Our male eclectus did and still will at times do this to my husband and myself. We breed our female (from another pair), we housed them side by side for 18months. Once she started to display and interest in nesty behaviour. We introduced them outside of the cage on a t-stand and fed sunflowers for a good 15 mins. We did this several times over a week. We brought a new cage and they were placed in their new surroundings together. For the first 5 months or so, the male spent most the time on the floor or on low perches while she sat high. He learned he too could sit high, if he fed her. They now are regular breeders, we have not lost the tameness of the male and the female can also be handled at certain times particularly when she wants to be mated. Infact this odd couple love to mate outside of the cage when we are around or even on us. The babies that come out dont require hand raising the parents raise them and I am able to handle them once they are more feathered and return them back to the parents for raising, they are no different to my eclectus that I do hand raise.

There are two parrots at a restaurant in myrtle beach I always visit when I go, and one of them always regurgitates on me as if he's trying to feed me.

What would you suggest for those of us Male Ekkie owners that don't have the option of getting a female mate? We have a 7 year old male eclectus (we've had since 4 months of age)that seems to be pretty randy - we try to discourage it as best we can and it often works but….we don't want him to be miserable. Any good options or alternatives to keep his behavior in check? We'd hate to rehome him unless it was in his absolute best interest. Thank you so very much!
Learn how to train your parrot properly... you won't have any problems.
Spring and fall is mating season. Google how to discourage like sleeping in total darkness, no soft or cooked foods, no stroking only pets on head and feet etc.
My male Pineapple Conure displayed the mating behavior of backing up onto our arms and making "happy noises" on the very day he took off into the cold and was never seen again. He was 7 and very happy, but we're wondering. Did he go outside because he wanted a mate?

It depends on the individual circumstances but certainly not necessarily yet in others yes.
I have had that experience, but it's depending on the birds. As usual with birds, the answer is "it depends". The most annoying answer ever. :)
I think evry male parrot do that with his owner when there is no other parrot around, My quacker do this - trying to feed me and to mate ither with me or with his food dish

Voice changes in parrots are serious and are usually linked to illness. You need an avian vet right now.
I'm not sure about your advice of getting a female to cure "Randy bird syndrome". I was expecting something along the lines of , stop sending your bird mating signs like, petting the chest, rump, or back, don't encourage regurgitation by bobbing your head, distract by more training sessions, etc. Just getting a mate might take care of things but what if your male doesn't like the female.
Great response,was rather disappointed to see/ a trained vet has very limited information to share on this subject. I also agree about the mating signals, strongly disagree that having a mate to bond with will make a difference, my male eclectic has had 3 partners bred with all of them and currently has a new girl yet no matter what he still wants to mate with me and feed me..
It would be more effective and useful to those watching these vids to learn, if the advice could at least be sound and informative, as this was not!

I'm,having the exact same problems with my male . I,also have a female they have been together in different cages,on and off for about four years .He shows no interest in her at all .She if fertle,myrtle laying infertile eggs frequently .She's mean to him . However male,is jumping off purch angry,if he can't be with me .Constantly trying to mate me side to,side around my neck he goes . beak becomes,strong and he won't let up,it's become an annoying angry situation for,me . He won't stop ! This is,a,bird whom hated me for,10'years and now we are together because he human father moved a year ago .Help .Imcant mate him nor do I want to,I own four total happy healthy birds
I have two male Eclectus . Bubba is 11 years and Dudley is just over two years. From day one Bubba has been so domineering and bossy over poor little Dudley. That was to be expected , but I didn't expect Bubba to spends hours a night regurgitating and feeding Dudley. Bubba has always been a horny bird and when he was young he would have a little pink cushion that he loved to hump. If he got annoying trying to hump your hand or regurgitate in your face, l Banished to the cushion. Now he has a stuffed toy bird tied to the bars in his cage. Bubba's morning routine, is breakfast , followed by 10 mins of what he calls " boinking" and always finishes by giving it a big kiss.
Dudley is now getting hormonal. He stands up to Bubba and even regurgitates to him. Amazingly Bubba lets him. Then Bubba showed him how to boink a tea towel (it has to be red) , Dudley loves it.
So maybe a female is not the only answer, let boys be boys and give them lots of sex toys.
Perhaps, or 2 females tho in might take a year or two to re-pair them.
One eccy is enough to look after, let alone another and then babies!

