  • In this video, I demonstrate the basic increases in Portuguese Knitting. You can see all of my Portuguese Knitting videos in this playlist:
    • Portuguese Knitting St...
    The yarn I'm using for demonstration is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky.
    The needles I'm using are Knitter's Pride Bamboo DPNs.
    My silver ring is actually a knitting needle gauge, and can be found here:

    The nail polish I'm wearing is by Julep, color "Lorraine":

    Just a small trick - for the yarn over, it's possible to just reverse the position of the yarn (i.e. hold it in 'purl' position but perform a knit stitch for a yarn over knit, and hold it in 'knit' position but perform a purl for a yarn over purl) - this is less effort and does indeed create an 'automatic' yarn over that's great for those of us who are juuuuuust a little bit lazy

    Thank you so much for your videos! I'm Portuguese and learned Portuguese knitting from a family friend when I was 11, got back into knitting this year (age 30) and realized how many skills I was lacking. Your videos have helped a ton, thank you, thank you, thank you! You've helped me stay connected to my culture and build skills, I so appreciate it.

    TY for setting up the playlist. So simple! I am now knitting exclusively in PT knitting. Your tutorial is a joy. Thanks, again.

    Thank you for these wonderful videos. Just starting Portuguese knitting (hoping that it will help with repetitive motion stress to switch up knitting style). Your videos are one of the few online resources in this area, and definitely the most instructive and broad. So grateful that you’re providing instructions on different stitches required in various patterns! I’m just starting on yarn harlots one row scarf (thank you this suggestion and video as well!). Hoping that knit in back loop of stitch will be intuitive in Portuguese style.

    Thanks so much for these videos. They've been a great help. I love everything about Portuguese except the PFB... so I've been cheating. I do a normal purl and let the stitch fall off the left needle as usual. Then I pick it up again with the left needle coming into the stitch from the back -- right leg is in back of the needle. Then I purl that stitch off the needle a second time. It may be technically inaccurate, but to my novice eyes, it looks exactly the same and I'm able to do it without struggling.

    Thanks so much. I learned the purl stitch yesterday from an online class, but I couldn't get the knit stitch right (couldn't figure out how to get it from one needle to the other) until I saw your video. I need to practice a lot, but at least I know the basics now.

    Thanks a lot Staci! I was just about to start the border of my Miss Grace shawl and I wanted to use Portuguese knitting but I didn't know how to kfb in the corners! That's really helpful and perfectly on time! 😘

    Thanks for posting this. I tried to stick with Portuguese knitting ages ago, but had no luck finding any resources on increases or decreases portuguese style, so I had to switch to my english knitting and then that just ruined the whole point

    Hello! I´m portuguese and I always knit that way, but I stretch more the yarn, because it´s easier to take the yarn inside the sitch (sorry, my English is not very good) . I wanted to know if it´s possible to knit the "herringbone stitch" using this technique. Thank you.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 років тому +3

      Yes - you can knit any stitch combination using the Portuguese technique. I have more Portuguese knitting videos coming out the next couple of weeks, hopefully it will help with the technique in general, and using it in more patterns.

    I have a question. I am knitting a sweater in the round "inside out" so im purling every stitch but the knit side is still the right side. If the pattern is written to be worked from the knit side and it says M1R would I need to M1L on the purl side? thank you!

    • @verypinkknits

      It is the same technique - no different. You join in the round, as usual, and work the stitches as I demonstrate in the Portuguese knitting videos.

    Does this style look different when finished than the American(?) or Continental knitting style of knitting? Or does the finished product look the same? I'm just confused...lol

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 років тому +1

      I talk more about that in the basic Portuguese knitting video, but no - the stitches are identical to those worked in Continental or American knitting.

      I'm not sure that I can help you in a message...I recommend scheduling a private lesson at your local yarn shop and getting help in-person from the knitting teacher there. They can help you work out a way to knit that is comfortable for you.
