- Ariel Helwani's weird interview with Tony Khan, the All Elite Wrestling owner. This is the video that led to Khan's February 2023 tweet against Ariel.
Ariel called this "one of the weirdest interviews I've ever done."
In this conversation Khan talks about AEW, MJF's future, the war with WWE, Vince McMahon's scandal and CM Punk.

Tony Khan: It's been very important. It's great to go back there. We had the third episode ever of Dynamite there two years ago, and it was a very, very special card. There was a great tag match that I felt really strong about that I loved. John Moxley and PAC versus Kenny and Hangman, the first ever Kenny and Hangman tag match and it did a big number. We also had a great main event, Chris Jericho versus Darby Allin in a Philly street fight for the world title. And it was one of the several matches that really put Darby on the map as a big star and I've always really loved that show. It was really special to go to Philly for me. And I've been wanting to come back and do this show there for a long time. This show's been rescheduled and postponed because of the pandemic, and I do think for the fans now, it's going to work out because they're going to get one of the best cards we've ever put together with the Casino Ladder Match, which has got a stacked group of wrestlers in it, with the 8-Man Tag, eight of our top stars in this big four on four match that's been building up since the end of All Out, Shida going for her 50th win, what a great opponent it would be to get it against if she was able to get a win against Serena Deeb. That's going to be a great match. And Sammy Guevara defending the TNT title for the first time ever in a true open challenge against Bobby Fish, who's one of the top wrestlers, even a top independent wrestler, a top wrestler for New Japan, a top wrestler for NXT, a top wrestler in all these companies, never been to AEW until this week, Wednesday Night Dynamite on the two year anniversary show. So, there's a lot of great wrestling and I'm going to have some fun announcements, and it's going to be a really special show. And I can tell you right now, I have one huge announcement on the show. It is going to be a lot of fun, and it should be just a really, really good night of wrestling for Wednesday Night Dynamite, two year anniversary show. I'm so happy. I'm so happy because wrestling was a huge part of Owen Hart's life. Martha Hart is a very intelligent, very principled woman. She's not the biggest wrestling fan, but she knows that for Owen Hart, it was a huge part of his life, and she has a very nuanced, articulate thoughts on it. She's very well aware of Owen's career path and the different places he wrestled and, believe me, he wrestled for more than one company in his career, and she has a lot of knowledge of it, including his matches with New Japan, his brief stint with WCW. He worked with Joel Goodhart and of course, his wrestling in Stampede and also in Europe for Otto Wanz in the Catch Wrestling Association. So, Owen Hart, incredibly well traveled wrestler, one place we never had the good fortune to host Owen Hart was AEW. He's a favorite of so many of ours, and it meant a lot to be able to connect with Martha and offer this olive branch and say that we would love to have you and Owen be a part of AEW. We would love to work with the Owen Hart Foundation and reestablish the legacy of Owen Hart in professional wrestling where we haven't seen him in terms of being in video games and action figures and on TV, on wrestling each week and celebrating his great career. It's just we don't hear that name enough, Owen Hart. [Martha] was very principled and she wanted to make sure this was something that would benefit the Owen Hart Foundation, which it will, that it was something that will be respectful of Owen's name and legacy and of Martha, herself. And absolutely, that's what we're here to do. And so I'm very, very excited about it.

The thing that ruined wwe for me is all the gossip about this , that and who's fucking who . I watch Wrestling to escape normality and AEW does that for me in abundance.

Love Ariel, but this interview sucks. Tony dodged any interesting questions and used every chance to speak, as an excuse to ramble about upcoming shows and stuff. Which ironically made me less interested than if he actually talked shop. HHH had a much better interview.

Aside from backstage drama, he didn’t really seem to want to give ANY info about wrestlers or contracts or Cody etc. and that’s fine. It’s probably legal purposes. But if you agree to go on a journalists show who you know is probably gonna try to dig for some info like that, you gotta have something besides just promoting your brand. Give and take etc. not arguing. It’s just what I got from watching this for an hour.

This is the difference when a real journalist that covers multiple sports asks hard hitting, straight forward questions. When a 'wrestling journalist' asks questions it's mostly the wrestling fan inside them asking it and they always compliment and love to cuddle everything Tony does nowadays. It's also the main reason why Tony doesn't do interviews with people that he knows will criticize his company. Hats off to Ariel for getting through this calmly and not lashing out at Tony, because I would have.

