So basically, the devs thought “what if we combined platform fighters and guilty gear mechanics?” This looks amazing.
They learned a lot from Rushdown Revolt, which has all of these mechanics but on craack
they were already kind of toying with the idea by turning the air dodge into an air dash.
If Smash and Guilty Gear had an affair..
To be fair, rushdown revolt kinda did that
Guilty Gear isn't the only fighting game with burst and combo breakers. KI was doing combo breakers even on the N64.

I'm happy to hear H-box in a trailer for this game. He's very famous for playing platform fighters such as All-Star Brawl. He mains Nigel Thornberry in the game, too.

Slime so far seems like a really smart idea for a game mechanic. On the most basic level, you have enhanced special moves and a full on super, which the most casual of players out there will get a kick out of, but then you throw in combo breakers and dashes and now you've got a great form of skill expression for all the competitive players
Perfect depiction. An integrated mechanic that doesn't seem forced and is both casual and comp friendly.
Finally, the devs were given an actual budget, resources and access to VAs
This is a big step up from the first game. It’s a lot easier to tell what’s going on thanks to the improved animations, though I do feel like the hit stun is a bit too intense.
Maybe you can toggle it like in ultimate
@@cnk9822I don’t think you can toggle hit stun in ultimate (maybe I’m wrong), but I know you can toggle knockback
I think they increased hit-stun to make slime bursting/cancelling easier
Its not the hit stun, it's the hit stop. It's there to add more oomph to attacks.

Really hope they give this game a longer life cycle than the first one
It has a story mode and crossplay, it definitely will
they have a higher budge than a can of coke and a bag of cheetos this time

Except for SpongeBob's muscle arm slam attack. It looks a bit weak and lifeless.

The slime mechanic is really unique for a platform fighter intregrating the meter systems of classic fighters
Zim's ultimate NEEDS to be the scene from Enter the Florpus when he teleports Earth right in front of the Armada spaceship. That would be dope

I thought the Slime Meter would be the equivalent to a Final Smash Meter, but this actually seems even better! It can serve as a Final Smash with full power, and give every special move a super-charge option? They really put a lot of different move animations in this! Really cool!
Gives me PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale vibes.

I'd say it's way more in line with just general fighting game meter mechanics (EX moves, combo breaker, etc.). Playstation All-Stars got really weird with it by making it so the only way to score knock-outs/points was with super moves.
SpongeBob's idle of him using his nose as a flute is literally so cute and perfect I love it 😭❤️
Its so funny that the meme of Jon holding deflated Garfield saying “GARFIELD, YOU HAD BURST!” is now a real thing.
I’m actually really impressed with the care they put into this game, look at the light rays placing shadows on SpongeBob from the window blinds! Goes to show what the team is capable of with a proper budget this time
I don't know what Nickelodeon was smoking when they didn't give them a proper budget.

Don’t mind me. Just casually making All-Star Brawl 2 mechanics feel like Smash Bros. Ultimate but also adding more mechanics that make it even more fun.
The first game felt like a cheap knockoff. This actually feels like it’s own game. It’s cool to see them putting more into their ideas that make them unique from Smash.
It’s actually significantly closer to smash than before.
But that’s frankly a good thing
@@littlemacisunderrated412Yeah. That's not to say there's nothing new here. Smash Bros for example just has the smash gauge and when it's full you do a final smash, in this the slime meter has a variety of uses beyond super attacks. But the first couple minutes I was basically just thinking 'okay so that's just how things work in smash bros' etc. The different uses for the slime meter feels like the main thing that will make this play differently.
A cheap knock off? Of what melee just cause it has wavedashing and other basic platform fighter mechanics lol? Cmon

People want to act like the first game was bad when in reality it was quite good. The game had active updates, dlc, bugfixes, voiceacting and many other changes that really improved it from launch. The gameplay was FAST, and there were a lot of novel mechanics that set it aside from a smash clone. To this day the game still has an active albiet small community. The second game appears to have a much higher budget, and looks much more like smash. Not to say its a clone, it has the meter mechanics, specifically supers that will hopefully be tournament legal. They already have community involvement by having Hbox voiceover the trailer, and compared to the rocky advertisment campaign for the first game there is much more hyping for the game.
No, the first game sucked ass. You're WAY too charitable. It was basic level boring trash that got old after 2 hours.
People are way too spoiled by Smash. It's all good, the loud minority allowed this game to continue on
NASB 1 had a lot going for it and was fun to play for sure, but it had a LOT of issues at launch (momentum jank and no VA). Having limitations on the number of standard attacks also prevented characters from feeling unique, because most of them had to have moves with similar functions (ladder combos into a strong up air being very common). The expanded movesets and redesigns should help them feel more distinct though.

I love Rushdown Revolt, but the way NASB2 is handling slime cancels is how it should've been done.
How was it handled in Rush Rev?

If everything is that easy to cancel then that just sounds like the same kind of combo hell that NASB 1 had where you basically just 0toD people off one hit
@metalandmagic1424 it's actually fairly balanced around it. But it does make most combos look and feel the same
All star brawl 2: OOPS! All fighting game inspiration (seriously, their taking inspiration from the mechanics of many fighting games and translating them into a platform fighter)
Looks like they removed the option to move backwards. Probably to compensate for not having side aerials in the first game.

I just hope that the Super Attacks are able to be defended against. Not all fun things are fair and vice versa but if a balance between the two were achieved, this game could set a precedent for how Supers should function for future games. Or I've inhaled too much hopium and they're gonna have an option to turn them off anyways.
I get what you're saying. But you'd need all of the meter for a super attack and most players would probably use it for cancels or enhanced specials instead.
Plus, we don't know how fast you get slime meter. Not against having some kind of defense against supers. I just feel like there's already incentive to use the meter for other things. If you can just block them, people might not wanna save meter for them at all.
Super Attacks seem to be the Final Smashes of this game. And in Smash Bros, Final Smashes cannot be blocked, so I feel Super Attacks will be the same in this game. However, Final Smashes can be turned off.

Well, since the game has a parry system, supers will probably need to be blocked like that

What should be done is that if someone says a dirty word online, it's censored by a dolphin noise, specifically from the one heard in Sailor Mouth. Should keep competitive matches fun and fair, not to mention safe for all ages.

If catdog gets in like i hope they do their super move should be dog going ultra buff mode like how he was when him and cat went to face off against the greasers like in the episode pumped as dog deliveries a flurry of punches
This is kind of what the game needed to keep it alive, not a continuation of the barely fun repetitive gameplay that looks like ur glitching at 1000mph.. . This is a clean slate and a completely new game at a more tolerable pace
