- As Denmark’s reigning monarch, Queen Margrethe II took her final ride through Copenhagen in a gold-coated horse-drawn carriage on Thursday, 10 days before she is set to pass the throne on to her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik.
Crowned in 1972, serving for more than five decades, the beloved Queen Margrethe announced her intent to abdicate in her annual New Year’s Eve speech on a live television broadcast - shocking much of the nation.
“She has been a stable figure,” Danish church employee Bente Lindbak Pihl said on Thursday after attending the Queen’s final carriage ride in the country’s capital. “She has been a kind of big mother for all of us. She has been clever and inspiring.”
Queen Margrethe was not initially intended to become Denmark’s monarch, however, she became heir to her father, King Frederik IX, in 1953 at the age of 13, after a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne.

I think Queen Margrethe felt a big gap when her cousin Queen Elizabeth passed away, it must be devastated , bless her she’s a lovely Educated Queen and speaks more than 4 languages, the most beautiful stylish Queen 👸 , she devoted her life for Denmark and Danish people from the day she sat on the throne. Queen Margarethe II of Denmark was a modern Queen well ahead of her time , because , of what we see publicly, this Queen managed to maintain the good , and worthy, traditions of a Monarchy, but with appropriate adaptations with a touch of modernity, adjusting the functioning of the Monarchy to the new times of her Reign.
This certainly difficult , but wise , decision by the Queen to abdicate the throne in favor of her son , will probably allow Crown Prince Frederik to be King at an age with adequate vitality to carry out his duties, and at the same time a way for Queen Margaret to be able to live longer years in health, since she will be freer from so much responsibility and so much work in your daily life.
It’s really very good to see such Danish Royal Family.

It is childish and immature by anyone to hold the royal monarchy members up on a pedestal. Some of the public should snap out of their fantasy dream world as they might find out the true reality that the Queen now King and their family are the exact same equal human beings the same as everyone else. Royals are somehow superior human beings is humorously laughable, making the Royals out to be something that they’re not, nobody is born great, Royals are celebrities and nothing more, it is false god idol worship (idolatry).
A modern monarch would be a non hereditary prime minister or president and not a king, queen, empire or empress.
How wise of Queen Magrethe to allow the new generation to reign. She can see them and guide them as a new chapter starts in Denmark's monarchy. ❤
What an amazing person. To give her son the throne and with the smile on her face to leave. This shows a strong personality (not egoistic) and presence of love for her children and grandchildren.

I hope that she’ll be kind to herself and able to rest and take her time, cause aging is not an easy task, but I also hope, as a foreigner, to still have the chance to see her from time to time as a former Royal and as an example. I keep forgetting they still have a monarchy. Would be cool to be in a European monarchy today (the ones who are still rich & not 💀) but it’s also weird how they still exist. They’re just regular people whose ancestors paid ppl to steal, burn, build, etc in their name.

@@danishcommander4dk AND democracy - it works! A head of nation above party politics (queen/king) and a head of government (prime minister). US has the problem of having the two roles in one person. You should look to e.g. Germany - president - head of nation/chancellor - head of government.
