On Thor being a genetic freak, it was always interesting to see him train with the likes of Martins Licis. Martins' technique was always flawless and meticulously honed, allowing him to lift weights more effectively than most competitors. Meanwhile Thor just always seemed like he just winged his technique, and his weights were still untouchable. I'm not saying Martins isn't genetically gifted, but Thor is just on another level.

It is worth checking out the video of Thor's first 300kg deadlift. He has done a lot of work on his technique over the years. He is genetically gifted, yes, but he has also worked incredibly hard to get to this point. If you only see his endpoint, it is easy to assume is came easy!

From a business/promoters point of view Thor returning will have £/$ signs in their eyes. It'll put bums on seats and I'm sure will see a big uptake in ticket sales when he returns. The build up to his first major comp back will be insane and going forward even more so if he does well. For that reason I can't see him being in a position where he will need to work his way back into the mix for any invites to major comps. Again, from a business perspective, I'm sure Bryce will be doing everything in his power to patch things up and get him to Giants Live/WSM.

I would imagine that Thor's strongman presence, power, conditioning, and formidable appearance increases his chances to appear in movies and "Hollywood".
    Thor in The Shaw Classic?
If Thor makes his way back to being a top competitor, Brian Shaw will invite him... Brian would not want any of his shows to be questioned for its integrity if a true top guy doesn't get an invite.
I think Eddie Hall will follow Brian's lead if Thor is a top strongman again. I don't think Thor would care about Eddie's presence anywhwere. Thor will show up to win.

Thor's one of the greatest of all time, and in 2018 Thor (is) the greatest strongman of all time at that particular year, BUT I can't see Thor being back at his best ...(I'm not counting him out) but with having 3 years off, committing to boxing, losing all that weight, I personally can't see him being as his best, fitter yes, quicker yes, but I can't see his strength being the way it was , I'd love him to but I personally can't see it, but I do wish him all the best , also when Tom did the stones (I think it was this year's) giants live said that was the fastest of all time, it actually wasn't if you look at strongman archives , Thor did the same weighted stones years previous and a quicker time than toms.
But I'm looking forward to seeing Thor come back.
Imagine this , he comes back next year , just imagine if he did go back to world's which likely won't happen but let's just say if he did, imagine him winning that , rogue, Arnold's, Shaw, then beating the powerlifting record ..... IMAGINE THAT !! unlikely... But IMAGINE THAT !!

My thoughts are particular in a way people might get mad but:
    a) Thor´s Return is indeed exciting, his retirement marked a before and after in strongman with competition going a bit lighter, like when Big Z retired, i mean, "Who can actually deadlift a thousand pounds on an elephant bar?" type of situation; this also promted strongman that might have never beat him to win something. However competition did got better and Mitch Hooper is the man now... if Thor stays at a healthy weight is gonna be a close one, if he bulks to his monster figure then that´s it, after all Thor came from a time when maybe competition was not as stacked but the top dogs where all monsters.
    b) The Arnolds´should comeback to their Qualification era, i mean pre-covd you had to win an event to be invited to the Arnolds, reason why Big Brian didn´t showed at 2020, This way atlethes like Thor can fight for getting in the competition rather than the lately invitational events, this would also get rid of guys that (sorry to say this) are not Arnold´s material, afterall the Arnolds´are the best and heaviest strongman comp. However if is just gonna be an invitational, then YES, he should get invited, he´d do better than any of the Stoltman´s for example.
    c) Thor should do the competition at the Shaw classc, regardless of who Brian is friends with Brian know bussines and have a good relation with Thor, even though they had fought more between each other than with Eddie himself, yes Eddie gonna be around but Brian knows how to handle his shit and far as we know Eddie vs Thor is in the past now as we know even Giants Live reckon Thors´deadlift record now (as an exhibition lift)... regardless:
    d) Thor steping back into strongman might prompt an incendiary situation, not necessarly with Eddie, but with Colin Bryce, Giants Live, and WSM. Let me remind all of you there is something that got swept under the Rough as Quickly as possible in the last two years: CORRUPTION. Yup, remember the Tom Stoltman audio leaked scandale? GL, Colin and WSM have a thorn on their side wich is the allegations of favoritism against them, even though Thor took no place in this and has not spoken about itin a while, it must be pointed that in later years all this started when Thor alleged Colin changued the events on the WSM final 2017 in favor of you know who, wich later was changued by GL and you know who trying to point at Thor only talking about the viking press, but it was the whole contest and as a matter of fact Thor was not the only strongman talking about it. All this blew up on Giants Live face when they sided with Eddie when the man was trying to bad mouth Thor before taking his Deadlift record, however, Giants Live took it further wich pissed Thor who swore never to compete for them again. Things didn´t went easier whn the trash talk happend between the Beast and the mountain and several names where thrown away to piss each other wich revelead interesting information about many things.
Things now look easier cause neither side has done anything since Mr Beast became Mr Crab and got badly punched. If They work things out and Thor comes back to do GL shows then things gonna be fine... but knowing Thor, imagine what gonna happen when he shows at the Arnolds´, Rogue and Shaws´ but not to WSM, specially if he wins, not having the best in the world is gonna turn some heads around for WSM and then someone just asks "Hey!, how come Thor never competes for Giants Live?". Regardless of the answer it might turn bad for those who have skeletons on their closets

