progressive-jazz-rock-funk-fusion is now officially a genre
cmz8706 someone's never heard of Return To Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra
you're half wrong: I've seen RTF live with my parents @ the Fox theater in St Louis but I've never heard of Mahavishnu. While RTF are incredible fusion, I would argue that this song is completely different sounding than RTF, but I couldn't speak to the other one you mentioned.
Zappa?
Rap
Yeah it began many decades ago. Jack White is by no means bad, but holy shit, he’s overrated
I love how the song is about jack white wanting to be his own thing and not be compared to anyone else, but the title of the song is the name of a movie
Just gotta love the new experimental route Jack has taken with his new album.
Martin Same here and BHR is my favorite record he has done out of the three solo albums.
This kind of songwriting just feels effortless at this point. It’s more dependent on top studio musicians doing things that take them out of comfort zone. It’s worth a listen but I wish jack would revert back to a more traditional style songwriting instead of this improv fusion stuff.
Matthew Hackett why? He’s done that for like 2 decades. And his writing on his last two solo albums was sounding stale. Too detached. Which isn’t to say that I didn’t like them. I did. This is just hella more interesting than his usual country/blues/blue eyed soul Schtick.
Jay T I don’t think he’ll continue in this direction. This album was his first done on pro tools and exceeds his usual 8 tracks. It’s fun. Definitely written on the spot so it’s possible he has songs on the back burner that he’s slowly crafting for another John Mayer style Columbia release which is what I’m looking forward to him spending loads of budget on studio musicians
Tranthony 17 same
Now that is funky.. had body and depth.. classical sounds..
this is soooo tight
compared to the early live performances from this record just two months ago, you can really tell that this band is starting to click. they have found a way to capture the essence of the record live
I listen to everything this man makes.
This is the weirdest shit. I love it.
Same
This live version sounds so much better than the studio one. I looove it.
Indeed, Alvaro.
I how heavy his guitar is live when he plays the big chords.
The whole album is better live
All music is better live and if it isn't then the artist isn't talented. Music is meant to be heard live where artists can't hide behind studio trickery
At first I was like "this is weird ass shit" then I found myself being...hypnotized. It's a mix of blues, funk and jazz. Man this was so cool!
Was expecting over and over and got ice station zebra, amazing!! Love how they choose to play maybe the most experimental song from the new album. I think Corporation, over and over and ice station zebra are my favourite tracks from this awesome album. Thank you Jack!
This album fits my commute perfectly and sounds great in the car - the louder the better. Took a few listens to love but I'm sold. Will always have and love the old stuff but a rolling stripe gathers no moss.
He's a genius. He is still brilliant.
Kinda ballsy to do this not-radio-friendly 4+ minute opus of orchestral layered white hop meets Yes on a live tv broadcast. This song will sound very different on the studio-recorded album.
Actually... it sounds quite similar
Totally in love with the drummer. Massively cool.
This is the best song he's done imo, a great blend between catchy and sophisticated, great bass, aggression, great guitar, great vocals
Excluding white stripes, but this would still be up there. White stripes are fantastic albums but often it's the combination of great songs, not the fact that there are a few great songs
Such an awesome mash-up of genres!
He's soaring over everyone's heads.
The drums are the money. They make an ordinary song sound really special
Damn those are some cool vocal effects at 2:12
Yeah, that was wild. They changed it mid song too, was there some sort of dial he adjusted with his hand or something?
@@smitty7326 2:41 Notice Jack looking down and the voice effect changing after that. He's most likely affecting his voice by running that specific mic into a harmonizing pedal or something.
Got that Beck flow
Masterfully mix 70's n 80's rock era..loveddd it
It's remarkable how he pulls this off live. Fantastic performance.
It rocked
Anyone else notice that Jack's been getting into Zappa? I'm more than cool with it.
Hi I'm falling in love with Jack's courageous decision to go beyond the " norm"and push his musical talents to the max! And find out just how far he can go on Maslow's Hiearchy of Needs! Jack White!! You're "self-actualization" is at the top and I LOVE that you're exploring , breaking boundaries!!! I LOVE ALL OF YOUR NEW MUSIC! I listened to Love Interruption w/ Ruby Amanfu, Entitlement, I'm Shakin to this!!!! OH, loved the St Vincent's guitar u used for SNL Connected by Love!!!💞💞💞💞
One of my favorite arrangements on the album! 💗👽🎵🎶
No one comes close to this guy. Simply amazing composition!
I'm currently in a Jack White phase and it's all cause of this video. 😄
This is honestly the best song in the album, next one to me is weirdly enough hypermisophoniac
This is what acid feels like.
Juliet Marlowe then I love acid
0:49-0:52 , basically what an acid trip feels like
Nope
i like this song. it's really something fun when you perform this piece live. it's a more progressive song than usual. also the drummer is awesome
It sounds a lot like Zappa! Really nice!
Nope, not even close.. Don't insult Frank..
I thought of Zappa as well.
DaGhostDS, I don't agree with you, but i respect your opinion!
LoL, yeah, I also thought of Frank Zappa. Loved the mans introspect. This song, tho? I think Franky-boy would be flattered :)
DaGhostDS Thank you
Love, love, love everything about it and I'm not just saying that because I adore this man. So funky and as usual love his guitar skills. You rock Jack!
That song is funky as hell. 💗🎸🎧
What a performance of a difficult live song!
