As a 3d artist I noticed a cycle in entertainment. When things get bigger and more and more bombastic, people start craving smaller more personal things. I expect that we'll go through a phase of digital art gluttony, but my hope is that there will also be a big branch of art that people love because it's real & personal. The indie-games movement was a good example for this

I agree. Im 21 now and me and my Friends really just reject a lot of modern things yes we use smartphones, yes we use social media but man there is no better feeling than using old tools to craft something or listen to music on vinyl and just drive old cars (maximum early 90s but mostly way earlier). Real live is so much more fulfilling than this stupid fantasy world most people these days are escaping into.
A philosopher (I don’t remember whom) once said, “reality exists only among interactions with other humans or nature; all other interactions are man made, and thus, artificial.”

Those of us who love photography are still going to take pictures. I spend hours at a time wandering around with my macro lens photographing things almost no one else notices. So keep sharing your wisdom, I’ll keep watching and taking pictures.

I believe it will be the other way around, people of the future will be shocked we spent all our life in this dull lame reality rather than living out in cyberspace. It also make a lot of sense to transform our civilization into a digital one, better for our environment, less resources required, more energy efficient and you can do whatever you'd like in those places, you can live in a copy of reality if that is what you want. There is this theory that the reason we have not found any highly advanced civilizations is because rather than expanding outwards they instead went inwards and live in virtual worlds.

Hehee its another way around. AI has made itself boring and obsolete. I have not seen anything amazing and must have stuff that AI has done or cgi images. They look all the same. wery few movies are good by it selfs and cgi only is prop to make story possible to show. But saddly theres sooo many movies done only to wow ppl with cgi. Like avatar. Dummest movie ever but ppl cheer it. Story wise its crap. And comparing to like alien or 2001 or original star wars it is wery possible to make good looking movies without cgi. So if you dont appresiate natures normal beauty maybe then this is for you.
One thing I learned through this channel is to have fun and do things creatively for myself primarily AI won’t change that for me
Creating art is an attempt to understand yourself, but in order to truly do so you have to share it with another consciousness. You sort of live by their response, even if you pretend not to, because it tells you something about yourself from the outside. If the population has become truly, deeply apathetic, then art no longer can inform the artist as to who they are, which is a deep, serious, emotional and psychological problem.
@@robertadams3925 Well stated. Its spiritual, if I may. We take matter and create, and that matter speaks to the population and they indeed give feedback. We need that kind of communication! We need that kind of community. What community does AI have? (Only to feed off of us batteries...our energy.)
Im glad fewer people are going to be out there in nature taking selfies and "look at me" photos. I can get back to enjoying photography

Regarding the AI thing, even though you seem super terrified of it, it think you aren't terrified enough. The AI is the most terrifying thing - there is nothing like it. It doesn't only have the potential to make fake everything, but it also has the potential to make real everything. Like it can literally take people's real world jobs and do them without anyone needing to pay it a thing, and on top of that it keeps getting better with the speed of light.
The most teffiying thing about this is the actualization of what a human life is worth. When the AI which is actually smater than any human rolls out what is the value of human intellect and work at that point? Are the people who run this world going to keep the people who aren't able to be useful to the society around? This happens with the speed of light and ones we take a step forward that step can never be made undone. Soon AI will not only be able to take all our hoppies and make us useless in those, but it can also take all our jobs and make us useless in those too.
The most terrifying thing is to now see how society treats those who fall out side of the society by not being able to get a job and hence have money. These people become homeness and society treats them like they would be cancer. People don't seem to understand that this is literally what is going to happen in 5 years for 80 % of all humans who now have a job in this world. AI will make them homeless and seen as cancer by the part of the cosiety which still has money and can do things. They will be seen as the zombies of the old world and they will be gotten rid of.
Some people naively think they will soon roll out a universal income to tackle this issue, but knowing what I know about the human nature, I think instead of universal income they will give us the hunger games in which those deebed undesirable will be eliminated just like happened in the COVID pandemic.

You said it all. The older generations will find balance because we can appreciate reality but the younger generations will probably plug themselves into the matrix.

