I think we all need these questions answered.
    1. Does this affect battery life?
    2. Why is the default 4GB?
    3. Is changing the Default affect performance? (One UI 4.1)
    4. How can we prove this actually works?
    5. Why doesn't anyone know or wanna test these questions?

  • @LeadStarDude

Virtual RAM has been a thing for many many years in Windows. It was mainly used to help increase graphics cards' virtual memory cache instead of a system memory extension. Basically it would allow you to use storage as a cache for a graphics card that had a low amount of dedicated VRAM. Obviously the storage memory was much slower than the physical VRAM in a graphics card, and when the storage memory gets used as a cache latency issues happen. All that being said it sounds like Samsung is using this as an actual RAM extension, but it's possible that it is still only going to be used as a cache for graphics memory simply because mobile graphics cards share system memory instead of having dedicated VRAM. Definitely a curious thing that I would love to have a clear answer for from Samsung.

But, the virtual ram in windows which you speak of was something to support the physical ram on the motherboard, no?
At least it started out that way, and that as a standard windows feauture not needing any outside programs. Wasn't it almost two decades or so this feature first came about, if not more?
Anyhow, I might be wrong, but I can't recall any instance where Windows' virtual memory would state or claim to increase the memory of any of my previous or current Nvidia graphic cards. It might be different on a laptop with an integrated graphic card.
I write this with all respect, no harm meant.

From my perspective, the ram plus feature is only useful for system background tasks only. It will not help in main app or game but still android OS eats a hefty amount of ram for background processes, like certain processes of system apps which we can see in settings>apps> system or caches processes. I think 2 GB is enough for ram plus if you have 8+ GB ram in your android phone.

    • @manishbangera9451

Would it be effective the same for 6 gb ram device? If kept on 2 gb ram plus.....currently its on 4 gb plus....by reducing ....wud it increase game performance?

    • @dixitpatel017
      @dixitpatel017 2 роки тому +1

@@manishbangera9451 of course 6 gb is enough for day to day task and 2 gb for background processes. By reducing 2 gb you are offloading the load from storage as it will be only hold 2GB for ram plus. One more thing, in PC, the windows operating system has thumb rule of 1.5xhow much amount of ram you have in pc or laptop. But it is not same for android. So Ram Plus feature I already used in 2013 to 2015 when we have 2 to 4 gb ram phones available and it was giving visible boost performance in phone by rooting those phones.

All apps won't be active at the same time and memory manager would start to kill apps that is not used. On Android I never see a phone used all the memory available. The high ram models leave a few gb free and 4 gb tend to leave 1 gb free to 500 mb free. I think the only time it would be used is if you running something intensive that require all that ram. Most of time it would be video editing. So since people change their phone every two to three years if your phone have 8gb you won't need it.

Based on personal experience I don't think ram plus is used while play games I think it uses the main ram. My reason behind this is that my s20 fe 5g sd865 6gb ram was experiencing frame drops in codm battle royal it would some time drop to 40 fps for 2 - 3 seconds.
Since I set ram plus on 6gb I no longer get those frame drops. I've tries 2gb and 4gb however I still got the frame drops so 6gb seems to fix the issue.

Hi Uttam, it's a common occurrence that the phone starts losing its processing power after a couple of years so is with VIVO, and this extra Ram is something which has been added without a proper demonstration of how it works or whether it really useful or not.. you can add it and try if it gets better.. I don't think it will degrade anything on the phone..

Just looked up on google for if virtual ram could be bad and found Is virtual RAM harmful?
Virtual memory, also known as the swap file, uses part of your hard drive to effectively expand your RAM, allowing you to run more programs than it could otherwise handle. But a hard drive is much slower than RAM, so it can really hurt performance. ... RAM is faster than storage, and you have much less of it.

That has always been true for PCs that have a classic HDD, but phones have NAND flash memory that is much faster, maybe the read/write is not as fast as its actual LPDDR4 RAM but it could work, I just can't find any comparisons anywhere for read/write speeds

Ram Plus increase or decrease your Swapfile, nothing more or less. bigger Swapfile means more apps open and unnecessary app data stored in swap on hard-drive or flash. it's opted out for the time you don't use this/those apps. Ram plus doesn't need more battery, in fact it saves battery bec it's more energy waste to start an app from scratch than to revive it from hard-drive. it's common computer knowledge how Swapfiles or Pagefiles work and why they are so important for every device no matter if you use Windows, iOS or Linux/Android. btw, flash memory is unbreakable for every ordinary user. my s23 has 8gb ram and the best setting is 6gb Ram Plus bec the Swapfile doesn't grow bigger than 4.9gb. for every device with 12gb ram the 8gb preset is optimal. before ppl post nonsense they should read. Google has anything we need. just learn to use it!!

This is a LG type of memory setting. LG was the only phone maker that let you use SD card storage as internal storage, meaning you could save apps data, and programs that Samsung, Google, or Motorola would not let you do. This is basically the same as having a SD card being recognized as internal storage.
