2016 Europe's Strongest Man
2016 Ultimate Strongman World Champion
2 X Britain's Strongest Man
2 X Winner of Strongman Champions League
2017 UK's Strongest Man,
British RAW Powerlifting record holder.
2024 going to be a massive year if things work out:
Return of Thor and Martins
Mitch and Wide Pavlo with experience
Tom, Oleksii, and Trey still in prime
Mattuesz back in stride
The depth of championship caliber athletes should be crazy. Rogue should start planning now for a record breaking prize purse to ensure everyone peaks for their show that year.
I am almost crying 😭. This year is crazy good and the next one is going to be unreal
@@yoroshikuonegaishimasu8649 What I wouldn’t give for all the guys I mentioned to come in healthy and peaked to even just one competition!
O wow, that's 8 top athletes that all have a real shot at the most prestigious titles. That's a lot, it used to be only 3 or 4 guys.
Rogue only has 10 athletes 1 of which are the winner of the amateur.
How do you narrow it down to 9 athletes? Thor, novikov, Tom, Mitch Hooper, Martin's, mateusz and pavlo have to be locks right? That's 7. How do you decide 2 more from Mitchell, Thompson, Luke s, Boudreault, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. Plus any others who surprise us this year. Even better would be if Shaw wanted to make 1 last appearance at Arnold's like he's doing with WSM this year.
If they're all healthy that's a tough decision to make.
@@Nolan-55 Agreed! I’d love to see Rogue and Arnold invite 12 athletes or more going forward. There is so much more depth at every level of the sport now. Lots of guys who could put in a respectable showing if they have time to prep.
To get that ATWR, it’s very likely he must upgrade his squat to over 500 kg. Insane. I only hope Thör signs on a big Meet in the USA. Not another Thör’s Gym meet.
Thor is planning to do it in December and inquired from the fans in the livestream yesterday when the Big Dogs meet is happening. Seems he will do 2 meets before that. One in April and the other in July. I'm certain he will break the world record.
@@jamesmaitlandstewart08 Thanks for the news. Definitely he's gonna break it.
Thor is one man who should definitely get a crack at the unspunnen stone throw. Man might just throw them like a shot put ball.
Very correct, Thor will destroy everyone in that event.
@@giovannicupello1977 brian
@@noahc8997 read lifting stone and keg tossing wikipedia articles.
I feel like thor was completely robbed of his last squat attempt in his 2018 meet and even still his total from that meet still ranks 13th best of all time. I think he's going to have a really hard time breaking the all time total but if he can get his grip strong enough to break 1000 lbs on the deadlift he has a shot.
Squat is so hard to judge, and a few degrees of angle can make up quite a few pounds. Daniel used a monolift for his record, would be nice if Thor used the same kind of equipment.
@@dagstenklev172 His walkout makes it much more credible. Walkout att that level of poundage is a task in itself...
@@wolfganghasenmaier8350 He is going for the world record squat you think he needs more credibility? He should save his strength for the lift and use a mono lift if he wants to get #1 all time.
It’s going to be so epic. Thor would probably have to get something like 475/270/440 to get Dans record. It’s a big ask but if anybody can do it it’s him.
I really think he can do it. There's no one more driven in the sports world
I was doing that maths as well. I wonder if raw record uses the kabuki deadlift bar as that’s a big difference regarding the deadlift compared to stiff but I’m speculating as I don’t know what bars get used
@@parisferguson8654 Dan Grigby federation in he competes does.
@@parisferguson8654 Dan Bells record was done in 2021, which I believe was before the Kabuki Bars were being used
It would be cool if he was the first man to squat and deadlift 1000lbs raw in the same meet! But it might take a little longer than he planned!
Thors last powerlift total has been done in his strongman prep not in powerlift prep(very short). He can focus only on his three main disciplines and overall it is big difference. He can compensate his bench by his deadlift easily....
Liz, why are you always with a dark face in every single video about Thor?
