nevermind, after watching your video again I saw it and determined it was the float valve. I pulled it and dug some trash out of it. Seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks

yep very very good demo. i have done lots and lots of them. all years that they made them. that float setting of 1/4. was used on ALL that i every worked on. how ever the AFB carb was on lots of diff brands and engines. with Carter AFB float setting has a lot of diff settings. but i find 5/16 to work good on all most all engines. i like that you use a Chrysler factory service manual. i dont trust any one else. i have about 20 Chrysler manuals.

Nice tyler! I have not messed with a BBD in quite some time, but I just picked up a 71 W200 headed to scrap heap, hadn't run in years its running now but like a turd, just ordered a rebuild kit for my BBD, and looks like ill have to get a distributor (my points plate is locked up, diaphragm in op. I excited about rolling down the road in this beast.

Thanks Tyler I can see it in my manual but watching on doing it helps with doing it.not that many shops I know of that still work on them.i got my carborator at AutoZone says it has a life time warranty but when I called and said should I bring it in or do you get the replacement first they were like we only replace it if it's broken not if it needs adjusting so if it's spilling gas out all over the top take it and get it adjusted.oh.humm

I don't think so but there are two balls and each are different sizes.
It would probably render the accelerator pump non-functional.

OH i need to add something on that carb. if you OVER tighten the rear two screws you will warp the casting. so ONLY tighten them the right amount. the castings are hard to straighten if warped. of course you do check all the castings for warpage when you start working on it.

Is it possible to instal the discharge/intake ball backwards? What would happen?

I have this carb to overhaul, its stock for my 1989 YJ Jeep, I was taking it apart and the larger ball fell out but I wasn't sure where it went back, thanks for showing me.
I was wondering where is the best place to buy a carb kit for this...from?
    backyard gal mechanic :)

most any autopards store should have one, ya already know carter bbd, is the model so a rebuild kit usually not too expensive and will cover most all parts and inude a small spec sheet/instruction booklet that covers several things like he just show you. the booklets aren't great by any means but good enough most of the time

I just bought a 78 d100 and the fitting on the front of the carb is leaking. My manual calls it a rotery valve. Any idea what that is or does. Could this be the reason my truck dies at redlights and wont restart until it cools? Any help would be appreciated

that may be heat soak, fuel gets too hot fuel vapours doesn't burn well and doesn't run right till it cools. aluminum foil under the float brown and around the fuel filter (if close to engine) will usually help for a quick fix preventative measure

Dammit where exactly does the big ball go in the center on the the groove in front in back

Sounds like you have way too much gas through the carb. The float adjustment you did should cure it. If not, it probably needs overhauled which will provide a new needle and seat. You can tell if it's running too rich because the exhaust will be smoky and burn your eyes.
