My grandma was a farm woman and low income. She used to recycle Christmas cards with cutting a pic from it and using it as a Christmas tag next year. I do this some. It’s so fun. Now my sister does it too.
That's a great idea. My problem would be cutting up the card. I've saved every card I've ever received at least in my adult life and in almost 50. Yeah.
Context for getting rid of our air mattresses and having guests stay at a hotel: We are a senior childless couple who lives far from all of our family. It would be literally *years* between *anyone* coming to visit us. We are trying to seriously downsize and hopefully move to a smaller home as we enter our golden years. Given how rarely someone visits us, it just doesn't make sense to hold stuff and constantly pay for otherwise unused space for a "just in case", theoretical, once-in-a-decade, visitor (all of whom are also aging along with us😉). We live in a large city with dozens of hotels nearby. It just makes physical and financial sense to let go of the air mattresses.
My daughter took a card from her grandma and had the tattoo artist tattoo the signature, “Love, Grandma “ onto her arm. She loves it❤. I’m not into tattoos, but cut out my grandma’s signature and put it at the bottom of her picture in a frame.
You're so right. We have coffee daily but we always use one of 2 of the same mugs. We have quite a few that were gifted that I've been feeling guilty getting rid of.
I live in northern Calif. and it doesn’t snow here. But I have a snow shovel. The reason I keep it is because it’s the best type of shovel for wood chips! We have chips delivered every spring and it tears through that pile of wood chips so fast. ❤
Great suggestions for decluttering 🙏🏼 but FYI… canned foods don’t expire or at the least can be used several years after expiration dates. Manufactures are required to put a date on the can but they don’t necessarily indicate when the food is spoiled. As long as the can looks normal, not bloated, rusted, etc they’re fine. In fact, they have opened up cans from the 1800s and the food inside was perfectly edible. Yes, flavor can diminish but as someone who lives in a Hurricane prone area, I’m holding on to my cans as long as possible 🤷🏻♀️
My husband and I just became grandparents. I was dying when you said about your grandfather signing it Grump pa. That’s what we are calling my husband.😂😂😂😂 great video really good ideas
I take my expired meds to the hazmat department at the dump. Those little batteries (AA, AAA, etc.) go there too. As for the snow shovel, I live in California where it DOES snow. During the off season, it makes a great dustpan when you're raking your yard, which makes it a multi-tasker. I also use mine as a cane if there's snow out, so I don't fall.
We had cupboards full of over 100 mugs. In our last house move, we did a drastic purge of mugs down to eight mugs. It is wonderful using favorite mugs and not shuffling mugs around.
Thanks for your video! I have kept some cards and handwritten notes. I laminated them and use them as drawer liners. That way I have them but they are not necessarily taking up space. 🤷♀️
My daughter hoards books, supplements, and self-care products. I bought a big cabinet for the bathroom to store those (She has more piled up in the bedroom) She has 4 bookcases in the living room w/so many books that she will not be able to read in her lifetime and, yes she overflow in her bedroom and her daughter's room. She has 4 of those plastic rattan with 4 drawers in them and, of course, there's an overflow in her bedroom of supplements. I am going to declutter around her stuff. I'd keep the snow shovel. You can pick up piles of leaves and other stuff with them
I'm not one for amazon subscriptions, but I do have 1 subscription for mascara to be automatically sent to me every 3 months. Otherwise I'd never remember. Luckily I'm using inexpensive drugstore mascara.
I keep "this months" receipts and "last months" receipts in binder clips, - recycling "last months" at the first of the month and transferring "this month" to "last month"; with a separate binder clip of receipts for Winners/Homesense receipts. All my containers are the glass two cup size, so no need to figure out which lid goes with which container.
Decluttering paint cans is very difficult. A lot of the time the trash collectors won’t take it. It is likely the previous owners weren’t just being nice. Where I live you have to go to the dump and pay to get rid of your old paint
I love Plan to Eat! I have used it for years and have hardly any cookbooks anymore. All my recipes are in the app. I should probably declutter some of the recipes in there... 🙄
"Old Spice(s)" LoL That reminded me of my high school boyfriend who wore Old Spice. I couldn't stand the smell. The first chance I got, I gifted him some nice cologne.

I love that!
We did that in our family for years😂
@@catrinholmes7026 Same in my family when I was growing up!

My mum does this 😊
Binder clips are good for closing potato chip bags. They're called binder clips. I like the medium-size ones to clip food bags closed in the kitchen.
Good idea!
I do the same!
Yes! The regular chip clips are soooo flimsy.
I use wooden clothes pins. Works great 👍 👌 👏

Great idea! Symbolic treasures are definitely more valuable than dozens of sentimental items that end up becoming clutter…

Oooh, thanks!
If your cans are something you use generally, go in once a year with a new stash and use up the old one
I use a perm marker to mark on cans etc so I can see it easier (exp date)
Smart!
Use your Sharpie marker as soon as you bring home OTC or rx drugs. (I never thought about cans. Thank you for the tip.)❤
@@bettywolfe7502 love this idea thank you
I do this!!!!

Awww, I love my grumpa!
Thanks for the inspiration. I just decluttered my row of kitchen hooks by throwing away some rusty ladles.
Just donated extra linens to a shelter yesterday.I had loads of standard pillowcases ( I just use king size now).
Great show Jeanne!

my sewing room/fabric stash three weeks ago. What a breath of fresh air!!!
Yayyy!

Cherry pitter!!! A necessity for the job.

Thanks for the inspiration, just declutttered some old spices 😊

That's hard. There is a recycling place near us. I'd rather pay than have them kicking around if I'm not using them. What is the rate they charge?
Ha #1 out of the gate - no I can’t Declutter that yet 😂😂😂… then #2 yes! Curly girl fail products!! Same!
right?? Can't wait to chat all things curly and decluttering!

Omg, my husband and I went thru sooooo many products finding something for our curly hair 😅
It’s a tricky one! Glad you found something good!
I really enjoy all the information you share! Thank you! Love the yellow nail polish! What color is it?
Oooh! Thanks! I can't remember what the colour is, it's gel polish from the salon

I love that Silver Birch & Juniper candle scent, too! If it's the one from Indigo...?

I tear off the card front and put it in a book as book mark even when I give the book away.
Nice idea! 📚
Love, love, love removing our names from mailing lists.

Why not categorize? Jumping to different categories is confusing…and annoying. Otherwise, great suggestions.😊
Oh gosh, I can’t remember what section you mean 🤔
If you drink just right out of the "papa bear" mug, you might put an eye out.

Some spices develop bugs. It’s gross.😮
