This mechanic reminds me a bit of Sanabi, which I really enjoyed. 😊

I like the idea of grappling hooks in games, but I usually struggle to control them. There is a platformer series called Umihara Kawase that is based on this mechanic. I’ve tried a number of them, and I can see they are thoughtfully designed - but I rarely get to a point where I “gel” with the controls. The physics in those games is moderately realistic, and the level designs create lots of clever and challenging situations. I guess my brain is too accustomed to “Mario jumps” to smoothly adapt.
Another game that uses this mechanic is FlintHook. Really nice rogue-lite game from several years back. I do somewhat better in that one, but struggle a little with the grappling. As much as I love the idea - to me, on some level it’s not as intuitive as running, jumping, shooting, etc.

Yeah, it's always tough. Flinthook I absolutely adore, a nice challenge and it worked pretty sensibly. Another with pretty great grappling that I found very approachable was Kunai and I sadly don't often see it even get a mention

Respectfully disagree. The grappling hook mechanic is fun, at first. Before too long, it takes Rusted Moss from being a metroidvania and makes it more of a physics based, precision platformer. Pretty sure the reason for the devs including so many adjustable settings, including the ability to fly, is because they couldn’t get through their own game with the grappling hook that acts way more like a bungee cord.

I'm with you on it not being great, something I ended up emphasizing in the review, including not giving them an out from the angle of accessibility options which feel more like an admission they know it's problematic than trying to help. That said, I think it's made for the folks who want to be challenged and something different, which it accomplishes. But yeah, for grappling I'd choose something like Kunai by a huge margin since there it's completely intuitive.

U mean like Bionic commando? Not the shooter version but the platformer version.
Way I see it , this game is pretty similar to that but that game still handled like a metroidvania despite platformer style gameplay.
