    Very nice points to daygecko nutriation. I learned some new things. Thank you! My idea to feet calcium is to put a little bowl of sepia powder in the tank. If she needs calcium she can get it there. The powder "survives" some around a week, then it will get crusted oder gets yellow/orange. Then it is time to change it.

    Awesome video, was looking forward to this for a while. The JCP looks awesome. I know mine is definitely small for her age but I think her previous owner wasn't feeding her enough, and I didn't want to suddenly start feeding her more and trying to do it gradually. She seems to be loving her new enclosure though which I'm super happy about. Just struggling to keep up humidity even with a fair bit of sphagnum in there and I think thats why the springtails dont seem to be establishing themselves too well..Glad to see the day gecko is healthy and doing well too!

      Thanks for watching Harvy! Yes, humidity is a pain for me as well. I think it's better to have an animal that was slightly underfed, than overfed. They are much more capable on physiological level to handle a caloric restriction over a caloric excess, so your carpet should to just fine now that she is with you and in her awesome new setup!

      No problem, always like these quality videos you put out with a ton of useful information and it's so cool seeing the animals they are just awesome.Yeah I had/have that issue with one of my leopard geckos, her last owner fed her solely on super worms and waxworms. She has taken to locusts really will but I'm still trying to steadily get her weight down a little more. She is super active and moves around very well now, and finally installing the UVB last month will help them both in that set up for sure.Thanks again for the insight!I was actually quite surprised how quickly she got settled in that set up, glad to know your guy has too! Made me laugh picturing him stretching out on the branch then coiling back haha

    Ahh they as little Jungles do like to have their prey nice and warm and if it does cool down they wont eat it. As they get older this of course wont bother him as much but sometimes they can still be alittle fussy. Dont offer any mice to him as they will refuse rats, are very known to do this and l do have a girl that is now 5 years old and has refused rats for the past 3 years, if you want to offer something different offer chicks instead. My jungles are of course much older now but Jesse loved his high enclosure as a little one and now is in a 1400x600x1400 and l rarely see him on the ground now unless he maybe going into shed and that is when he uses a hide but not very often even so. e spend he spends most of his time laying up in his hammock. Was wonderful to see him and he is looking really great. Will start to get some growth happening around that 2 years of age and then it is amazing to see how fast they grow and get some size on them. Jesse is 4 now and a really big boy, probably bigger then average but he is a sweet jungle and easy to handle and loves the outdoors when l can get him out there for some sunshine and exercise.

      Yep, I was struggling with mine too and think I messaged both of you for advice haha seems fine now and looking back I am pretty sure it was the mice not being warm enough.Next video of her I put up is going to show 3 of her skins to show how quick she's grown since I got her hahaHope all your boys and girls are doing good! They are certainly looking well :)

      @@WhoTheHellIsHarvy Thanks Harvy Look forward to the next video and as young snakes they sure do shed more frequently as they are doing alot of growing. That will certianly slow down as they bigger.

      Yes, I can't wait to watch him grow :) Currently this guy is on mice.... I'm having trouble sourcing rat pups. I should have some in the New Year... fingers crossed he switches!

    I am not familiar with Giant Day Geckos, or really reptiles in general yet (learning in preparation to get a snake in a few months hopefully), but I am familiar with a number of other animals including dogs, cats and various fish .... I have a hard time imagining how anyone could think massive throat swelling that looks like it would interfere with her normal activities is "healthy".

      Also, the rainbow boa is gorgeous 😍💖

      There are some reptile species that do have relatively large glands in the neck, including day gecko species… But yes this is extreme. I think some breeders tricked themselves into thinking what is “healthy“. And yes, rainbow boas are incredible! Thank you very much for watching the video!

    I've fed my Madagascar giant day calcium dusted crickets as well as crested gecko pangea powder fruit and bug mix. She's doing fine, crickets are just a few times a month and pangea is once every 3 to 4 days.

      I would recommend trying to find a crested gecko mix that doesn’t include vitamin D3. I’m going to do an episode of the podcast about this in a month or two so I’ll have more information then.

    Great info on that Day gecko. Yes, those sacks are huge. I don't think it is genetic (IMHO). If you are feeding a lot of diet over insects (or both and dusting the insects), that might be the issue. Again, just my opinion.

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  5 років тому +2

      Thanks, Wally! Yeah, I didn’t do a great job of explaining exactly what I meant by genetics. I’ve heard of people who have several female geckoes of the same age, who eat the same diet and some develop large glands and some don’t. So that’s why I was thinking there might be something genetic at play because I can’t think of any other reason there would be a variation in their gland size... but who knows! Either way the oversize glands are absolutely due to over supplementation/feeding that’s for sure!

    Great video! Very informational. So I have a quick question. Should I watch out for too much D3 with my Savannah Monitor and Knight anoles? They both have UVB and I also give them calcium with D3 but not every feeding. Also is vitamin D3 and calcium D3 the same? I hear people call it both names but I'm not sure which one they are talking about.

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching, I’m glad you found it informative! If you’re keeping up-to-date with your UV bulbs i.e. changing them every 6 to 12 months then I wouldn’t even supplement D3 at all. They’ll be producing sufficient D3 from the lighting. I would buy calcium powder that doesn’t contain D3 as supplementing with calcium is still necessary. When you see a product named “calcium D3” it is simply a mix of calcium powder and vitamin D3. In other words there are three different supplements you can buy, calcium alone, D3 alone, or a mix of both. I recommend going with simply calcium and UV lighting!

    Really informative video man love the content..I do have a carpet python and was thinking about doing a taller /arboreal setup but I'm wondering how you maintain warm temps on the bottom of the tank if the heat bulbs are at the top ? What are your temps and how can I achieve proper temps in a enclose the same size as yours ? Thanks man

      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  5 років тому

      Hey mike, thanks for watching! I actually have a heat mat on the bottom of the enclosure as well. If you watch my DIY Arboreal enclosure video it should answer all your questions regarding heat. But definitely let me know if you still have questions after watching it!