Not entirely true. I'm 34 and I'd trade the worst day of reality over the best day of artificial dopamine rush... my reason is simple, its organic!
The fact we can build computers and virtual worlds in the first place is proof the Universe intended for this to occur, technology steer humanity forward and we simply adapt to whatever it make possible.

No it isn't. What sort of entertainment do you consume? What movies, TV programs, magazines or books are Real? Everything has been FX laden or fantastical for decades.
Currently i would argue that AI art is instantly recognizable because the more you look at it the worse it gets. With real art, the more you look at it, the better.
The arguments for or against ai art basically don't matter. It's happening. The thing people need to do is adapt and figure out how to win in the midst of an AI powered world.
Artists can still win unless they give up. Figure out how to create something better - and like any other technological leap, many will find out how to win by leveraging the new technology.
It may be that future art is not about the result, but seeing the artist work through the creative process. In fact you show the creative process in your videos, and people watch.
That probably is true - but it also means that the artist is never an artist anymore, but always an "artfluencer".
I'm not sure I like that development...
You said it perfectly Creative Process. I watch his videos because I want to learn the steps through a real person explaining it like he is right here next to me. Ai can make things easier in some areas but human touch can never be replaced plus it adds more value to art in any form.

I.e., that means I buy a painting/t-shirt/whatever not because it's a good product, but because I want to support a creator.
Which is fine I guess, but also precarious for artists:
1) one sh*tstorm because of whatever, and you lose all your revenue.
2) constant pressure to keep the viewership numbers (together with 1) ) results in total conformity.
And ultimately, that makes it boring for me as a consumer, no?
So to combat this, I'm sure there will be a niche of ever louder and more controversial people who take it further and further to get at least some reaction from a totally numbed public.
I'm not sure I want to be a part of this, neither as a consumer nor as a creator.
Maybe Markus has the right idea, and it's time to find a nice and cozy rock in the desert, or a wife with a garden...

He actually hit this pretty well when he mentioned private art, that you make a movie to show your friends and that's the extent of it, because that's the limit of it. If you wrote the most important story ever written, would the audience care? Is captain marvel in it? The plagarist ai that we have now is just an extension of corporate media, and it's been given to the masses. Paint by numbers as a form of control, not that it's necessarily intentional, but this is absolutely destroying artists. It's not destroying them financially, it's destroying their spirit, that no one any longer appreciates art. F*ck

I think the reason he got bored is because it's not challenging him enough. and its been an inconvenience vs photography. and ofc his appreciation for reality vs an interpretation of reality.
There is no substitute for reality! Doesn't matter how much gloss and sophistication is applied as humans we will always find comfort and truth in reality.

I know a lot of people are talking about going back and appreciating the imperfections of the "old" way, and I just want to say that I recently experienced the same thing with my personal photography. I have been taking photos for years now, but recently it got to the point where anyone with a phone could achieve the same photos as me with my fancy camera and hours of editing. I noticed that all photos were getting so "perfect" and just getting a good photo of whatever was in front of me was no longer enough. I started to play around more with the feel of the images I took, and began to appreciate the actual process of photography. After my grandmother gave me her father's old film camera, I started using that, and realized that it takes both of those things to a new level. I no longer take photos to get the perfect picture of what's in front of me, but more for the fun of taking photos and capturing my mood and feelings through an image.
Yes, I _could_ get a perfect representation of real life, but it's way more fun to put work into the art of photography, and truly capture a photo that holds a feel and emotion in the imperfections.
There's no saying how AI art will progress, but I know nothing is going to stop me from enjoying the picture taking process and ending up with a real photo that I can appreciate.
Take photos is like to go fishing. Maybe you won’t get any fish, but the ride is fun!
I do almost delete 90% of pictures I take. But is fun to be there and make click.

