    Our channel follows the day to day activities happening around LaLa Farm. LaLa Farm is a small, family owned farm located just south of the Florida - Georgia line in Glen Saint Mary, FL (Northeast Florida). We focus on producing small scale marketable farm products, while moving toward food self-sufficiency for our own family. We breed Registered Kiko, Boer, and Nubian goats for market and meat. We raise our own poultry for meat and eggs. We grow seasonal fruits and vegetables and maintain a colony of bees for honey and pollination of our plants. The goal of our UA-cam channel is to educate and share with our customers, followers, and anyone else interested in the homesteading or small farm lifestyle - our approach to managing the little slice of paradise we call LaLa Farm. Our channel, just like the farm, is truly a family endeavor. On any given week, you may see videos from a number of family members depending on the video topic. Each of our family members has unique interests and skills that they bring to our farm. We would love to have you join us - the Robinson family - on our self-sufficiency and homesteading journey by subscribing to our channel.

    That's some great looking ground cover and you did an excellent job framing the garden too!! Looks fantastic!

      We did the framing and boxes last year, but we never got the ground cover in. At one point over winter, the grass was close to 3' high in the enclosure. This will work really well. Thanks for watching. - Rick

    That ground cover will help a lot. You have a nice large area to work with. We had most of a roll of driveway cloth left after spreading 3/4 grey stone in the driveway. The rolls are 16 ft. wide by 320 ft. long. I went back and lined all our raised beds to keep the voles from burrowing up. Worked great. It drains really well too. You are going to have a very nice setup when you're done. Getting a side by side? You are going to love that. Our Alice plows in the winter, hauls and pulls in the summertime. The winch on the front is handy too. It looks nice where you are. We are on our second day of lake effect snow lol. Take care!

      Thanks Mike for watching. Yea the cloth should help tremendously, we have a side by side but it is very unreliable to the extent we rarely use it. Need to get it back tin the shop for a fuel issue. Good luck with all that snow. - Rick

      We have been working on this for 2 years. The greenhouse and storage area and the perimeter raised beds I did last year. We were waiting on winter to finish the middle part with additional raised beds, ground cover, and a couple of traditional ground rows. We are almost done with the building part and then we can put the whole space to work - FINALLY!! Thanks for watching. - Rick

      Thanks so much for stopping by and watching!! I love the spring because we can start planting. But it is also the first sign we are only 3 months from 95 degree days. Arghhhh.... But on positive note - during the summer I can work in my woodshop because its too hot for continuous outside work. - Rick

    I would love to have a garden as big as yours but unfortunately, mine is inside containers on a 10' x 10' deck. Just the basic tomatoes, kale, cukes, and red peppers.

    The ground cover will help a lot, but do remember that just because something cannot grow up through it doesn't mean something can't grow down through it. That means all weed and grass seed that is blown on top of the fabric could germinate and the roots grow down. Stay on top of that and you'll be fine. Or, you could just do what I did. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  2 роки тому

      Thanks Paulla. I have used weedblock in previous gardens and have experienced exactly what describe. However, we can only do what we can do. That's been the challenge all along.

    Paulla beat me on the comments lol. looks nice I was thinking about it. i guess you could put down the fabric after you put the beds in so when the weeds oe what ever grows you can pull it up and put new down. just my thinking might not worth the hassle.

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  2 роки тому +1

      The plan for the beds is to place them on top of the fabric and then cut out the fabric in the very middle of the box (about 6-8" in from the sides) so that the ground is exposed. The soil in the garden enclosure is really fertile from last years treatments and the history of land previously as a palm tree farm, thus all the grass. So there are a lot of worms and such in the ground that I want to have access to the beds. By cutting out the fabric in the middle of the beds it will it will allow worms to pass between the ground and the bed. After we cut the bottom out, we will layer it with cardboard as a weedblock while we get the bed growing. Over time, the cardboard will prevent new weeds from growing and decompose over the next year. We have so many new beds because 1-2 of them will double as the compost bin each year in preparation for the growing season the following year. My concern has never been moisture retention - that is why I got the plastic commercial grade ground cover that I did. Moisture only puddles on the ground cover cover temporarily, but drains right through it which was my original intent. My sole concern was prevention of weed and grass prevention and allowing worms to move between the beds and the native ground. Thanks for watching sir - much appreciated. - Rick
