    Thank you for your review but I thought I'd contribute to the discussion. I think one of the most important thing that people need to know is that Watercolor pencils are not meant to be used like traditional colored pencils. I've owned all three sets, and worked with all of them for over 10 years. I've been a pencil artist since college. I love both Museum and Supracolor as well as Albrecht Durer. If you use a light touch and do not draw heavy lines on the paper when you lay them down you will get rich gradient color. Layering colors brings out the luminescence. If you see lines after application it usually means your pressed too hard. This crushes the pigment into the paper and crushes the paper's tooth. It will not work properly after that. The lines will always stay behind after wetting. Everyone's "handedness," is different and most have to adjust to the properties of the paint or pencils they use. Painting with a lighter hand and working in close, small circles when applying the pencil will give rich, radiant colors that move very easily.......when you use quality artist pencils. However, all of the artist quality become permanent when they dry, so be certain you want what you put down or get surprised with a unique result. That's much of the fun with watercolor pencils. One serious codicil.....Keep in mind that less expensive pencils give different results. If you love painting and want to sell your work or simply share it with others, use a higher quality brand. In the end, it isn't less expensive to paint with a bargain product. You can buy small sets of These pencils and learn how to mix and layer. Many fine artists do exactly that. Artist quality that will do what you want and give you better results in the end. Why? Because they work differently, are far more saturated, and will do what you want far more easily. In short, you develop better skills, and the pencils last longer. It isn't a bargain if you have to replace a $1 pencil every 3 months compared to a $3.50 pencil every 2 years. Thanks again for the barrel comparison. I usually focus on the core size but you made a very good point about the pencil dimensions and core size. I now realize that I prefer Caran d'Ache because of the pencil size. I discovered that I have a narrow finger space so they fit better. You solved an issue for me that I've been thinking about for a long time.

      You have totally valid points here. Still, she is right, Supracolor is brutally expensive and Faber-Castel Albrecht-Dürer is artist grade, high quality product, and I'd pick it over supracolor any time. Interestingly, I use the three Supracolors as regular color pencils, they are excellent for that job, too.

      Thank you for sharing that info and your perspective as an artist! I would like to get a set of these, maybe for my birthday or a Christmas gift, but if I'm buying, my personal favorite are the Albrecht Durer pencils! Although I would rather use the Caran d'Ache neocolor II.

    Great comparison. I can save my money for something else. I love my Albrecht Dürer pencils a lot. Thank you.

    Interesting comparison. The watercolor pencils that I have been using are the Koh-i-Noor Mondeluz, which I really love (I used to quite dislike watercolor pencils and these were the ones that got me to like the medium at all) , the Faber Castell Color Grips and Goldfaber Aqua (and I am fairly sure that these are actually the same leads) and Albrecht Dürer. Because I has such good experiences with Caran d'Ache products (their Neocolor 1 and 2, their Neoopastels and their gouache) I figured that I would have to try their watercolor pencils, expecting something amazing. So I tried the Supracolors (thankfully I only bought primaries and not a full set) and I was honestly pretty let down. I would prefer Albrecht Dürer to the Supracolors on any day, and if the rest of the Supracolors are comparable to the colors that I have tried, then I would even prefer the Mondeluz by Koh-i-Noor. I don't find that the Supracolors feel nice when I draw with them, I noticed that they do not dissolve as well as the other brands (even the Colorgrips leave less pencil marks!) and considering the price point, I find the Supracolors to be lacking in pigment. After all, when I buy them here in Germany the Supracolors are even slightly more expensive than the Albrecht Dürers. This being said, I really would not recommend the Supracolors. Just like you said here, I would recommend people who are looking for just a good watercolor pencil get Koh-i-Noor, and if they want something that is artist grade and reliably lightfast they should best look at Albrecht Dürer.

      Exactly, why buy a super expensive Supracolor set when for less money You can buy Albrecht-Dürer?