Wow. I love your HEART so much! Nothing delights me more in this world than seeing someone follow their own interests, joy, and alignment and COMPLETELY succeed and excel as a result of that.
You are a gift! By simply being yourself, you show others that it is not necessary to try to “fit in” or do what society tells us we’re “supposed” to do. (In fact, those things often keep us from joy and alignment, but are still important teachers and part of our learning to align and trust ourselves.) Alignment, joy, love, and LEARNING is what this life is about and you are living it!
I’m really just so happy to know you exist, that you have been living an extraordinary life by simply being yourself and letting Life guide and unfold in a way that was the most interesting to you. Honestly if we’re watching your channel, we’re probably not going to be the type to only crave the newest and best/most expensive, etc, we are after the real life, make it work, do what you have to do. There’s always going to be a group that craves the vinyl record, the film photograph, the real behind the ai
I have been watching the videos you made and make on a regular basis. I’m here to stay brother. The video you made call, “Your Effect on History” really touched my girlfriend’s and my heart. We just fell in love with your UA-cam channel with the kind words you said. I have been a photographer/videographer since I was sixteen years old (now 51) and I feel the beauty in the world the way you do. I want to capture as much of the beauty as I can right now in the moment. I raised my children to see it too. My oldest, he is now a videographer and captures as much beautiful moments he can for people in their weddings. He loves doing this because it’s an art. I just see AI structures taking true balance of beauty and destroying the real images, the perfectly good images of a camera and ruining it for what is truly real. Realism is starting fly out the window and we don’t know what to believe is reality anymore. I purchased an AI powered program for my very highly capable computer. The images of me looking so clean and free of imperfections it’s just scary. I can only think the many thousands of dollars I have invested into having a studio in my home has been a waste of money. Smartphones are doing the job that I have done for years in less time and without having the third party with the knowledge how to create a beautiful image from experiencing the tricks passed down to me, from learning from my mistakes. AI is scaring me to death. I just hope I can still photograph people and save their memories for them. I hope these people can still see the value in having a physical photograph to hang on the walls is beyond amazing having been done using the lighting and shadows and still seeing the artwork and the beauty of that photograph.
This is why black and white film photography is making a comeback.
People will need to carry on creating art, it may not be hyper realistic stuff, but it's the effort they put into it, and feeling some satisfaction in the journey, as they say.
I feel the same way! I am good at a lot of things and art and photography are a couple things. I stopped doing art, even though I had done that most of my life. I was not passionate about it. Then everyone got into digital photography and I quit that too. Just because you bought a camera doesn't mean you have the eye for it or know how to shoot images. I get so bored with stuff. I do music now and am slowly getting fed up with the business now too. It's all a stupid competition anymore.
The other problem with AI is it's generating images using STOLEN artwork!! UGH!
Apparently things will have to get horribly destructive in order for some of us to push back against it and vow to never again allow things to get so bad. And then it will likely repeat again in the future because many of us are able to forget the lessons of life.

I'm still madly in love with the Mojave Desert, from my short year there in the 1980's! Knowing even what little I know about your amazing artistic talent and pure, creative genius, I understand why you would be upset. If it helps, I was thoroughly impressed with your city models and the sets you created. Yes, your paintings do look like photographs, which is incredible. To have all of that talent under-appreciated has to be frustrating. As I live alone and haven't a single friend in the world, I use my 3-foot-tall Belle, from Disney's 1991 "Beauty and the Beast" doll as my model for photography. She's helped improve my studio lighting, and I have lots of great photos of her. Lately, I've also been using her to create some fun AI pictures. In fact, I just picked up an 11"x14" print of one of those pictures from Walgreens, this morning. I put myself in that one, too. As I have no artistic talent, AI allows me to create some fun pictures. I did my brother's nice 1963 Ford Falcon convertible, where it was rusted out and up on blocks (not like real life). I also did his 1968 Corvette and 1939 Hudson with AI. He has several other cool cars and motorcycles, too.
Thank you Markus, I really enjoyed this very much. It brought me back down to Earth. We gotta remember the little things in life.

I think people will eventually get tired of "perfect" art that came with no human effort, and they'll want to revert and pay more for imperfections and human work. I, for one, have no ambition to go towards AI. I like to keep things simple and humanized. I appreciate all that you do, Markus, and I appreciate you bringing up this discussion! 💚
Then AI will make less perfect art. There will be no room for human art. AI art will be everywhere and so much of it that there won't be any room for human made art.

