop.htm And the tune at 5:48 is Song for a Whale which you can find in the book A Rose in Winter here: www.thorharp.com/pages/A%20Rose%20In%20Winter.htm
at 4:15 he states that their are no specification on making the harp and that is incorrect, their is a specifications on the string spacing, but not the body and look, other than that the harp sounds absolutely exquisite. the sound quality is stunning good job Dave I would buy a harp from you, as for harsdottir comment they definitely are better than Dusty Strings and Lyon and Healy, when a harp is made by a person and not a corporation it shows, support local harp makers!!
No, there are no specifications on the string spacing for a harpmaker to follow. Every harpmaker decides the string spacing according to what they think it should be. In fact, we have our own models of harps with 2 different string spacings. The Ceili has a tighter string spacing than our Swan which is a little wider. Other harpmakers have different spacings from each other usually measured in octaves and it ranges from 3 1/2" to 4 3/8 for the same octave. So Dave is correct in what he said.
the beautiful harp she plays at the end is so beautiful in its sound!
