Thank you so much for this information!! I have a job interview for an oyster shucking position and I've never touched an oyster in my life, this is so helpful!!
@darinaangelova2882 actually really well! I didnt get the oyster shucking position, but my previous kitchen experience got me full time in the kitchen instead :D
Great video mate. Clear, concise and no nonsense. I shucked my first oyster around 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. We've got some amazing Scottish and Cornish oysters in my neck of the woods. Some lemon juice or hot sauce goes well with them, but they're still amazing on their own.
I usually have to chip the front up a bit to get an opening for me to open from the front method which now since learning the hinge method i only do bill method when hinge method fails me . Which I learned bill method from my Dad and Grandpa when I was roughly 7 yrs old which Grandpa was an oysterneer or oyster hunter , if that's what you call them .
You should try the East Hampton Shucking tool, it's the safest and easiest way to open oysters. It keeps your hand away from the knife. You won't hurt yourself.
Hi or "Wow" the first frame has led me to say: Brilliant!, WHAT AN AMAZING FACE! . . . ( the eyes have it) . . . I write this as I listen not watching, touched by your voice and humor . . . However . . . . now I'm going to view this whole thing once more to gain the benefit of your wisdom.
Great video thank you - good clear sound for your excellent instructions. What is the best way to avoid little bits of shell in the oyster or to check/remove them. I try to wipe the shucking knife but sometimes there are still bits. Any tips much appreciated. Would rather not take out the oyster and wash it. Btw love your tip for the microwave!
Finally, I found someone other than myself who actually chews oysters. All the dumb asses where I live in Western Australia gulp their oysters down without even chewing them, as if to say they can’t stand the taste.
🔹️ Used to live up on a lake within easy walking distance, a few hundred yards from a large oyster farm.. Freshest Oysters eaten straight after opening cannot be beaten ❗ Always added a few drops of Worcestershire sauce or Maggi Special Seasoning sauce to my oysters. I don't care for cooked oysters. I've always eaten them Au Naturel, the best & only way to truely enjoy these salty little delights❗
"I’m not sure if it’s due to being a woman and having less strength, but I find it difficult to insert the knife into the hinge to pop it. I often have to hammer the back of the knife to get it to work."
2 questions? Is it alive when you first cut it? Why isn't it cooked? Oh and before you make fun of me or call me stupid, just to let you know I was born and raised in the Appalachia Mountains of Eastern KY. I know absolutely NOTHING about catching and/or preparing seafood.
Ozzell. Florida citrus county south of crystal river off of hwy 19. Over 2 nd bridge off to the left best butter cup ostyers on the point by the cedar tree. Jim lo st in the 60sssssssssssssssss
I EAT 300 OYSTERS AT THE BUFFET. I GET BANNED A LOT..LOL I USED TO BE A SHUCK ER. AS I OPEN IT I TAKE THE KNIFE AND GO STRAIT UP TOSS THE TOP THEN CUT THE MUSSEL AND FLIP . HE DIDN'T FLIP AND YOU PUSH KNIFE UP TILL TOP COMES OFF
Sorry but I cringed at how much lovely liquor was unnecessarily lost as he shucked these... you're going to lose some as you pry the top shell off but then, as he cut the bottom abductor muscle, he literally tipped the cup over on an angle and all the remaining liquor poured out... both oysters looked "dry" after he was done... IMO that's a crime... Sipping the wonderful liquor before eating the meat is one of the joys of eating raw oysters...
I’ve met this gentleman at the National Oyster shucking contest several times! One of the nicest people you’ll ever meet!

How did it go?

I’m 17, supposed to be preparing for my SAT but here I am

Met George at a brewery in VA, he was shucking oysters there! Super kind and down to earth guy, told me to come check out this video!
You the Man! Great class, Sir.
Nicely done as always George!
Yeah George!
Nice job. Chesapeake Bay oysters are my favorite since they're smoother and more buttery than the northern colder water ones.
Virginia/Maryland oysters are my favorite. I love the PEIs too.
Thank you so much. I quickly and easily shucked my first oysters. And, I did it much better than my husband!
My all time favorite is the oyster soup scene. He really doesn't say anything but it's hilarious. So sad he died so young.

First class, many thanks for the video; had a dozen Cornish Oysters yesterday,.....superb.
Seems like with your "going in the bill" method, you're losing all the delicious juices when you flip it over...am I missing something?
Again the delicious juice...are you all bots?
Is there any reason to go in the front as opposed to the hinge? If you love oysters, I recommend shucking them yourself. It's 10x satisfying.
front and back is a huge debate. For me it all depends on what the oyster looks like and what knife I'm using.
@@OysterNinjaPc good to know, I personally thought the hinge method looked easiest, but shells don’t grow so evenly.
Never gets old master
Brilliant ! Fantastic !
Great Video Thanks
"The gloves are comin off"

you have questions I have answers
it's alive
you can cook it, but it's just much better raw. cooked oysters taste not much different from mussels, which are way cheaper
You eat these raw. They are so good
Looks like a nice guy
Can you adopt me and feed me oysters every day?
lol
Oh my! The fellow lost all the juices. Shucks!
You gotta slurp and get all the watery goodness
Shucks that looked easy!!! Har har har Knee slapper !!!🤪🤪🤪

you are a cruel man, here I am, mouth watering and not an oyster in sight.........darn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol
I use a hammer and a 6 inch 🔪
that works also
I become a mechanic to unscrew my oyster at ua-cam.com/video/JTc0V9-Dg8M/v-deo.html 😂😂
Hmm, those gloves look unwashed for years. And they're touching food that's about to go into your mouth.
He lost so much of the delicious liquid inside pouring out as he shucks! There are pieces of shell everywhere!
You always loose first water and serve, oyster produces second water which is less salty and has much more pleasant taste
The delicious liquid is sea water...what do you like about it?
guy at the bottom is soo triggered
...aaaand then the customer chokes on all the oyster shell pieces and gets food poisoning from those nasty ass gloves.

I swear EVERY oyster tutorial i see on youtube...they do it WRONG..
Why don't you do one then? That'll be another wrong'n to add to the tally!
how do you do it? I'm interested seriously

He looks to be making a mess of the oysters.