5:06 1,100 kg total and "Yeah, that's good"???
I could possibly see Thor clearing 850-900kg with squat and deadlift. But the bench press, that's probably where he's going to come up short
Think you’re forgetting about Misha. Powerlifter, Olympic Lifter and strongman
Exactly! Until Thor does weightlifting at a high level (could just start an untested fed and closely match Lashas numbers(which I very much doubt he could do)), he cant be regarded as the greatest strength athlete.
going to be very interesting to see what he can do at a lighter weight in this era of the sport - given what the likes of Novikov and Cooper have done to shake up the vision of a strongman is it could be a good time to come back lighter and more athletic
If he can stay healthy he can be the unquestionable greatest of all time
@@YetAnotherRetardedYTUpdate hafthor could do the same. He's still young.
@@YetAnotherRetardedYTUpdate I think eras are important to keep in mind. Thor winning more titles against better talent holds more weight for me. It will end up being like the Hackk and Coan debate in PL
Yes, 100% agreed.
It's exciting to hear he'll be coming back, but I want to see Mateusz get some big titles, and the talent field is as dense as it's ever been right now. Imagine Arnold's 2023 with Kieliszkowski, Novikov, Thor, Licis, Tom Stoltman, Brian, Hooper, Trey, Luke Stoltman, Bobby Thompson, Pavlo, and Maxime. That would be a mind blowing lineup. Back in 2019/2020 I was getting tired of Thor winning, though. He was like a cheat code.
Saudações do Brasil
Liz.."I love an all in Thor" 😂
Super glad Thor is coming back to Strongman… but I seriously doubt he gets the total WR. He was a decent mark off the current WR and I wouldnt be surprised if bell pushes it up even further. Also to say hell do it in the next ten months makes me doubt it more
he did 1100kg before in his 2018 meet!
@@Seowie yea but to even get back to that level of strength, pretty sure he weighed ~205 kg let alone add 200+ pounds to his total? Also in ten months? Just trying to be realistic. Hed have to exceed his old level of strength quite a bit- I hope he does.
The only thing that will keep Thor from breaking the powerlifting record is his bench. He can reach 450 in both squat and deadlift but will need almost a 300 bench which I am not sure of
He can definitely go well beyond 450 in the squat. After just a 6 week prep, he'd done 460 fairly easily in competition, just very controversial red lights for depth. I wouldn't be surprised if he was closer to 500 on squat after a full prep
Thor is a freak. Will be interesting. I don't think 185 is enough though. Mass moves mass. But hey, you never know.
I said it back then and I'll say it again: Thor should have gone for the powerlifting record in the months after his 501 deadlift, and _then_ dealt with the boxing.
Who the hell is Dan Bell and where is he? Is he another Ronnie Cole?
I don't see the 1188 kg happening.
I see 1100+ happening again
How is returning to powerlifting a return to strongman?
both, first powerlifting, next year strongman
He better focus on his health.
This may bring an upset to the current aspirations of the up and comimg athlete's as well. One thing about this sport, there are no sure winners anymore.
Thor returning as the Powerlifting ATWR holder makes it game over for everyone else. They better do their best and win whatever they can within 2023.
My excitement for strongman right now is immeasurable. Sat here waiting for more news for anything strongman and this pops up 💪
At least , he is not corrupted like Stoltman's brothers
Pure power , no cheating
Thor back looking to break record's while Eddie waddles about pretending to do bodybuilding.
Doubt Eddie is bothered he's making far too much money doing what he's doing. You seen his numbers on UA-cam, the mans raking in the money. Look at his followers compared to Thor's, obviously he is more popular than Thor as a person.
Not a better strongman but I'm sure Eddie's bank manager is pretty happy with how things are going.
@@aland5810 Yes Eddie is all about the money that's become obvious.
