That's incredible, I honestly enjoying when I get a tape with the cameras I buy. They tell a story as to where the camera came from. But the tape you got is gold, the footage is steady and close. You should upload the show.
What a great find and price! When I spot cameras, first thing I look for is to see if it has a tape inside, if so, I'll generally buy it for that reason alone! I also peruse the tape section of the store and purposely look for used home tapes...sometimes the content is well worth the price!
I found the remote and a AC adapter in an e-waste recycle bin last night. Did some online searching and brought me here. Would be interesting to do some recording with that camera. Interesting product.
Oh wow, Kmart cassette tapes. I forgot about those cheap 3 pack tapes. Use to see those hanging up at the checkouts in stores. I'm surprised you only ever owned 1 metal tape.
I got a Sony DCR-TRV520 from May 2000. It has some issues playing tapes and the Firewire port has missing pins and doesn't work. However the condition is really good expect for some scratches on the ports.
The sound on the Peter Frampton video was surprisingly good for that small camcorder. BTW, you seem to be very computer savvy, what operating system would you recommend to replace Vista on an old laptop from 2007? (2 mb of ram) The machine is in great shape, but very slow and I wanted to still get some use out it for simple internet and word processing. Thanks.
If you can't or don't plan to upgrade the RAM, then Windows 7 Starter Edition would be fine -- it's a slimmed-down version of Windows 7 so it's faster and more lightweight, but it's limited to 2 GB of RAM and is only 32-bit.
I want a Digital8 videorecorder to convert my old childhood videos, problem is these are somehow really rare in The Netherlands, cheapest is about $ 200 used ofcourse.
I have the same camcorder, but the lcd was kinda moisty, but still functional. Do you use exposure meter setting button to balance the lighting of the recording? Cuz everytime I set to auto, the recording was so bright, so Id adjust the exposure. And what mode is suitable to any conditions?
I've just dug out my two digital8 cameras. A trv 320 and a TRV255 (that does not have analog hi8 playback, but the other one does). Watching some old footage, the microphones were good in these compared to some modern cameras, and the quality still good. I'm going to start using them!
One thing I noticed was that I could still use regular 8mm tapes on my d8 with no problems. I played my tapes back on a family members d8 camcorder and it played flawlessly.
I just found one of these today at a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store for $15. I assumed it could also play back Hi8 tapes, which is what I was hoping to use it for. Ah, well. Still a fun find.
i remember those kmart tapes have a few around. my parents got the red ones, blue ones and the rainbow ones. blue was 60 minute, red was 90 minute and the rainbow ones were 90 as well. they do hold up well for a standard cassette
Have you ever had issues with camcorders "eating" tapes all of the sudden? I have an old Panasonic one which decided to almost destroy one tape due to that and I had trouble getting it out, it was somehow wind around the motor inside weirdly... Now the tape is all wrinkled up on an almost 10 cm long path. Besides, still haven't figured out how to get Firewire working on those camcorders, still nothing detects them :(
I assume you're using a Windows PC? If your FireWire is actually installed (ie. it shows up in Device Manager), then any capture software like Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas's capture program, or WinDV should automatically detect it when it's plugged in and turned on in the playback mode.
Yeah that's the problem, I tried various different PCs and so on, even programs, drivers, etc. but none of those things worked for some reason... I suspect that the old Firewire card I first tried somehow managed to fry the chip due to a short... I hope not, but I guess that's what happened :/
Windows (confirmed up to 8.1) still has built in drivers for DV camcorders and all popular Firewire/1394 cards. You don't need any additional drivers. Mac OS X also has Firewire support. Capture works fine under both systems. In theory at least, many Linux distributions also have Firewire support. I've never had DV camcorder control or import work 100% correctly on a Linux host, however.
EpicLPer, are you by any chance connecting your camcorder to the small 4-pin connector on your FireWire card (ie. using a 4-pin to 4-pin cable)? If so, that's your problem - I've never gotten such a configuration to work. You need to use a 4-to-6 pin cable and plug the camcorder into a large 6-pin port.
Ohey uxwbill, didn't expect you here, nice videos btw! :) Also yes, I also already tried Linux, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10 (with the manually downloaded drivers) and so on on different PCs and Laptops, I even bought a VIA Firewire Card just for this case for my big main PC, nothing... So yeah, not sure anymore.
Can the Sony DCR-TRV350 camcorder playback and pass analog Hi8 tapes through the firewire port for archiving to digital? I have a bunch of Hi8 tapes I'd like to convert to digital files and I've experimented with lots of USB and firewire capture devices but it seems like using a Sony Digital 8 camcorder would be the highest quality choice if it's capable of playing back Hi8 tapes through a firewire cable. Is this possible?
I saw Peter Frampton in the day ( I can't remember exactly when) and I was wondering, did you ever upload that video to your music channel? if so, may I please have the link? Many thanks.
Is it normal for the head drum to be so noisy in these cheaper models? I’ve got a slightly newer HI8 camcorder that’s similar to one you’ve covered in another video and it’s much more silent

