Sorry, but what you say about the 3.0 liter is not correct. The 4.2 liter engine may be a relatively good strong engine. The 4.0 liter is definitely not a good engine as it requires a lot of maintenance and is not very durable. The 4.2 is better but not as reliable as the 3.0 liter. I've had 2 workshops for years, which I take turns driving my S-type 3.0 to when something needs to be repaired. One mechanic has been repairing exclusively Jaguars for almost 30 years and the other for 50 years. Both say the 3.0 is the best, most durable and low maintenance engine, often lasting over 400,000km if properly maintained. When accelerating from 0 - 100km/h, there is just under a second difference between the 3.0 and the 4.2, and even less with the 4.0. The top speed is 235 km/h for the 3.0 and 250 km/h for the 8 cylinders. So little difference. especially since the 3.0 is about 150 kilos lighter and the 60 hp hardly make a difference. The 3.0 is very powerful, cultivated and has a great V6 sound. So what they say is not correct.

It is very economical, too. I get around 25-30 MPG (US). With the 5-speed manual they are rather sporty. Yes the V8 is faster, but not that much. It does use 30% more fuel though. So far no oil leaks or anything. I'd not want to run the V8, when I get an X350 will be the same 3.0 engine.

Hey, really sorry to bother with this but: I'm gonna make a Jaguar S-Type as an addon (mod) for a very old PC game called Midtown Madness 2 (which is very easy to modify). Would it be okay if I use the recording of the startup sound from the beginning of the video for that addon? The addon would be released 100% for free, non profit, on the internet, and I'd include a link to this video in a readme file attached to it. If you don't want me to (or don't respond) that's absolutely okay with me though, of course 👍 Either way, thanks a lot for making this video!! I'm looking to buy one of these since I've liked them a lot ever since I was a kid and this video was enjoyable and informative
Thanks for the comment Shelton! It's not something that was intentional to be hard on the 3.0's. I take a little bit of issue when luxury brands take an engine that was designed to NOT be in a luxury vehicle and try to make it into an engine that is. I acknowledge their need for a V6 at the time and Ford wasn't all that keen on allowing Jaguar the rope to develop their own unit. What would have been REALLY cool would have been the I6 updated with VVT and all the updated techs. Can you imagine!? It would have been right up there with the 530's in driving dynamics. :)

