In March, 2024, I was attempting to reach Amboy from I40, VIA Kelbaker Road. As soon as I got off I40, there were signs that said that the National Trails Hwy was closed both directions, due to flash floods that weakened the bridges along Route 66. My wife and I have been taking this route for years. South on US95 out of Las Vegas, down to Route 66 [Goffs Road] to Amboy, before the floods of 2014. So we then took I40 to Kelbaker Road and connect with Route 66, to Amboy. But now with Kelbaker road closed, we had to drive on I40, all the way to Barstow! Any word on when Route 66 will reopen between Kelbaker road and Amboy? I would really like to see Route 66 back open thru Essex, again!
Despite the road closure signs on Kel Baker you can actually get through and I watched a local do it. But like you, I chose to head to Ludlow and go in from there. I think It'll be a while before Old Route 66 is open East of Kel Baker but I suspect Kel Baker will open in the next year or two... unless the weather doesn't co-operate. If you watch my previous video, Route 66 #7 at the end I interview the hostess at the cafe and she sheds light on the road situation. Thanks for the comment!
@@fiestaadventures Excellent, that video was very informative! Back in 2014, my sons, brother and I came across Route 66 on motorcycles, just hours before a major storm hit the area. It closed down Route 66 between Amboy (Kelbaker Road) and Essex for a year or so, then they reopened it, and another storm (that one she said about 12 years ago) hit and between Kelbaker Road and Essex has been closed since. Having Route 66 closed is a big headache for us, because we travel to Murrieta every 6 months. And I'm one of those that hates I15 between Murrieta and Las Vegas and will do everything I can to stay off of it. I'll Subscribe to your channel so I can keep up on your trips! Great job!