Thor is awesome for the sport!! You can’t be a strongman fan and not be excited about what his return means. In my opinion Thor is one of the best draws you can have right now. With Shaw stepping out Thor’s return couldn’t happen at a better time
The sport is better with him in it. Great news!
If anyone could smash the powerlifting WR it would be Thor. Dude is an absolute monster. Unreal strength.
Of course others could too but The Mountain is from another world
Thor is a genetic marvel. Not that many people that can say they want to break the all time powerlifting record with no prior training and you be like "yeah probably"
“With no prior training”? 😂
Can i love this video? Thor back will be amazing, epic! Battles next year could reach an all time high as they are now!
Having followed Thor for pretty much his whole career I think this break will probably actually have helped him. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually comes back in better shape than in his prime. We know he has amazing genetics, and isn't injury prone, with incredible focus. I think he will go as heavy as possible (200kg+) to break the all time powerlifting record, then slim down to 185kg ish for strongman. I believe his previous total was also only done with around 6 weeks notice. Also, if he has Seb Oreb onboard again that'll will be a big factor. Helped him on technique for the 501, as well as Graham Hicks' for his total a few years ago. Very excited too see him back as he is one of the greats of strongman!
“Slim down to 185kg”
Strongman really is a whole different world.
I love HalfThor, he did not kill Canadian arm-wrestler Devon Larratt in their boxing match! He was compassionate with every punch. Devon's head was still attached to his body, that is a sign of kindness! Thank you Thor, you are a great beast of a man! ( I think he took it easy on Eddie too!)
I was so happy when I saw Hafthor post that video yesterday.
Why would he come back to WSM when its fixed by his Haters
Rouge and Arnolds and maybe Shaw Classic. Competitions with big pay-outs a no GL involvement.
You have to get Don Reinholdt on the channel! Would love you hear an interview with him!
I can promise you i have been trying
I'm genuinely excited for Thor's return to Strongman! Regarding powerlifting, I'd be surprised if he actually manages to beat Dan Bell's record but I wouldn't at all be surprised if he beats his own PR despite coming in 20kg lighter. Whether or not he breaks the WR I've got mad respect for Thor, his level of determination is unmatched.
just pure hypothetically (for fun) if Thor would hit his PB on each of three events, he would go over 1200 kg (501+460+250) :) Dan's bench press was not that big of the margin over Thor's PB at that comp. Thor's 1100 kg was probably when he didn't train so much for bench press as it is the one lift that doesn't translate so much to strongman events as the other two or other exercise. Of course Dan's squat was impressive 500 kg (still record I think?). But record for bench press is over 80 kg of his lift and Thor showed he can massively improve his strength. Again, hypothetically, if Thor can get his bench press PB up meager 25 kg and do 475 dead lift and 440 squat which is IMHO in his reach, he well surpass the record :)
But said all that, I want to see him back in strongman and lighter to see what he can do.
So happy to hear those news. Can't wait for thr Pavlo vs Thor deadlift battles. And if he manages to get the All Time Raw Total he's without a doubt the strongest human in history.
I dont think he will get to 200kg+ bodyweight again. But who knows.
I thought he was only going to do powerlifting in the future, not strongman?
With his bench and squat there is no chance he will get all time raw total. Deadlift is his only good lift from big three. And that's with straps. If I remember correctly he isn't a particularly great in grip events so that might limit his deadlift. Sure if he takes powerlifting seriously for a few years and learns to bench decent kilos, he could become really good at it.
@@dr.ohhimark174 He did squat around 900 in his meet a few years ago with very little prep so I think it's possible for him to get around 1k there. And as far as deadlift, he's got the hand size and grit for hook grip if he's willing to practice it.
@@cisrael468 He still has to deadlift around 470 and squat 490 if he dreams of getting the world record with his bench.
Unless of course if he's willing to be 200kg again. Then his bench would not be his downfall
3:28 "For me as a fan, when athletes at their prime retires, you kinda sit there and wonder about what was he capable of. Now we might be able to see what he is truly capable."
