Honestly as a long time player, I play this game just as a relaxed side game and a reminder to check out the banger new lament every once in a while from their official channel. BOI defintely sent all their budget and empolyee to the art and music department while there's little to no one in the game production department. The main part of the stories are gatekeep by each of the pull characters. Each character have a side story lament where you can read their backstory (after obtaining them through gatcha) that helps build a picture of the world, the chronological sequence of events, and various character ties as well as their titles in the game. The backstories are certainly very dark and emotional at times with some of my favorites being A.A, soltina / evenlyn, the pope / Alexandra, ruslka, amuleth / ophelia / alt amuleth, and the most recent natasha / alt natasha. I strongly agree it is such a let down BOI not add these wonder side story into a campaign mode or some sort for the boss battle progression as it can easier make it one of the best game with it's very rich story building, but i guess it's only a distant dream. Treat this game as a side game to relax when you want to have your brain be idle for 10-20 minutes. Just log in, put your favority lament in the music selection, swiftly do the daily quest, and either log off or use the music player function.
The watercolour art is so beautiful. I wish we'd get more games using that art style. Damn didn't think it'd be that tight with the materials. Sad to see how predatory the monetisation is here.
I think this could've truly been a great game if the functional actual game part was something as special and high quality as the rest of it and it wasn't after your wallet so much. I'd probably play this to death if not for that.
Wait no story? That's the main reason I play gacha! And the characters look like they'd be perfect for a really deep and emotional one. I guess I won't be bothering to try it out after all.
The story was actually phenomenal! For the 5 minutes it was available. I thought we'd get into something deep and messed up, but it just disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again haha.
You get an idea of what's going on from new character Lore from time to time (poor Ilya) but otherwise that's it.
Given the way new stages are balanced (or more like not balanced) at least avoids frustration about clearing them to see how it goes.

You really have to be there for the music and characters (they are amazing) because the gameplay is non existent

as a veteran f2p player i agree with you i have been stuck at the 200 wall for 5 months now it is hard to progress without paying but the main problem with this game is not leveling that is easy the main game is getting gear it's the art, music and community that keep me playing this game i really love this game
it is possible to pass the level as long as you know how to use characters and counter them and most importantly reapet the game till you beat the level a level 180 character can beat a level 250 character as long as you try hard enough
the story is told in elden ring style from the characters
Fellow f2p here. If you are feeling stucked on resources, espcially red orbs, I recommend to save your gems before finishing chapter 11 (finish all 11-xx) campaign missions to unlock the invocation of chance tickets. You will want to exclusively pull this banner for any limited or existing characters as this banner not only have way higher rate up chance, gives 10 boxes of convertible 8 hrs resources to either green or red orbs, and also drop satan set scrolls for powerful gear combos without the need to pull gears with gems (sadly michael set still need to be seperate pulled). This will help you grow your character much much faster until 5 lvl 240 and unlock the skill link tree that will accelerate your comp's battle power. Then at this point, all your character will be decently viable with skill link tree sharing the highest level to all character that you put into the tree. It made me regret quite abit for wasting so much gems on rate up cursed banner pull when i could have save it for this.

I wanted to try the game because of how many ads there were, and they all have been beautiful so far. But what bothered me is that I didn't see any gameplay. Hah, turns out there isn't any? Thanks for this review, I really needed to hear an opinion about Memento Mori.

This game is a good side business. Its very popular in JP and there are demand for it. Various types of bots are available unofficially to mass create accounts, making it easier to progress and then profit off from selling these accounts off
To be honest, I think you complimented the game wayy too much. Yea, the watercolor art looks good. But its also incredibly lazy. The characters have zero animation outside of their "skill" which is a half second long if for whatever reason you aren't just using the quick battle button. The world map water colors look nice, but the map has zero interactivity. There's nothing of substance. The ONLY thing they put effort into is the music, which is pretty much the game's selling point. There's zero story. Every aspect of the game is insanely P2W. Pay to enhance characters, and pay shit loads to roll on the gacha. And it's not like its monetized well either. Everything in the game is insanely expensive. If you want to roll on the gacha you're all but forced to spend because you get extremely small amounts of currency through gameplay. At the end of the day, the game is 99% dead everywhere except Japan, where it's actually doing surprisingly well. Because the Japanese audience who likes idle games like a game where they can do nothing, spend money, and get progression.
If you want to play an idle game, play Eversoul. Its almost in a league of it's own with how F2P friendly it is. You can get every character, costume, town decoration, etc all for free. And if you're a spender it'll elevate your experience even more. If you're a F2P to moderate spender, then play Nikke. I was a day 1 player for Mememto Mori and I gave up a few months in because progression literally just stops without taking out your credit card.
yeah Memento Mori was the most entertaining letdown the year it came out, but no way is the worst, not even a hater could justify it being the worst
I played MM when it first launched, and I instantly fell in love with the aesthetic. The water color backgrounds and the unique character music was entrancing.
... But, that all came crashing down when I learned that time-limited characters weren't added to the standard banner, and a player would need around 21 copies of the same unit to hit max rarity.
As much as I love the music, I cannot condone that kind of predatory business practice. It highly incentivizes FOMO.
Shame... This could have been something good if the publisher and developer weren't solely focused on money.
I have 2 accounts, P2W and F2P in different servers/worlds. Yeah true, the competition for this game is really high. If you can't resist the urge to use your Cc, don't even try to play this game. But in the other hand, when I tried to make a new acc with the intention it's totally gonna f2p, and yeah you can still enjoy it.. I progress through the story or other contents with a good pace. I can even compete with other f2p or p2w players at rank 20-40 of Battle league. It's a gacha game, either you use money for speeding up your progress or just be patience
Memento Mori Ah Yes, 0 Gameplay, Only Thing Saving It Is Peak Art And Music, It's good as a side game rather than a main gacha game you'd play all the time

This game lost me the moment I realized the battle system was entirely on autopilot, because:
A) if I wanted to watch and be uninvolved, I'd open youtube or twitch
B) I could almost smell the money-grubbing "oh buy this resource pack to level up your worthless squad"
Such a shame a great ost and art style got wasted on such a shit game

Yeah the fact the afk games encourage you to not play and then add difficulty spikes the encourage you to get more isn't really a good method to maintain a player base 😅

I quite onece i know there is no story after start, and you need copies of ur char in order to progress few lvl after that repeat this cycle again

Stopped playing while ago... Got decently far but quickly hit a wall that i couldnt overcome even with consulting pve meta lineups. (Mainly bc of my dogpoop gacha luck...Rusalka come home plz)

Currently i am stucked at a certain fight. You can't win if you are below the required BP (currently 4.2 Mil) and the game Is so rng that of you spam the fight you can still win but you'll lose hours of time brute forcing the victory
Game like this is one of the reason why normal player despite gacha game, and overall, free to play or live service game. Such quality are totally wasted by brutal and greedy microtransaction.
There is a reason game like DOOM 2016, DOOM Eternal and Space Marine 2 earn so much love and respect by the people. Proper experience without bs microtransaction like Battlefield 2042, Concord.

1 question i have why do you call the series worst gacha ever feels way too click bait as obviusly the gachas you play are often good or decent atleast have a fann base. If you wanted too find the worst gachas for example y coud just play 1 of the 1000 cheap idel gachas out there . Like its cool you showcasing some gachas taht arent fully mainstream but i just feel the name isnt fitting ist more like hidden gem ? if you get waht i mean . Besides taht one "problem" i do think your content is quit good .