An old hand sewn quilt is worth more than new. Some machines are programmed to make errors so it seems they were made by a person.
Markus, this is one of your best segments (not that others are great as well). As an artist, I learned the airbrush (Iwata has been my favorite). I still have it unused for the last 20 years because Photoshop made it obsolete. I started to paint more abstractly. But even that is now replaced by AI. Luckily, I went to art schools and learned the craft of jewelry manufacturing in Switzerland. The takeaway is that we need to reinvent ourselves to stay ahead.

Hey Markus, Bravo. This was surreal for me as I've literally been in the exact same situation as you and as I looked over your channel realized the similarities are extraordinary. We've been living in parallel Universes! It kind of looks like my wife and I (Tabitha Stevens) are a weird mirror of you and Cara even down to having survived Hollywood and now living in Vegas (Summerlin). At any rate we 100% feel the same thing you are in this evolving AI epoch. Strange times indeed and quite unsettling. I've spent 30 years as a producer, director, cinematographer, fine art photographer and having hard earned skill sets devolve to the push of a button is wildly horrifying. Also... super psyched to hear you two are hitting Death Valley area. We've been doing that for ages and I've been something of a filming adventure madman all over the Southwest my entire life. If you are ever in need some off-grid locations which are truly mesmerizing near Las Vegas where you won't see another human let me know... my Google Earth has about 2,000 location pins in it! Totally agree with you and I relate to the ‘frustration’. I came from film days as and assistant to a commercial photographer where boss is strict and serious, I would beg for a piece of info or advice to learn. What I’ve received till date is the process and memory that is very precious and personal to me, nothing to prove. Today people are not interested in the joy and process of learning and only interested in getting the result to show and bring attention to themselves, the hits the likes and so forth. What I pity them is that they are rob of the wonderful experience and memory of the learning process. Just imagine a baby is born and without the process of growing and learning, he is brought to adulthood in a min in a special machine. He thought its acceleration but actual fact he is rob of the process of learning n joy of growing tat makes who we are and our character. It’s going to be a cold and selfish world we are going into. Sad but true !

I think you nailed this. Most people don’t care and will just go with whatever the universe feeds them, “That’s cool, I want more of that. They say (who are they?) this is the best and I must have it.” We are in the middle of a sea change and not for the better. You’ve presented a lot to unpack, and most people just leave that stuff in the boxes. We are living in interesting times.
You should note the four or five people on Instagram that like the flower and sunset photos and follow them back.

I bought your artbook years ago and still look at it from time to time. I love it and think it's a great portfolio of your previous work. I like drawing myself and I totally get it. I can spend a day on a drawing and it gets 15 likes on Instagram and then there are people that "make" AI Art and it gets 5,000 likes. Honestly, AI Art doesn't really impress me much. It all looks the same to me and while it does look superficially nice it just doesn't do much for me. I prefer looking at art made by real artists (yes I said it.) Real art has all sorts of details and nuance that I just don't see in AI Art. I've always been sensitive to spiritual energy and such and I feel a lot of Spiritual Energy radiating off of your artwork in particularly. Many of you paintings feel as if they are "light coded." I personally enjoy all your posts weather they have you and/or Cara in them and I like posts about nature and such too. I like variety myself. I like both this channel and your other channel because it's real and authentic and that's what I love. :)

As an experimental filmmaker, I feel your pain.
So what I do is create for myself, for my own satisfaction and if some else appreciates my work that's fine, but it is not the reason that motives my creativity.
It would help for more people to practice or appreciate the act of creating as opposed to just consuming. In our saturated media-sphere, it would likely take challenging, nuanced introspection. There's always going to be a disparity, but fostering a population with an appreciation for the effort it takes to create the objects, images, and stories that fill our world would be a net positive.
I think you are right to a point. I DO think that AI will iterate and feed on itself and go off in very extreme directions which will differentiate it from more realistic work. Remember, painters who saw the first photograph did NOT feel really great!
I think eventually the AI “art” will eventually make people come full circle and hunger for real human-created art but it could take a long time, maybe taking humanity to breaking point first.
I really feel this deep into my heart. I feel so sad, I have 2 small kids and I honestly don’t know if they’re gonna experience the “real” world. What I’ve always had challenges setting goals for the future and aim towards that, therefore I’ve often just drifted along in my life. But now it’s just like I don’t even believe in a future at all. Recently discovered you Markus and I’m happy that you exist and that you spread your thoughts and wisdom, some about the photography but mostly as a human. All the best and keep it coming. I have to say, I don't watch your videos to learn about cameras, that is just a bonus. Your stories and the way you express your self is very entertaining. I am glad I found this channel a while ago, just realized I had never subscribed until now.

