Thank you for your technique for starting scent work. I think this one would work really well for handler discrimination. Hope to see you and Goofy out at a trial some day.
It could be oregano or weed OK I love nose work when Hank and I are at the park and see people who might have oregano I love to yell "search find the oregano " he always heads right for it the look on their faces is priceless now that it's legal in NJ not as much fun yes it is totally GREAT VIDEO AGAIN
I just watched your short video on structure. I want to thank you for that video! I have been trying to find a way to communicate that point to my puppy adopters but could not find the words. Seeing that video caused me to subscribe to your channel. Thank you for your concise communication.
Really enjoy your videos, Robert, but I have a couple of comments on this video. First of all, we use rubber gloves when handling odors and odor hides so that we are absolutely confident that the dogs aren't getting imprinted on human odors; we change the gloves frequently so that we are sure no odor gets transferred to any other hides, or anything else. Hides that don't contain odor are treated exactly the same as those that do so that the only thing different about the hot hide is the odor. The other comment I have is that drug dogs must also give passive indications, because you wouldn't want your dog to get exposed to fentanyl or some other super toxic drug by scratching/digging at the source.
Definitely want to be trying this kind of thing just for mental stimulation! Love your work Robert, been watching for years now and I always learn new things from you ^_^
I'd love to try this with blood for tracking game. I worked with the ATF to help train their dogs on Blackhawks, they showed our crew some training on how they get their dogs to track a persons "footprints" in the grass and not by scent. It was really interesting.
We needed this video! I strongly believe my Staffy missed his calling & should have a real job. His nose gets the best of him & tracking anything is all he wants to do. Very distracted when outside 😕 This Training starts today! Thank you 🐾🙂
I have two 7 mo. old blackmouth cur puppies. They are working, hunting dogs (scent and sight). I know they need a job. Still working on basic commands. They know heel and sit, still working on stay, come, stand, down. Are they too young to start this? How long should this session be? Thanks.
What are you hiding the scent in? and where can I purchase them. I love your shows extremely helpful and appreciate all your hard work so we can learn from you.

Dear Robert, i have a question about an issue im struggling with. I have a 4y old female golden. She is a very obedient, calm dog. I trained her with positive reinforcement and common sense. Never been rough with her but neither have i let her run over me. And she is a great dog. Atm im dogsitting a 10month old female rescue dog. She is not trained at all and is very stubborn cuz she has always had everything her way. Now what amazes me it that my dog lets her be pushed around by her. The youngster cuts her of, she pushes her out of the drinking bowl, she lets her pass through the gate first, she drops her ball when the youngster runs besides her etc.. i did not expect that to happen. Is this because of her nature or is this because of the way i raised her? I would appreciate it if you give me some insight about this. Ty!!!
Hello! My husband and I have been following your page for awhile now. And he wanted to know where he could find the vest that you wearing in the video. He trying doing a search on the internet and couldn’t come up with anything. Would love to get him this for his birthday. Thank you!!
My 7month old puppy has started growling/barking at everything that comes by our door or seeing another dog across a field. It’s not aggressive, she just really wants to be around them. Any advice or tips to help her be more…calm?
Crate her unless you can give her your attention. If she starts correct her and mark the good behavior of stopping. Start to mark when she notices something but does nothing. Also don't take her out of the crate until she has calmed herself. If she can't do it in a crate she won't be able to out of it.
I was doing this so wrong, I put the treats in the bag with the dead animal skull so I was introducing the scent and the bones then gets the treats when she finds it. And I need thongs too
I drug it on the ground and hide it,she catches the scent but I can't get her to follow thru in showing me were it's at. But I'll try this method tomorrow. And I used peanut butter, so I got that part right🤣
@@RobertCabralDogs thanks Robert. I down loaded your library or playlist!! So excited to watch a Balanced Dog Trainer. There are over 100 videos. I have a 11 month Shnauzer who will be my 2nd Service dog. He is very stubborn. And I feel he could use a low level e stimulator. My trainer only uses PRT. It's so time consuming and very much a energy drain for me. I am disabled so I get over whelmed by only using PRT. Thanks for reading my comments. My passion is training this dog to be an amazing service dog for me. Do you do private lessons? Where are you located? Glad I found you on UA-cam.
In law enforcement, we do not train real detection dogs with treats. We use a ball or tug and get them to work through prey drive. Why? Because we don’t want to associate the scent of narcotics with the scent of food. That is a potential for disaster and violating someone’s rights. Also the dog may not be hungry one day or if his stomach is a little out of whack, he may kit want to work for food. This is civilian pet owner imitation.

Why don’t you do a video then

Detection and tracking are 2 different things, completely. Dogs are started in them differently.