That is what I've been saying for years. People wonder and dream about things Thor was cut short to do by his own choice. Now there will be no "if, but, could, should"s. Many people said Thor could break the total WR at with a proper prep, but that is the interesting part of when people actually compete, you can see their true potential.
Exited to see what happens, but honestly Thor back in strongman in 2024 is even more impressive to me, can't wait to see him going against Tom, Hooper and Novikov.
I really hope Thor keeps up with his cardio. I think all his boxing training could have gave him a new special edge, and powerlifting can take you in the opposite direction
Given the bridge burning with Giants Live and WSM I think its going to take a HUGE olive branch to coax him back. If he gets back into top form then Tom is going to have to watch out.
Tom would need like 5 years of grind to ever win WSM again if Thor competes
Tom is poverty Thor
@@Richard-tj1yh yes, because Thor so thoroughly dominated WSM before he left....how many wins does he have???? I guess the 8 (out of 9) times he didn't win means no one else will ever have a shot to win...
@@Richard-tj1yh Tom has more WSM wins than thor.
@@liamsludge2659 yes but Thor has 3 ASM
I can totally understand Loz's excitement. I believe millions of others are really excited for Thor's return! He is the greatest!
So glad to hear this! The line-ups in 2024 are going to be ridiculous!
As I said in a video here on my channel, I believe that Hafthor will use the world record attempt in Powerlifting to raise his static game, which will be so important in ASC and ROGUE.
This is unbelievably exciting. About to be the strongest competition in the history of the sport.
Totally!
Saw that video, so f ing exciting.
Thor is one of the best in strongman. If he pulls off this power lifting record. He will be the best strength person in the world. I can't wait to see him doing the strong man competitions again. It will be fantastic..
Do you think Thor will return to WSM if he has a boxing match with Colin Bryce first?
Not unless Colin likes to die inside the ring.
To naysayers, Thor said he was doing boxing and people said "nah, he's too slow and big, he'll gas out etc Thor trained his ass off and proved everyone wrong attaining good technique and conditioning. I have faith Thor will break Dan's record. I also have faith he'll come back in 24 and win Arnolds and TRI.
People forget Thor Totaled 1100kg on 5 weeks Prep and narrowly missed out on his final Squat and Deadlift which would have got him 1140kg
I think the specific skill practice of powerlifting will make up for his loss of Bodyweight especially on Squat and Bench being pretty techical 1200kg Incoming
@@whenisasnakeatail4933 haven't seen a decent side angle tbh but looked close
This comment will age well.
I see it a bit differently. People forget that the monstrous Final Version of Hathor (2018-2020) was result of him being SIX times in a row on WSM podium but never winning ! He wasn't always THAT kind of monster, it took incredible amount of determination (anger, frustration - however you want to call it) and time. Kinda surprising how so many people are optimistic and believe in 'muscle memory'. I don't see him beating the powerlifting record. But will be very exciting to watch
Best news this year.
Right now, he’s a top 5 of all time strongman. I will always believe he could have been top 1 if he’d stayed in the sport. That might be out of reach now, but it’s going to be fun to find out.
With the improved respiratory and cardio performance his work capacity will be even greater. The Bench trives on high volume work and he will be able to sustain that. Thor legs are huge as it is now he will end up with some huge huge legs and this Squat will go big! As for deadlift we all know he knows how to do it. Will Thor beat the record right away? Give him a year!
As a general rule it feels wrong to bet against Thor when any feat of strength is involved.
Would absolutely love it if Thor did a Giants Live again. Seeing him react to the crowd getting them going, so much better than any other show
They treated him badly and have been unkind to him
We need a Rouges with a British crowd.
Might have done had they not constantly insulted him and not disregarded his WR
The probability is higher that he does the Shaw Classic and we for shure won't do that either.
Unfortunately it’s extremely unlikely as he doesn’t want to compete in an corrupt organisation.