true this is a weird time to be an artist or a content creator but the thing I think you are missing is.. yes there are a lot of content creators that want to be acknowledged and be followed by millions but let's not forget that there are simple people who just enjoy the process and thinking of sharing their experiences
for us creators it's about capturing the moment and being creative. for the viewers it's about the human behind the camera and the authenticity and experience they can embrace. ❤
thats good point. it was sad realization that I read many companies have stolen photos for marketing campaigns... it is not exception more like rule.... big money campaigns, without permission. Perhaps some low level employee was crunched to deadline and wanted to go home. But also many companies think they are so big they can do whatever.
That's why Id expect interesting turn in marketing and communication, coz ppl are overwhelmed with fake good stuff, so authenticity, perhaps simpleness(not simplicity necessarily, excellent artists and other creative people can compact huge number of meaningful things to small, easily enjoyed package(eg oldschool painting, 1minute video and so on), not 2hour movie few can get to see) will be key.
You made our family think deep at all levels. Keep doing you, forget those who don't care the beauty of what you do the way you like to create. I remember when I told someone who had many tattoos I wanted one. She said, you don't have any? I said no, she told me, be the one who never got one, now you are different because everyone 3lse does. Take this story and analyze it. You are now doing and creating the way other's aren't. Blessings 😊
Markus, I understand your concerns. I am of a similar vintage to you, I grew up in a world when things were great, fun, we all enjoyed each others company and friends were real friends. We all perfected skills in music, art, sports and intellect and everybody respected each other and were happy for others achievements. Nobody really compared material things. In time family members would purchase new homes, cars etc and everyone congratulated them and were happy for them. There was none of the jealousy and envy we see today. One thing I have noticed since social media platforms came about, more and more people have become jealous, greedy, distrusting and riddled with envy. Not all friends are friends anymore as people are just competing against each other in so many ways. 'ayy eye', yes I wont even give it the satisfaction of typing it, is just a carry on effect of what social media has been grooming. De-socialising the planet, not for all but for those who are addicted to these cyber drugs. You and possibly many readers on this channel do see the right path to follow and feel saddened by what the world appears to be evolving into. It is a phase that people will endure, many will succumb to the saturation it will cause but the key is to be true to yourself, family and friends. The world will re-adjust, people will wake from this insidious moment in time and once again realise what life is about but unfortunately there will be many who will be forever lost in this changing world. Don't despair, don't worry about what you can't fix......let things move as they do but always understand who You are and what you have and will achieve as these are what it is in being human, understanding your place in society and your mark on humanity be it big or small.

Hopefully, if we all stick to our passions and set a good enough example, there will be more of the younger generation wanting to find that same joy in creating something on their own and just using AI as a useful tool when needed. I''m so grateful I was a teenager in the 70s and young 20's in the 80s. Great music great clothes, lots of authentic creativity and a nicer world. The 80s was the best music clothes and creativity was aamazing and great films during that time also.

I’ve loved photography for my whole adult life. I tried to get into making video and was overwhelmed with color, sound, editing and all this. I realized that I didn’t like it. The best way for me to relax is to just carry my camera around and take pictures of anything that appears interesting to me. This causes me to go out and enjoy the world. Life is the blessing.

Wow Markus, you sound a bit discouraged. I'd hate to see that because a lot of my attraction to the channel is the obvious passion you have for what you do. I worked in film professionally early in life, left to pursue a science career, and returned after retirement. I don't have to do it for a living or try to please an audience at this stage. My passion comes from my relationship with the material. I don't think the issue is the technology, and, to be honest, a lot of this has been around for decades. All that's changed is the user interface made it easy for non-technical people to apply their values to it. And we've certainly seen that happen before, most notably in music. But I don't think you really do what you do for likes. And even if you're only 1 in a million, that means that, somewhere, there's at least 7,000 other people who relate to what you do and the way you do it. I am one of them.
I think painters probably felt the same way when photography was invented, but AI is just a tool, a tool that can be used for the good and the bad.
And there is one thing that makes photography different from AI, AI can't capture moments and memories 🙂

good point . a painter can instantly paint on any blank surface an ai image is limited to the screen or needing other tech to transfer it .human art will always be superior .