  • @elliottengstrand5988
    @elliottengstrand5988 Рік тому +2

The main reason I want to see Thor back at WSM is because I really want him to win another one. Just one. Because he currently gets lumped in with all the other people who have *only* won once, and a lot of fans regard him as being just a good strongman and not one of the best. Yeah, he only has one WSM championship, but he has 8 consecutive podiums, including three 2nd place finishes all within 2 points of the title. Not that many things would have had to go differently for us to live in a world where Thor has 4 WSM titles. I don't like to ever say anyone deserves more accolades than they got because at the end of the day you show up and you either beat everyone else or you don't, but if there is a case to be made that any strongman "deserves" more WSM titles, it's Thor.

Everybody thinks they're invincible (myself included) until you get an ego check. What a lot of people don't realise is, that you can gain muscle and strength fast, faster if you're enhanced, but the tendons and ligaments need time to catch up to the strength of the muscles, unfortunately for Thor I think he overlooked that in his powerlifting training and paid the price. I think he needs to, number one, ease into it with an EASY show - relatively speaking of course - and by that I mean something he has a good chance of winning even after this long, go in there, WIN, and that's CRUCIAL because one thing I have noticed over the years is that for a lot of these guys HAVING that most recent loss under you seems to sap them of that BELIEF that they can win- somewhere, inside, there's doubt, and I'm not a world tier lifter by ANY mean but even for ME, I can see a direct impact on my own lifts if I lose strength, come back to it months or a year or so later and NOTICE that strength loss - it DEFINITLY impacted my much I put into things and therefore impacts my peak end strength levels. Last couple of years I have dialed back a lot, just from having a lot of distractions in life, and a lack of equipment in the last year, and yeah, I don't feel the same drive to get stronger and stronger now than 2 years ago - I still work out....but it's definitely at a lower level than before. For THESE guys, where that little bit of doubt can hamper that explosivity they so badly NEED in competitions, or a light lack of hunger....that' magnified exponentially, and you don't need to be as strong as Hafthor can get to understand that conceptually.
SO, yeah. He needs a win under his belt to boost his confidence but simultaneously he needs this next year to GUARD his body against more injury. That shit will ruin your gains for year - my left shoulder I hurt 8 months or so ago is STILL in pain when I lift anything over my head more than 20 kg or so - which even for me is normally a baby weight but NOW, for that shoulder, it's a struggle. He gets hurt again, his career is kind of done, honestly.

That said, genuinely impressed at how quickly you did this from Hafthor's video - unless he texted or something before hand. But you can always say you're just that quick.
Thor's a genetic monster, never mind a freak. The last few years I think have highlighted just how insanely impressive deadlifting 500 and 501kg is at-all. That Hafthor did that and just went for a walk afterwards is almost mind-breaking.
    *edit*
Also, thrilled that Thor's officially back. He's such a great strongman. And absolutely clear he's not after a payday. He could absolutely go back into acting and get a lot more money. I'd suspect his gym makes plenty. He has other businesses that are successful.
Also, I think Thor could be winning major competitions for years yet. If he avoids injuries well enough, he could have the longevity of Zydrunas, easily.