So fucking psyched to follow this 2 year journey! I hope you guys keep us updated as I love your take on anything and everything strength related :)
I believe Thor is capable of breaking the records 💪💪
The other strongmen better buckle up for the return of the mountain is gonna put the strongman comps to another lvl yet again...
He is the King, he will break the world record 100%. Me and my 2 grandson's are going to follow this remarkable journey!
Definitely he will do it.
I think he can do it. He's an abnormal human in that regard.
I also think a lot of strongmen will be taking a big sigh and thinking "Oh god, please don't come back."😂
Thor's comeback gonna shook the world of strenght Sports, WSM and GL better catch Up with the competition, cuase Thor ain't going with them and that it's gonna affect them greatly while the Arnold's get far more prestige and Rogue takes over them
Yet the only title that really matters to actual strongmen is WSM.
@@aland5810 LOL to Hall and Stoltman fanboys Maybe, for must of Strongman fans the Arnold's are way beyond wsm and their Dumb format, There's been a lot of polls. Right now wsm is trying to not fall to WUS
Thor will dominate again! Good times coming up.
Um no. The world's best go to WSM. Only crybabies like thor don't. He constantly failed to perform against the top strogmen, hence his 1 win in 9 apperances
I think the reduced bodyweight is a large part of the reason he's hitting a year of powerlifting to go for the record. I think he can do it!
Whats interesting to me is his mindset around 185kg body-weight versus 200kg. If you're going to go and compete only a few more times, may as well go all the way to 200kg!!
If Thor stays healthy in his quest he will conquer!
It would seem that Thor retired because his health was at risk. What might be different this time around? Has he discovered some amazing new form of ped use that allows him to be stronger but not as big as he was before? I suppose it is possible.
If he brings back 2018 Thor but a bit lighter then everyone needs to watch out
Wide pavlo vs Fullthor 2024 let's go!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that losing all that weight and consequently strength for one big circus fight was kind of a waste? I mean as impressive as it is how he could actually get in a fighters shape and even acquire decent boxing skills in such a short time period, Thor would have been able to build a massive legacy in Strongman in the meanwhile, but wasted a couple of his prime years instead. I mean, it's clear as day that Thor could never be an elite level boxer, you're not going to be able to switch to a totally different sport in your 30s and be competitive at the highest level, it just doesn't happen, so was it rly worth it all for one big drama show with Eddie Hall?
I think it was the 7 or 8 figure paycheck
bone thugz back and you gonna be in trouble
Cannot wait to see it Loz the mountain returns
Im really excited for his return, but I do wonder if he will be able to reach the same peak that he hit in 2018?
2018 Thor was the best strongman ever, so anywhere close to that is still podium finisher at most major comps
@Ninja Strongman Agreed, 2018 Thor was in another league. I do think that the number of the elite strongman has increased since then though, plus the midpack is incredible and has huge depth. I think Thor will be up there but I don't think it will be as easy as some people think it will be.
@@mattbison1 definitely not easy. I'm excited to see the more athletic strongmen (who now also have huge static lifts?!?) becoming more common. Losing a few points overall at 30kg bodyweight less is going to be better long term for these guys.
dont think he wants to push the body that hard. hed have to gain 50 lbs and push supplements
I can totally understand Loz's excitement on this one, as I and I believe thousands of others are really excited for Thor's return! I was just thinking this morning how many people actually got some prs this training week just because of all the excitement!
It'd be really awesome to see him break the ATWR in powerlifting as if I remember correctly there always was this what if a few years ago where what would happen if a strongman focused on powerlifting. I do agree Thor's bench is not gonna be as high as Dan's but I'm predicting big numbers in both the squat and deadlift to make up the difference. Imagine the scenes if he gets a 500kg squat. Unlikely, but his 460 back then seemed like a rpe8 so you never know.
Looking forward to it. Whats happening with WUS? Haven't heard anything about them since the controversy with Luke! I dont recall any WUS events last year. Please give us an update.