*HELL FUCKING YEAH*
Its like Funky Rockabilly Jazz, good stuff, not sure its driving music but super cool none the less
I have a new favorite song. I love the jazzy part in the middle! Music is fun again.
Always pushing the limits of music.....taking us forward to the new. thx Jack
best Rock album at the Grammy's 2019, mark my words
Saif Alaswad sadly not
I finally saw him after 10 years of trying on this tour best concert ever and ive been to about 20
Favorite track on the album.
SIMPLY AWESOME! Jack white is a gifted artist. Great Album 'Boarding House Reach'
That drummer kicks ass, and so does the keyboard player!
Love the two keyboard players!! They're awesome!!! \m/
so hyped for when i see him live :D
Nothing wrong with four-chord nonsense, nothing wrong with a break - like this - from it.
Jim's videos totally agree, same with the new AM album
rock n roll isn't nonsense, jim.
Paulo Mendes was gonna comment the same thing. i'm disappointed to say the least, but i understand what they're doing
THis stooge even rips off the solo part of Led Zepps Stairway to Heaven. Well given that he and the Edge, blew their way into the video with Jimmy Page, he had to walk away with something.
I,m sorry, are you calling this rock and roll? If so, you are clearly intoxicated to the point of misunderstanding, deafness and totally brain dead.
Dayam- this is everything I love about Jack White- and the band is amazing, too!!
That was FABULOUS!
Songs kicks some serious arse, good job
I can't not love him, even if i dont....😚 if i dont love it immediately i will after a few listening sessions, he is amazing!
You know you're a bad ass when eddie van halen builds you an EVH wolfgang just for you!
Pretty interesting song, I heard so many different influences; Jazz, Zappa, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, some of his vocals also maybe had some AdRock (earlier, License to Ill, Check Your Head) and I liked the different timing the drummer played with. The only part that kinda hit me weird was the drop down to light piano, but I'm not saying I didn't like it, just the first time I heard the song. It's def. songs like this where a good drummer really shows their stuff. Cool.
I agree with your references. Definitely the beastie boys and zappa. I liked the dry piano break. sounds like a school piano or something nostalgic.
GOTT! DAMM!!
Love it!
This reminds me of beastie boys Paul's boutique
The video effects are so cool.
Loved it!
🌾🌻🌾GREAT PERFORMANCE JACK; BRAVO, ENCORE!🌾🌻🌾
🌾🌻🌾THE DRUMMER IS JACK WHITES EX-WIFE! FANTASTICO🌾🌻🎂
DAT DRUMMER DOUGH!!!
This song never gets old.
So happy to see him going in full gear
🖤 I love this song 🖤
I'm in love with the drummer.
By the way, this song is fucking insane.
Holy shit, what a brilliant performance!
Maravilhoso! Eu amei o disco novo do Jack White e só tenho elogios para sua profissional e espetacular apresentação ao vivo!
FUCK YES!!
The lesser known brother and arch-nemesis of Jack Black.
Wait, Neal Evans is in Jack White's band now? Awesome.
That was probably so fucking loud on stage. 6x10 Cabinet with 100 watt silvertone, and an 85 watt Fender I believe? Dimed.
Damn, son... The first Jack White song that I like!
He has loaaaads of amazing songs. It's just 7 times out of 10 he's not good live. But Consoler of the Lonely, Carolina Drama, Little Cream Soda, Icky Thump, Solute Your Solution, Girl you don't believe in medicine and Take, Take, Take are all spectucular songs and worth checking out. Problem is they've all at one time been performed really badly live.
It's just so bad ass!
Title is Howard Hughes favorite movie. He'd have TV stations play it all night in Vegas.
Novel from 1963 by Alistair MacLean.
Ice Station Zebra is also the name of a shell company that laundered money on Breaking Bad.
Thank you for clarifying, I only knew from breaking bad
This races through many genres of American popular music. I'd buy a ticket. And I prefer the first album.
That ending blew me away.
This album is great
Great performance!
They rocked our stinkin faces off in Dallas omg y'all don't even KNOW!! Ugh! Still on cloud 9,000
This performance kicks the shit out of the snl performances, they were hard to watch but this is phenomenal
I know these aren't the actual lyrics but in this live version it totally sounds like he said "You hit like DiMaggio"
Fuuunky!
Don't know if it was intentional, but digging the '90s music video effects on the edges of the frame
well that was epic!
this is the man
That was a stone groove!
Drummer is killing it!
Jack White + Jack black = Jack Grey the side project of the century.
It's actually happening
I discovered Jack White a couple of years ago. My daughter turned me on to the Raconteurs. I really like this album. It’s as complex as jazz, yet with a garage band feel. Yeah, different than We’re Going to Be Friends or Seven Nation Army, but I like it.
This shit fucking jams!!...Carla Azar on drums!!..She's a beast!!...5 more days and i will be seeing this live in Cleveland Ohio...Yeah baby!!
One hell of drummer.
Greatness! Thanks for everything bud! On my first tour where should I go to in Detroit? I’m trying to figure it out now so that I can plan it! Because after July 19th, 2023 I’ll only be playing music for the rest of life!
Smiling so hard rn
😆🙌🏾 DAAAAAAAAAMN! ❤❤❤
The drummer’s stick is bigger than yours! 😂
Get It Carla!!!
From one Steven to another Ste[ph]en, you must keep offering this level of musical art to your faithful audience. #amazing #allegedly
The frontier. This is 2118. Amazing
That guy can rap, bro
T’es un génie ! ❤❤❤
Carla Carla Carla♥️♥️♥️