I have been thinkering with ai ( expecially stable diffusion ) a lot. There will be chaotic "amazing" content really soon, but when people will connect their brain directly to the computer, I think ai will be able to interpret our imagination and basically create what we think in real time. There will be no need to learn the techniques to do anything, you will "only" have to be able to being meditative and focus on your thoughts. I enjoy art in lot's of different forms, I spent lots of time composing music and writing for example, My personal understanding is that we create art to improve ourself, there would be no need to share art if if there were no other people to impress or monetary gains. I appreciate AI because i think it will make lot's of people hide from the real word (witch is 90% waste of industrial mess) and this will help with the collapse of many structures and ideologies that separate us from nature. Ai is copyright infringement plain and simple. For years these algorithms have been trained on artists work without their consent! It should be illegal!
@@shoveI Ai just spews out a vomit of stolen scrapbook snippets of other peoples work. When you learn to paint, you are learning the skills necessary to paint. You are not going to the Louvre with scissors and making a scrap book out of the paintings there: that is what Ai essentially does.

This is a sobering conversation. This was actually what got me away from Photography, which I started with but had to move away from when I realized my wife was taking photos with her phone and using a couple of Instagram filters and it was looking great. Meanwhile I was spending so much time on photoshop and technical aspects of my photos. So, I moved to video. I spent so much time on learning that craft and now I realize AI is going to replace that as well! I don't know what's next... maybe VR or AR... but it seems like we're running away from a monster that will eventually catch up. :/

I am a voice teacher from the classical tradition. I resist auto-tune and I love the little mistakes we once heard in recordings. I still work on my voice the same way I did in the 90s. There are many benefits to doing things the classical way. We have to do our part to preserve this part of our culture! Keep going. We love you.

I've talked and written about this subject and it continues to be a deep place of concern and interest for me...the idea of us losing our essential humanity to a virtual world of avatars, fake pictures, hyped-up imagery, auto-tuned songs, social media influencer culture, selfies, and artificially accentuated everything. I loathe it in every way. I miss the world before 2012, especially before 2001. I do my best to continue to pursue relationships, time in nature, immersion into things I care about, and an outward looking focus to keep learning. I wish you and your loved ones the best, good sir. Never stop loving the true things, the good things in our world...no matter what others are obsessed with. I've taken people into the wilderness who don't usually go for that kind of thing and it changes them when they really give it a chance. Wishing you much joy and abundance.