Maybe after Mark parted, he will re-brand and make a return. He does great Podcasts under the name 'Strong cast'. Really looking forward to their next competition since it was a much better organization. Don Idris, Mark Boyd and the whole team...
World's Ultimate Strongman was a great federation. Loved their competitions and feats of strength series when all other comps hit a hiatus during Covid 19 pandemic.
For the sport, it's gonna be very exciting. But I'm surprised that he would make that decision, with regards to his health. He's been looking amazing since losing much of his comp weight.
Always enjoy when a veteran strongman competes, as Thor is one of the last from the Z Shaw era I support this
Do 501 legit
So exciting! Looking forward to seeing what he delivers 💪🏻
So happy to hear about the return of Thor.
Hyped! Even if it's another year to wait
He did 1100 with 8 weeks prep and 460 squat which the refs made a poor call on. I'm excited for this!
Hmm why is he allowed on Arnold Strongmen classic even though he had do in strongmen competition for years ???
And all his talk about getting slimmer and more healthy boxing just to be bulking again few years after... Likely because there is no money to make in boxing...
Personally I just hope he will fail, which is all he deserves ...
But then he is still big and relatively young.
Bottom line he should not be doing it's first strongman competition back from boxing in Arnold Strongmen.
But again money talks!
S
Thor better watch he doesn't catch an injury...plus, however entertaining, this does NOTHING but hurt his overall health and longevity... ironic unless he was lying or confused before
Uncle Loz super excited about powerlifting and Auntie Liz is just like “powerlifting is boring” haha
Franco Columbu at 180lbs ….pound for pound was the strongest strength athlete!!!
Incoming Eddie Hall coming back to Strongman I would imagine. 😂
No chance he's making too much from what he's doing now.
Eddie would smash all these records of he did come back
Okay, but how heavy was Dan Bell when he set the record? How much did he weigh? Cause if Thor breaks the record, but he's gonna be 20 kilos heavier, then it's not gonna be that impressive. He would have to smash the record, not just break it by a little bit, by like 1 kilo like Eddie's deadlift. He has to stay at a respectable weight. Cause he can carry a ton of weight being '6'9 and having a huge frame. Pound for pound we'll see what he can do.
I would love to see Thor getting Larry Wheels on his team. Larry seems able to get to competition level while lean. Plus he is an inspirational person to have around... best of luck Hapthor!!! SKOLL
There's so many records, saying all time WR in PL is not even impressive sometimes. The exact record he's going for is the All-Time Raw With Wraps World Record, so wraps on the squat. He won't set the raw with sleeves, or equipped all time records.
Rather have him stay in retirement. Also find it funny he is coming back after Brian announces it’s his last WSM. Shaw and Big Z kept Thor off the top step.
Hopefully those few years out can put the bullshit with Eddie behind him and forgive the Giants Live crew for escalating it.
480 squat 450 deadlift 255 bench .. hmmmm I donno that's tough
Make your mind up dude. I'm making a come back oh no I'm not I'm retiring oh no I will come back to strongman how many times has Thor said this I've lost count 😆😆
This is going to be great for the sport!
But terrible for his health.
Ugh. Hadn’t seen any tantrums and tears since he left. Can’t wait to see him cry foul play and cheating for every event. Wish he would’ve stayed retired.
good. thor going to boxing and acting was the biggest waste of potential ever, he absolutely should have been the undisputed GOAT with his genetic advantages
Family comes first, being that weight or aiming for his previous weight is not healthy on any frame so hopefully it's some quick stint then back to healthy weight to ease the strain on his body.
Very exciting news but absolutely no chance he beats Dan Bell's record.
To me he is the 2nd best of all time. Maybe even 1st as Pudzianowsky was from a different planet.
Thor's best is only 186 lbs from the record. If he lifted me he would break the record by 14 lbs.
Who do you think could break the powerlifting record Thor or Eddie… Please let me know 3:01