Hard to watch interview, lots of awkward exchanges but Ariel did great. He didn’t hold back, and wasn’t afraid to speak up. Like Sam Roberts, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if WWE recruited him in the future.
He doesn’t answer questions, he just takes questions and turns them into a promo for the next event.
As he should lol. There's certain things though that he really can't talk about.. like the backstage cm.punk "evps" issue. There's lawsuits & all kinds of other bs going on because of that so he really can't talk about it. But as an owner in general, He should absolutely leave things in the air if the question will be answered by watching! Why give away your show ?

Other than Jericho they don’t have 1 I’ll say it again not one mainstream star. Ask any casual sports fan or tv watcher to name an AEW wrestler or someone that has wrestled there. They need a change in leadership before it’s too late.

He reminds me of my old boss when I worked night shift at a grocery store back in the early 2000's as a 20-22 year-old. Guy was super friendly and got along with everyone but we all walked over him constantly. Everyone on the night shift crew stole food constantly for lunch breaks and we'd smoke weed behind the store on breaks (sometimes with our boss himself). He never confronted any of us and was eventually fired due to a plethora of issues store-wide after a year or so.
Same for when I worked at Taco Bell three or so years prior to that job after school. My manager was an 18 year-old woman who literally didn't give a shit about anything other than collecting a paycheck and having sex with nearly the entire crew at one point (myself included sadly). She used to let everyone steal food and on a few occasions even stole entire boxes of hot sauce packets (roughly 500 of them in a box). There were many times where her parents/sister showed up and she'd hand them a couple large bags filled with grilled stuffed steak burritos, nachos, a dozen tacos, some empanada's, etc... roughly $30-$40 worth of food.
Oh god, I remembered working at Goodwill as well in my mid-20's. My boss was an attractive woman in her 40's who would constantly flirt with me, eventually we ended up making out after work in my car and she got her work keys out and re-opened the store only for us and we made love in the break room while playing cd's she grabbed off the shelf, I think it was Coldplay lol.
Now that I think about it... everything is corrupt as hell lol.
The "not heard of this thing" (Tony making a point that his legal supposedly hadn't heard of Ariel's show) comments straight off are so arrogant

I never had an interest in aew because of Chris Jericho.i had an interest because I thought the over all company would be a good alternative. It hasn’t pan out to me.
I agree it was hard for me to part with WWE it is just something we all grew up with plus the talent I love more in WWE
@@ec5018 when I was kid living in Philly. We actually preferred Jim Crockett’s nwa over Wwe. We always knew the guys that came into wwe even when Vince would give them gimmicks. Over the years I watched wrestling from almost every company. Aew comes off as the worse of wcw, tna, and wwe mixed with bad indie instincts. It’s brutal. Very few things elevate to good. And most of the good rarely leads to anything going forward. First year or so he signed a lot of bad talent. But the last 18 months they have been signing much better talent but the booking and produced matches are dreadful.
The only way to aew fixes itself is someone with booking experience comes in with 100 percent control.

@@btmz1753 Granted, there is a legal investigation however there are no legal ramifications to share your feelings on the matter. The whole world knows there is a legal investigation and it just makes him look awkward squirming around and just no comment everything. Ariel even asked WWE questions to which TK replied “I don’t want to answer because I don’t think it will serve me well.” Seems a little selfish agree to do an interview and only promote your product and not let the fans in at all - that’s literally the point of these interviews and why we all watch.

Not sure why there's all this bitching and crying about Tony not answering questions. The things he didn't answer, I wouldn't have expected him to answer. No, he's not gonna talk about someone ELSE'S contract. No, he's probably not even legally allowed to talk about the scrum and backstage brawl stuff. No, he's not gonna talk about negotiations with Bray that couldn't have been to serious if they didn't even talk face to face. And no, he's not gonna throw dirt on Ariel's buddy, Nick since it's obviously a personal matter and Tony's a 100 percent professional. Weird no one is mentioning Ariel taking little shots at tony and Tony handles them like a champ. I see a theme with the time of these comments compared to the time of Ariels statement about the interview 🤔

I just don't like it when people pile onto Tony and how he runs his successful wrestling company just because he does things in a different manner. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for doing such wonderful things in the wrestling business. He's legit making the business better. But there's some that wanna act like his mistakes made along the way are some huge fuck ups that's gonna kill his business. I just wanna be able to watch different types of wrestling and both Tony and HHH are doing that for me now. But nothing is gonna be perfect. They can't all be ECW or Lucha Underground lol