thanks luvvy
The S Type boot moulding was not amended for the US market. It was designed for UK number plates, and an American alternative was never considered, which is a shame and looks totally wrong.
This guy is great!
Wavy, thanks for the luv. It means a lot.
is this a good A to B car ?
It's the best A2B car. Smooth reliable comfortable reasonable to maintain solid fast
The 3.0 V6 S-Type is a great car, with a wonderful and bombproof engine, provided proper maintenance. The 2.7 V6 Diesel is also a great car, but not sold in the States. The 4.2, like this one, is also a wonderful car, in all respects, much better than the 4.0.The top of the crop is of course the S-Type R, with well over 400 hp.
The S- Type R has exactly 398 hp, not more. But you are right, they are all famous cars. They start to become classic these days and the prices grow up since two years. 🙂
@@alberteisenmann1023 yup, there now about 15k where I live, if they’re in good condition. Before they were about 2-3k
@@homiesenatep Exactly this is a right amount what you have to pay for a good low melage S-type today. And the car is worth it. I have mine since 4 years. ✌️👍😎
I got told these cars are to fast to brutal to powerful , so I had to get one it's great car
Dash o part emend designed to look like spitfire wing once you study it you will get it have 2.7 disl 2007 brilliant car
If you don't want me to (or don't respond) that's absolutely okay with me though, of course 👍
Either way, thanks a lot for making this video!! I'm looking to buy one of these since I've liked them a lot ever since I was a kid and this video was enjoyable and informative
What products do you use to recondition and make them look brand new again??
I use a few different brands. Usually Angelwax compounds/polishes, and ArtDeShine Nano Graphene coating for protection.
Thanks for the comment.
I think this dude is kinda hard on the 3.0 V6...but whatev’s
Thanks for the comment Shelton!
It's not something that was intentional to be hard on the 3.0's. I take a little bit of issue when luxury brands take an engine that was designed to NOT be in a luxury vehicle and try to make it into an engine that is. I acknowledge their need for a V6 at the time and Ford wasn't all that keen on allowing Jaguar the rope to develop their own unit. What would have been REALLY cool would have been the I6 updated with VVT and all the updated techs. Can you imagine!? It would have been right up there with the 530's in driving dynamics. :)
@@auniqueperspectiveoncars436 Sorry, but what you say about the 3.0 liter is not correct.
What is your website? I’m in the market for a jag
What do you think about the 3.0 S type. VS the 4.2L.
I had the 3.0 2002 and it was pretty bulletproof. Loved it and was fast (enough)
Which model and year is this s-type?
That one was a 2006. Fantastic car.
@@auniqueperspectiveoncars436 Sorry, but I don't think yours is from 2006. I have a Jaguar s-type 3.0, from 2006 since two years. 2002 the cocpit is completley changed and different. And since 2005 the rear side of the car gets a new style and form. Yours have the backside from the S-type series 1, but the new cockpit. So yours must be between 2002 and early 2005.
@@alberteisenmann1023 Albert, you are right! It was a 2003. I went back and double checked. Good eye!
@@auniqueperspectiveoncars436 🙂🙂 Thank you.
Please stop saying, 'Four point oh' for a four litre, you don't need to add an 'oh' - Just say a 4 litre (or liter) ... and a 4.2 would be a four point two. Also it's called a Jag-you-are ..... not Jag-whaa.
Please review 2000 S-Type 3.0
Everyone is warning me..Big mistake.
I bought it..112,000 mi...well taken care of but...Petrified of costly repairs.
Scared anxious new owner...yikes!!
Get 2003+ S type. For the interior. Other than that, take care of the motor.
I got candy red s type v8
Nice , I'm trying to get the same exact car you have ,unfortunately it's very hard to find one.
Carnival Red. . . . LORD ABOVE!!! It is like sex on wheels when clean. . . especially when polished up. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that color.
Thanks for the comment Thaisa!
@@theshield1613 Carnival Red. They are super hard to find. Even harder to find one with decent paint and has been maintained. I had one in inventory a few years ago with the 4.0 and it was amazing. SO much dimension with the curves.
@@auniqueperspectiveoncars436 Carnival Red super hard to find?????? Go on Facebook Marketplace & do a search starting in say Atlanta-- they're everywhere. "Hard to find" is a V8 in Sky Blue [dont know what Jaguar calls the color] with Tan interior (the 2006-2008's are esp hard to find!). If you can find one of these not priced stupidly *I'LL BUY IT!*

These cars are bad in reliability and parts are incredibly expensive
Thanks for the comment Will. They aren't really that bad in reliability I have rarely seen one suffer a catastrophic failure. I suppose of the 3 failures of the car, the one I have actually seen is the radiator failure. The radiator is roughly 200$, idk that I would call that incredibly expensive. If you expected Honda pricing, why would you have purchased a European car in the first place? There are a few things that make you scratch your head, but EVERY brand has their bone headed cost cutting.
FYI a lot of parts can be bought through Ford parts instead of Jaguar branded parts lowering your costs dramatically.
@@mikelmart does this rule of thumb apply to the '00 S 4.0 V8? I ask because I just looked at one that was for sale for cheap! I know that this was the beginning model that had some issues.. but I don't mind turning a wrench and using the old elbow grease! It's super clean on the outside, but the interior needs a little TLC.. nothing major.. haven't driven it yet, but any info would be great! Thx!
@@jasonchenoweth5448 I sold my S Type after 5 weeks, the transmission almost literally killed me, went to 7000 rpm when I was parking it. Thankful that a concrete berm stopped the car from hitting anything or anyone. Took it to my mechanic, the car had more codes than Morse.