    I have to say that Canson xl is probably the worst paper you could use for these tests, maybe a cotton paper would be a better representation. Also, you have to use a light hand on any of these products if you want full dispersion. I do enjoy your videos, but just a couple suggestions that might give you the best results from your products. Paper is so important.

      Tienes toda la razón. En mi opinión, el mejor papel para los lápices acuarelables es el de acuarela satinado prensado en caliente. Un buen multimedia, como el Canson Mix Media Imagine, también es válido y bastante más económico.

    I have the Albrecht Druher and I had a small set for over 30 years that came with me where ever I went. At the beginning of pandemic I purchased more open stock and I still had never activated them. At Xmas I bought myself the 120 set and activated them. I have used them as just pencils all this time and they are the best watercolour pencils ever made. Much love & *Virtual hugs* xxx

    Your reviews are amazing. We have the same taste. Albrecht Durer, Koh I Noor and the Goldfaber. I love them.
    Tried them on different waterpapers and every paper has it's own dream with these pencils. Thank you so much. Never stop reviewing

    Thank you for this thorough test. Watercolor pencils are my very favorite medium. I love the Durer Magnus pencils, and I use Kohinoor Mondeluz or General's Kimberly to fill in colors that I don't have in the Magnus set. I also have Chapter 1 & 2 of Uni pocket sets from Japan. The Unis seem excellent, I'd like to have a good set of about 36 of them in regular size.

    I collect watercolor pencils and did testing on all my different papers and it makes a huge difference in what paper you use for what brand. Caran d' Ache Museums are my absolute favorite. Albrecht Durer are also good but there is a difference in smoothness and texture in my opinion. I do not have the Supra as I decided enough was enough, lol. I don't see myself buying what I would consider a downgrade just to have another set in my collection.
    P.S. I like that you put the pencil on the paper directly rather than scribble it on another surface, dilute and then add it on the paper. To me anyway, you're using as intended and if you scribble it on another surface, dilute it and then add it to paper then you might as well save yourself some time and get some watercolor paints.

    • @color-dive
      @color-dive  2 роки тому

      You totally hit the point with that :). I am also wandering why so many people do not use the watercolor pencils directly on the paper, the same thing goes for the watercolor brush pens/markers, also there, the people either do not use water at all or put them first on the palette and then on the paper. Of course there are time when that is going to be helpful but not all the time, with that you lose the point of watercolor pencils and markers. ....
      So do you have any other brand of watercolor pencils to recommend? I bought 1 piece haha yes 1 of Museum and I am going to try it out :) but they are really expensive XD

    The stickers are for the red tin when you remove the outer sleeve. You find the sticker that corresponds to your item and place it on top. I keep the sleeves on the boxes, but still place the sticker.

    If you want artist grade watercolour pencils from Caran D'ache, their Museums are the best to go with. They are pricier, but are more in line with FC Albrecht Durer!

    Well, I am really surprised by that! I thought that they would be great. I haven't tried them before as I have quite a lot of Albrecht Dürer pencils that were in an open stock sale in my local Karstadt in Berlin. But you know what this means? You need to get a caran d'ache Museum aquarelle set to test. Everyone says they are the best. Better than Albrecht Dürer though? Who knows!

    I don't know if that's what the stickers are actually for but it makes sense: I was just thinking that using stickers could be a solution for when a coloured pencil gets so small that its colour name is gone.

    Perhaps the ‘extra piece’ of paper is to place on the work in progress. To rest your hand on, so the pencil marks don’t smear as you rework the painting.

    • @mimo4000
      @mimo4000 11 місяців тому

      The extra piece of paper is adhesive to make a label for the tin. For some reason Caran D'ache decided to make all their tins identical. Then they had to come up with a way for people to identify the contents when faced with more than one red pencil tin.

    I returned the supracolor pencils. Kimberly’s generals pencils are way better and the Albert Durer are my favorite. I have the 120 set of those, but the dissolve issue is actually your paper. If you switch to cotton rag you won’t have any marks from Albert Durer, but supercolor were just terrible
