She's usually so poised. It amazing to see her so vulnerable.
Years ago I once saw Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin on a crosstown bus in Manhattan going over sheet music together I almost died seeing those two Broadway icons together

Bernadette didn't win her first Tony in 1988. It was 1986. Joanna Gleason won in '88 for INTO THE WOODS. Peters wasn't even a contender that year.
Which was very weird because she was amazing in Into The Woods.
Jared Goerke Amazing? There was a good reason someone as popular as Ms. Peters was not nominated. She sang well her acting limitations were so evident.
No the reason was that the competition was incredibly high that year and there were people more deserving. Remember only a few people can be nominated. To each his own opinion and I respect yours but I choose to disagree.
Nick Mayor The reason had nothing to do with Bernadettes so called limitations or the competition. It actually had to do with the nominations. By the time Into the woods happened, Bernadette had established herself as a Leading Lady and even in Into the Woods it was her name and reputation that would have been affected by winning a "Best Featured Actress" Tony after winning a Leading Actress tony 2 years prior. Bernadette and Joanna both could have competed in the Leading Category but the Witchs role wasnt leading and Bernadette didn't want to compete in the Featured category.
She would of been nominated for Supporting Actress for Into the Woods, and she wasn't nominated for a Tony because she left the show due to previous commitment.
And thank you Irving Berlin 🥰
As much as I love Bernadette (and I really do), I think Carolee deserved to win the Tony this year for Parade.