My boy loves to hump into a dish, or a bird toy, but can get aggressive towards the toy, so usually it’s the dish that’s become best option.
I can hear him pushing himself around the cage, so funny, I say Gizmo, and he goes ‘what’ in a weird voice, it’s the only time he sounds like a weirdo! it’s the dish I use for his kiwi fruit or pomegranate, so he usually throws that out and humps away, usually in the morning then eats his fruit. Sometimes he’s go all out again on dusk, depends if he got off proper in the am! Hahah
He occasionally regurgitates without placing it anywhere, so I feel that’s no big issue, I do try to stop this behaviour though, he just upchucks n eats it back up, but if he does that towards me to feed me, I say yuck, n place him somewhere away from me and turn my back to him, that way he’s not getting positive attention when her does that, so this doesn’t happen much anymore.
Unless we’re out on his harness, he knows I can’t give him the cold shoulder in public! Lol!

Well he seems pretty knowledgeable but why is he touching the bird in obvious places that he shouldn't? I know he said he was "doing it on purpose" but he didn't discuss it to her... when you have a bird that gets like this all the time being aware of where you touch it can severely help discourage this behavior. By stimulating more production of hormones but then getting upset when the bird just responds to what you do is somewhat counter product and what I can only imagine as super frustrating for it.
If you watched the whole video you would know he was just doing it to catch him on film.

That comment has no logic and based on perceived assumptions you have generated. Romeo was forever regurgitating and attempting to human hump. The other 5 do not. Romeo was the only one who was petted by humans. The others prefer to hump other things.

exactly!! they are literally triggering the hormones and this will lead to aggression since the bird is being sexually frustrated. This "vet" is ridiculous. Claiming the bird NEEDS a mate?? Talk about unrealistic for many pet owners. I hope this woman found someone better to give her actual advice to not promote hormonal behaviors in the bird.
She feeds him crap! Meats and seafood? WTH? Get educated woman. Why didn't Dr. Ross address this horrid diet? These birds thrive on a mostly organic plant-based diet.

I know that cooked chicken is actually an easily digestible source of protein for them, as strange as it seems.They can eat seafood though? Seriously? I feed my ekkie Harrison's pellets, fruits, vegetables, nuts in that order of frequency. Why feed them meat at all? Is it beneficial?
Joseph Grant only about 5% so yes, meat is ok, in very little amounts.
It’s protein! But cooked is best, no additives ect.. & tuna, fish.

dairy is Ok, in extremely small portions like cheese, pure yoghurt and egg. is good too, as it’s calcium!
My boy loves egg. Not too much though, and needs to be boiled, I usually don’t give the yolk though, I heard it’s not as good, not 100% on that, but he don’t like it either, & with a little shell too, I heard from my breeder that she gives her laying females, eggs n shells and never once has she had eccy parents crack or harm the eggs lasted. I don’t breed, but it can be a common thing, for the parents to crack eggs before they hatch, apparently.

Small amounts of cooked or uncooked (sashimi quality) salmon and tuna is good for them and mine relish it. Also small amounts of nonfatty chicken or turkey. Small amounts. Bits of cooked egg too. Eclectus digestive track is a little more robust than some parrots.
Worst advice I’ve ever heard!!! Don’t ever encourage people who don’t know to breed their birds!!!! It’s not the only way to solve this issue

Molly Oney This is an educational video. The owner in the video is also a breeder. Which is why the Vet suggests the most natural way to correct the behavior for the bird, like in the wild, which is to get him a girlfriend ... rather than the owners prevent the birds natural instincts.
I honestly can’t stand commenters like you who throw out any comment which contradicts what they’re seeing. You either didn’t watch the entire video or you’re not very bright.