Weirdly as a fan of sci-fi I can take some satisfaction in the absolutely crazy time we're all entering into. Yes to all the concerns you mentioned. But also, it's mind blowing to get to live through this era when I can have an intelligent, nuanced conversation with a computer.
Hey Markus. I had a similar existential moment about this. We are headed into some weird times. Artists have a way of staying hungry and will find other ways of finding and filling the void. Part of my life is as a muso, I just play to small groups...it's enough, and that is the question...how much is enough. Stay strong mate (Australian term of endearment).
Pausing the video 10 seconds in. Holy shit man, somehow the algo suggested one of your earlier videos where I saw the fx you did in the 80's/90's, then I decided to check your channel and found this video. The content of this video is exactly something I've been dealing with for several weeks now. AI isn't true AI, but a sort of plagarism shorthand that could expedite vfx, concept art, etc., and these are easily the cornerstones of cinema magic. I had to stop 10 seconds in to say this, eager to now watch the rest of the video. I hope we can all still feel inspired in this new world, but the shortcut that pseudo "ai" has presented developers with, circumventing artists and vfx designers, has seriously tested my inspiration to create lately. Thanks for sharing everything.
Holy shit man, "nobody cares." This is why games are removing their single player content and just making mulitplayer kill boxes. Why hire an extra 80 people to write and direct a script when the people will buy whatever's put in front of them, it all comes down to the publisher and marketing, not the product. Last weekend I took pictures of the little birds behind our house, trying to get them short before landing or starting to fly. It have been amazing 2 hours for me and I got very nice pictures even there are no extraordinary birds.
People were fascinated by these pictures, because you normally can‘t see these very short moments .. I love to show normal things but special moments and perspectives.. and knowing, that was real!
Yes, KI will change a lot, but the more they are flooding the world with unreal fantastic pictures, the more they will be becoming worthless..
You are so echoing the feelings that I've been having.
I had made comments as far back as 15 years ago, after the over "PhotoShopping" of images had already become so wide spread, that if I'd known that it was going to come to that I'd have learned 3D modelling software and really gotten into PhotoShop and would have just created my own Models (that were exclusive to me) and just created everything in the computer. I was still thinking along the lines of shooting real locations and props.
I've said for a long time that "we knew that we were in trouble when PhotoShop became a verb."
I enjoy your videos, you are entertaining and insightful and even introspective at times like in this video.
I think that there will be a rebellion to this trend where at least some artists will want to actually create real world images but the Genie is definitely out of the bottle.
I do find it ironic that this trend is blowing up at the same time that some are making a move back to actual film. The latter are definitely in the minority.

This a great video and on some levels I relate to your anxiety. It sounds like your frustrated because your seeking validation and not getting it. Like when you posted that beautiful flower and no one responded- why does it matter ? My personal journey has made me realize it’s easy to get lost when your focused on how others respond. Social media is horrible for that. I think it more important to say something honest and personal and be honest with yourself about the work you make. If your lucky enough to find and audience - great! If not - at least you have found fulfillment and nourishment in producing the work. You can never predict what others will think about your work- don’t even try. If your focus is to please an audience I do not think that’s a good road to go down. I am glad you shared your thoughts in this rant. Stopping to assess where we are and where we are going is very important to the journey of discovery we call life. AI is going to intrude upon areas we do not suspect, we will have to adapt. I hope we all retain a love for the beauty of nature. Spot on - and from a person like me that is focusing on creating 'as real as possible' experiences online, I can see where what I do could be replaced - in fact Google's latest venture into Immersive View is doing just that, combining lidar data and images with just a simple mobile phone.
I think, like you, when I capture a scene, it's not just to be viewed and appreciated, it's to encourage people to go experience the real thing for themselves. Whether it be a business, a beach, a mountain view, I want people to say, hey I want to go there in person too and really feel what it's like to be there. Up till now, the best I have known to do that is 360° photos and virtual tours. But now... AI could 'fake' all that.

I understand that you don't like to paint, but those are amazing! I would love to be able to paint even a percentage of that. I have played with AI. I also believe it could be an issue with pretending to be someone else.
Great video. Very thoughtful. Just like with anything else, AI can be used for good or for bad. There will be a few who will misuse this technology to impersonate people and, as you mentioned, attempt to ruin their reputation. But I think that, when used properly, AI can be a great tool. It still will take creativity in order to word your prompts correctly
Over the past few weeks, I have watched many tutorials on Mid-Journey in order to create storyboards, pitch decks, etc. I, myself, have been using ChatGPT for the last few weeks to get ideas for scripts. Also I have used RunwayML to do rotoscoping and aging an actor in a video.
I still love photography/videography and now, as I've gotten older, can appreaciate landscapes and still life. So thank you, Markus, for these videos. I really do enjoy them.
I totally agree, I was freaking out about the Ai especially the Chat gpt when I asked it to write a short story in a certain style of a famous author and I only gave it a subject and the result was creepy! I think it is way scarier than just Artists careers being in danger… it can get so complicated to the point where our limited brains won’t be able to handle it and the Ai will just leave us in the dust and move on! Same way we smash our hands on a mosquito just to get rid of it!