The camcorder's menu has no option to enable DV OUT instead. An older DCR-TRV130 I have, connects to the computer just fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I got a Sony handycam CCD-TRV37 (the camera of my childhood) at a thrift store. It came without a battery or cord but I have a maniac with a battery and charger and it works off that, but every time I try to put a tape in it goes down then comes back up. Any ideas why it maybe causing this? It also seems to "run over" something as it goes down but nothing seems in the mechanism path.
Try the "whack-a-Sony" fix. Remove the battery (or AC adapter) and tape, close the door, and firmly slap the bottom of the camera a few times. Then put the battery and tape back in and see if it works.
oh, that's _funny_. that camcorder had been at the one closest to me for DAYS. even at 25% off I couldn't justify picking it up. at one point the AC adapter did exist on the opposite shelf from where I last saw it (next to the typewriters) and it did have a nice large-capacity gray battery installed on it. I want to transfer my tapes I recorded from it to my PC, but when I playback the tapes, they are all in mono. I brought a stereo 3.5mm mini plug to RCA AV cable to try to capture in stereo through my dazzle capture device.. It still played back in mono.. Is it because the camera only plays back in mono? I'm a lil confused.. Would the cameras that you mentioned allow it to convert in stereo? Or does the SCA-30 only record in mono, & it wouldn't make a difference? Don't want to waste money, u know. Sorry it was so long.. Thanks in advance

Not everybody NEEDS a smartphone these days, you know. I have plenty of family who still use feature phones and are perfectly content with keeping them.
Why did you not obtain a HP Prolient DL580 GEN3 which should be able to render faster than your PC and make video editing a breeze provided you have 4x INTEL I7 36 core processors and 3TB of ECC system RAM and installing Microsoft Windows 10 and SONY VEGAS Video editing suite.

I had a quick look at that Samsung model, and yes, it appears that it records in mono.
@@vwestlife Dang!
So I will just have copy the mono track to make it stereo..
Well at least I know I'm not missing an audio, what I hear is what I got basically..
Thank u so much for researching..
Would spending money on a digital 8 camcorder make much of a difference of the quality of my video capture, or will it be about the same as just using Adobe Premiere to clean them up?
How do you enter playback mode?
Turn the switch to vcr and use the buttons on top of the camcorder to control the playback
@@Paradiselost69 I actually figured it out by fidgeting with it a little, but thanks for the response.
Also, do you happen to know if a Memory Stick Pro Duo (inserted into a MS Duo adapter) would work with this camera? I have both of them on the way, and would like to know if my predictions are correct.

How to buy this cassate
Hey, I have that exact same Digital8 camera. I'm thinking of selling it. Do you think it's worth anything at all?
Yes, on eBay the "trending" sale price of the DCR-TRV250 is $94.47.
vwestlife WOW! Thanks a lot for the information. I'm definitely putting it up for sale right now!
It was a great little camcorder... Impressive video quality for it's time. But unfortunately, we've moved past tapes.... Time to go digital.
I'll definitely miss the tape recording sound it used to make...
Thanks again for the tip.
Hmm I just noticed. Mine is the DCR-TVR350, not 250.
Is there a way for me to digitally save the tapes? I don't have Firewire ports on my computer.
Digital8 tape already *is* digital. ;-)
vwestlife I understand that. I have a bunch of Hi8 tapes that I would like to save to my computer. What's that program you're using in the video? Can I save the tapes without a Firewire port?
what cell phone do you use?
Motorola V170.
that is such a old phone, get a smartphone, its 2016 seriously
Not everybody NEEDS a smartphone these days, you know. I have plenty of family who still use feature phones and are perfectly content with keeping them.
My videos won't play when I press play
Did you rewind first?
+VWestlife I tried that
I think it's the charger or the battery ?
What does it show on the screen when you try to play the tape?
+VWestlife clock set (set clock)
Sometime this 🔼 sign shows it just flashes
Read the operating instructions/guide. If it's a Sony, you can download it from their web site: esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DOCS
Who's peater framtion
Is Google broken?
Vwestlife I'm trying to install Ubuntu 16.4 on my Windows 7 laptop and I keep getting this error message help me
I also have a picture of the error message if you would like to see it
I don't use Ubuntu regularly, so I'm not an expert on it.
+vwestlife that's ok if you can't help
Can I use a hi8 tape on this
You can use it to make new digital recordings onto Hi8 or Video8 tapes. But this model cannot play back existing analog Hi8/Video8 recordings.
How to buy cassate for this handycam
It can record onto any Video8, Hi8, or Digital8 cassette tape.
How can I buy
Why not use your white MacBook? it has a firewire port too.
But the programs I use to capture MicroMV video are Windows-only.
I thought you had windows installed on it.
Great stuff!
If you want to give me all that equipment for free, then I will gladly use it!
My tape wont play
Great music .......
I have that same digital 8 camcorder and my unit is in mint condition
I need Handycam
Imagine finding this for $20 now😭
a lot of micro mv tapes
