We're in Missouri and the orioles and hummers are in full effect!! We have to hang our hummingbird feeders though, and also put some vaporub on a folded up towel at the top.of the hanger or else ants will find it before the birds empty the water. Hummers eat the oriole grape jelly too. They're spectacular to watch..Great video! Thank you!!

Glad I happened upon your site. Hello from South Texas🤗 I love hummingbirds too and I was looking for a feeder that the bees wouldn't get stuck in like a pretty new one I got in the spring, I couldn't believe how FULL of bees it got in only 2 days sitting out! I'm a new subscriber. I'm all too happy to make these after purchasing several feeders over last few years and some of them got rusted and I painted over some of the flower decors. No more buying new feeders that don't last for me!
Robbie, you're a genius! Definitely going to hurry up and make some of these before the hummingbirds come to Virginia. Have you done a video on all of your birdfeeders and how you made them? I love your bird garden!
You have started me and making my hummingbird feeder’s I have seen six hummingbirds but I have one that will not let any other come to the feeder’s I have four feeders in different spots and that one hummingbird runs from one to the other and runs the other hummingbirds away what can I do
Hi. I live in va too and I have the same problem (among other hummy problems like wasps) I've called my watching humming bird "The Sheriff". He chases away all other hummies he can see, while perched on the high end of a branch every sunset time. According to Robbie's recommendations we should have feeding stations, which are feeders close to each other in the same spot. This way they will have to acomodate to each other and the smaller space. I have my feeders pretty close to each other yet they are not feeding together
Well Robbie...you must be the hummingbird whisperer...I put out by birdbaths with one bubbling and the other with a small spray. They don't use either one...it's shallow bowls, too.
Thank you Robbie that’s very creative! How do I give them the peanut butter do I just put some in the jar or do I water it down some like a liquid using water in the peanut butter?
Hi Robbie, love the pnb jar video 😊 I'm so sad this year, No hummingbirds. We had a bad hurricane last fall and we had to have some dangerous trees cut down. I'm not sure why the hummingbirds didn't come back, but it feels like I'm starting over from the progress I made over the last year. Maybe more will come for the fall migration this year, I can only hope 😊
Try adding in some bushes and flowering plants, yes it was the missing trees that kept them away. This happened to a friend of mine when he removed his trees all the hummingbirds left.
Thank you Robbie so much for responding 💓 I do have some trees on my property still, but they are young ones ( planted in the last few years) and I did take your tips from all your videos to plant lots of flowers. I have four o clocks😊 zinnias and cosmos. I plan on planting a couple more trees this fall. Thanks again 😎 hugs to you and Gary.
how many months Robbie do you have humming birds? Here in canada, I had lots then they went to have their babies and I was expecting them back. I've had a few but not many. Our province is burning up and I'm worried about their wearabouts.
Here we have hummingbirds all year round, but more come in September and stay until early spring. With your fires it is possible that they are moving to different areas. Hope everything will be OK there take care.
In this video I showed the ant moat I make, and for wasps, make the holes small so they can not reach the nectar. Also this ant moat works GREAT, check out this video I did: ua-cam.com/video/WdobcI8uRfQ/v-deo.html
Robbie, I am in Temecula wine country and have been having trouble with avian pox in my hummingbirds for years. I have taken the feeders down for months at a time, but when I put them back up, I get more hummingbirds with avian pox. It is so slow-acting that the birds can hang around for a long time. Do I just need to give up on feeders? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
@A critical time to philosophize I have photographed them and can see their tumors on their beaks. One bird had eye problems as well. The problem is that cleaning the feeder every day does not prevent transmission of the virus between cleanings. The disease is fatal.
Avian Pox is somewhat rare in hummers, that is not saying they can not contract it. Sometimes what looks like that could be fungi, bacteria or other causes even injuries, without a full necropsy, you will not know for sure. Make sure to clean your feeders daily. If birds can find food and water, and stay strong, birds can live through it, it is the secondary infections that do them in. Species most commonly reported include corvids, crows, doves, house finches and ravens, and a variety of songbirds.
Robbie: you touch on freezing veggies from ur garden in several videos. It would be nice if you could make one vid specifically on how to freeze surplus veggies from garden. If you have done it, I’d like to know the link. Thanks! I have been searching up and down on what to do with surplus veggies and tried some methods. NONE works for me😟 Your compost in place works for me! Previously I tried so many methods of composting. None worked, at least for me; too much work, too messy, or too smelly.
We have hornets and etc that are a problem around here. Can they access the nectar from these feeders? They’re mean as he!! and I don’t want to encourage them around my doors and windows.
Are the hummingbirds in North Texas just jerks? I have several feeders placed near and far from each other and very rarely will two hummingbirds feed at the same feeder. Most of the time, if one is at a feeder and sees another hummingbird trying to feed from a completely different feeder, it will just chase it away. I feel like they spend more time fighting than eating. 😕
Found it. Thanks. Not sure which one is the right one I remember you saying one color was the best deal. There are a bunch of choices here but some is 6 inches wide x40 yd. Maybe yours was like 54 inch x50?