The world is a strange place and seems to be getting stranger by the minute. You speak from your heart, which resonates with me and I suspect with your audience. It seems frightening what AI will be able to do in the future but even now AI understands our sensory reality and is impacting it in ways we don't understand. What I am really concerned about is what happens when AI understands how to manipulate our feelings in ways we may not ever understand ourselves...... The best advise which is repeated in the comments, continue to create because you can, and for fun. While I have never met you I value what you say but more importantly how you say and the purpose of what you do. Have faith we can get through the changes of the future! The best thing we can all do it vote with our time by unplugging more and for longer periods of time. Love what you do!
I think the most importnt thing and the last thing you can do is be yourself. You didn't have a backdrop or anything fancy behind you. Yet, your raw self is what captivated me and had me watching this entire video. There are alot of people who couldnt care less. But there are people watching behind a screen that would love to have a personal and physical conversation with you. Some people would enjoy your coffeetable paintings. They care about what youre passionate about and what knowledge you have to give. Thats what drew me to subscribe. You are a genuine person who loves filmmaking and that alone is reasdon enough to keep posting. Don't let AI discourage you. Nothing is better than whats real.

I truly believe we will enter a two earth system, I am a massage therapist and I have been saying to my clients “you have 2 roads in front of you, it’s time to make a choice, do you choose the unhealthy, live in the “follow others” road, or the other road is stay in nature, eat from nature, breath nature, talk to the animals, hug a tree”? I have already chosen the later, just today saved a Dragon Fly who accidentally got into my pool cage, following it around with a pool scoop/net saying “let me help you out”, I finally got him out. We leave this rattan chair (not the greatest shape) in the pool area, it’s home of the lizards Harold and Lucy , can’t get rid of their home🥰 Lots of Love to you, Marcus and Cara… I believe we are entering the Age of Aquarius and it’s an Age of Love and Technology…I will stick with mostly Love/Nature and a bit of tech. We are aproaching to an edge, a good one, when we will be hating spend a weekend marathoning on Netflix, cathing up on social media, upgrading every firmware on every device... Why a good one? We will be getting back to basics. Spend the whole weekend enjoying nature, real in person conversations, un-connected family time... As you say, all this hyper-reality will collapse or implode... and we will be back to the basics. Keep an eye on theather, real person performances, a little jazz players on a small spot on New Orleans and stuff like that. We will back tyo analog at some point. Great video !!
Interesting concept. I find nature fascinating, to truly connect with the animals, insects, trees everything that greets you if you are aware of it and I think that's what's wrong with people they are lacking in awareness. The energy of nature is off the charts when you bring yourself to stop and take notice. People are seeing around them in an superficial point of view not truly seeing life in reality. Sad that people think "who cares, what's the point anymore". And "what's life for, or life is way to hard, I just want to give up". Hope we can change their minds someday. I guess we just have to be happy ourselves and enjoying nature in depth and seeing the unusual things that's all around us. Life is really cool... I'm 71 years young and haven't given up on life. This is one of my montras I say a lot "I love life and life loves me".

No more slow fades to another scene..
Quick flashes of footage.... if you can still call it footage anymore..

I think some of this stuff is done in real poor taste.. by people thinking that it sells...

Hollywood has expounded upon a true lack of imagination trying to copy old themes and scenes and incorporate High Tech effects and over doing it... with them..

Sometimes when you read a book about something they make a mobie about and your mind makes up the characters.. changes in scenery etc..
And you go see the movie and as you are sitting there watching you end up saying to yourself...
Nah, nah, nah.. they got that character all wrong.. or that setting looks like it was shot the dark and they wasted too much time and money on these blasted new effects.. and it does have a lot to say about addictiveness of the new flashy stuff and getting carried away with it..

Being blessed with artistic ability is a quality that must be appreciated. Look at architecture, art music etc… Without art life is boring and unfulfilled. Picasso is a great example of making art that is not mathematically harmonious. There is beauty in imperfection because that is life.

I’ve been a content creator on UA-cam for 17 years. I’ve seen a ton of changes. Folks are overwhelmed with to much content and it’s effected view count and engagement. I’ve thought about quiting many times. But I always think about why I started a channel and it was because I love content creating and helping people. I believe because of that it’s allowed me the freedom to create what I want to create and not worry about views likes and comments. There are folks that will always complain but there are also folks that still need and want the personal connection.
I’m a small channel and I like it. I can get to know people over time.
